I tried to type a message to everyone.. Not sure if I did it right. I was getting serious lag and breaks with phone and no mic on the laptop obviously. Hope you all enjoyed your chat, I should be back for it w/ iPad next time.

Goodnight all.

We got your message, Bridget! :)

I couldn't gargle with it. But it is very good for your throat. I like to put some raw unrefined honey at the bottom of my spoon. Then I fill the spoon up the rest of the way with the apple cider vinegar. (Braggs) I take two spoons full of that. Now that I made the powerful stuff that I posted a recipe from Rosemary Gladstar, I take that. That stuff will open you up....and put you on the mend a little quicker. Your breath might be pretty bad though...lol.

Thanks. They both tested positive.. And my throat hurts.. I'm going to try to tough it out, hopefully build my immunity to it back up. I had my first bout of strep (ever) back in September. Anyone ever gargled apple cider vinegar? I did, it's not pleasant but it does help.

Just got back from taking Kade to OKC, should have taken about 2 hours round trip, but there was construction w/ lanes closed both ways. 4 hours later, I'm home.

Not sure i will be able to participate tonight. Will try via phone but if it's crappy I'll step out.

salt water gargles with very warm/hot water is good, like Robin said. Remember GARLIC is NATURE'S antibiotic. Yes, it is possible to get over it without prescription meds. But you must be careful, and watchful. Strep can cause other problems. You could get Scarlet Fever from it. My nephew got that from strep throat. You can also get arthritis from it. That happened to my son. Luckily it went away in a few weeks. He was in a lot of pain, and couldn't walk without help. I had never heard of this before. I thought the doctor was crazy when she told me that. That same strep going around made another child in my son's class very ill. I think it had to do with her liver. What it was I cannot remember for sure. I'm not trying to scare you. I just want you to be aware of it, in case strange symptoms develop. This is quite rare I am sure. Garlic and onion, two of the ingredients in that recipe I posted are very good to take. Here it is again...

Fire Cider Cold and Flu Remedy, by Rosemary Gladstar
This recipe is a hot, circulatory, immune enhancing formula. It is similar to the 4 Thieves Vinegar.
One quart mason jar
Horseradish root (great for bad sinus infections) Wrap it in plastic wrap to keep fresh. It is a good digestive aid. It has a definite warming effect.
Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar with mother
garlic (poor man's antibiotic)
onion (one of best poultices for ear infection, sauteed over skillet, and when warm, wrap them up in a cloth, and put OVER the ears) You can slice onion and put a little honey, just to cover it to make a good cheap cough syrup. Keep warm until infused.
ginger-you can cultivate it in pots. Lay them on top of soil, and put a very light layer of soil on the rhizome. Keep it moist. They grow in a tropical environment. They go dormant in the winter.
Cayenne powder (no more than ¼ teaspoon) I would say half of that to start, you can always add more later.
Organic honey
For this recipe she uses equal parts of garlic, onion, and horseradish. Then she uses ½ part of ginger.
Chop these ingredients up, and put them in a mason jar. The jar is almost completely full, say 75-80% full) Cover ingredients with Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. Then after the vinegar is added, she adds no more than ¼ tsp of cayenne powder. Let it sit for say 4-6 weeks to be strong enough. (of course you can go longer) She recommends straining it after that.
After you strain it, add organic honey to taste. So what you have is a hot, pungent, fire, with a sweet mix. This will definitely open your sinus cavities up! This will speed up your digestive system, especially if it is sluggish as you get older. This is not a laxative like effect at all. If you tend to have a cold system, this will benefit you.
She is basically making a tincture. (You could use alcohol instead. But she wants this recipe to be more of a food product, that has medicinal value.) You could use it for a salad dressing, or take little shot glasses of it. Take it when you are starting to feel a little sick.

Bridget, even taking some of this in the recipe is better than none of it. Just use what you have, if you want to. If not, that is totally up to you of course. Another thing I like to take is elderberry tincture. I took both last fall, when I was really sick. If I hadn't done that, I feel quite sure I would have been at the doctor's office, and coming out with a bag full of high dollar prescriptions. I am not a doctor, or a nurse. I am just telling you what works for me. I think natural ingredients, if they work, are better. I do take regular prescriptions, so I am not against man made meds at all. :)

Robin our Doc gives us antibiotics, and I have an extra bag of them for myself.. But I really don't want to become a slave to strep/dr/antibiotics.. Did a little reading online today and most people can kick it on their own given time. Since I'm off until Monday, might as well give it a try.

I did a test call w/ Sam just a few minutes ago. It works but video is delayed. At least I can listen in if nothing else. DH doesn't go on trips very often so I'll normally be there (here?) for them.

Raw unrefined honey has antibiotic properties too. It can be used for a variety of ailments. But it soothes you throat too. It tastes wonderful. That apple cider vinegar is pretty rank. It can make you choke. I like the honey to sweeten it up a little. I prefer this to salt water gargles. But if things are bad enough, I DO BOTH. I put this honey in my hot tea, and have that every evening. Usually I take green tea, but sometimes it is another kind. There are several that I like. In the morning I want my coffee though. :)

Kelly I read good things about raw honey also, but once again I live in the middle of nowhere so will have to make a trip for some. There is a single person farmers market in town in the morning. Will check there.

Good Morning Army. Usual suspects in the hangout, sorry I couldn't make it but when this old trucker feels sleep calling, it's bedtime.
Really sorry to hear about the boys and strep, Bridget. I've has that like five times, it only gets worse. 104* fever is no fun, trust me.
Hula's solution is to feed teenage boys whiskey until they feel better. Maybe we should get them a 'Working Girl' while we're at it ?
(ok, I better stop right there....)

Have a Safe and Blessed Saturday :)

Kelly I did drink hot tea with ACV and regular honey last night. Also did ACV and water gargle 2 times yesterday, the second time right before bed. It's better! :) DH just text tho, he woke with sore throat and fever at 3am.

Here's an Idea - Let's do a Hangout ..... NOW !
Just Imagine... Robin without Coffee, Dusty with 'bed hair', Samuel before he gets dressed....

OK, so maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all...

Robin without coffee first thing in the morning is not a good thing.... not a good thing At All.

Good After midnight, Army!
Staying up late catching up with you guys got me in trouble last night, but it looks like it'll be a little earlier tonight if I can get this darn post typed.

Bridget, glad to hear the boys and you are on the mend - hope DH is not far behind in the mending as well.

Sorry to have missed the Hangout, but we had fun making bread this morning. One batch of Mama Chak's butter bun recipe and one of my (er, Dusty's) white bread recipe. Maybe we'll do a yeasty beasty loaf or two before they go back home on Thursday.

The kids had planned to take Mama out to lunch, but the bread didn't get done early enough which put her mood off in the afternoon. (she had originally only planned to do one recipe, hers) So she went off in a huff with her cousin to the light shopping she had planned to do while out to lunch with the kids.

Gonna have to try to make it up to her somehow tomorrow.

Night army... :closedeyes:zzzZZZ

The Myrtle Plantation looks wonderful!!! I saw the night tours were only Fri and Sat night and we need a reservation. We could do Friday night? Then there were day hours from 10-5. Not sure I have enough time for it. Wish it was closer. I'm looking forward to the trip!
There's usually room on the tours except around halloween , also people staying in the rooms will usually let you in , but there's as much going on outside the house as in , it's a beautiful place and extremely haunted .
