Today I heard from the doc with my biopsy result. Both bad news and good. It is melanoma, but it's in situ. Skin level only. Scary, but I was treated early enough. Recovery is near 100% when it's removed this early. I need a second surgery for full removal. Going for pre-op consult Wed. morning. Don't know how soon after for the surgery.

All is well, but I did get a jolt of gratitude for life and its many blessings. Also, sunscreen for me from now on. As a geek, I'm not in the sun much anymore. But when I am... slathering it on. Good thing I got that wide brimmed hat a while back. :)
Yes, that is good and bad news. Just glad it is treatable. I suspect you'll need regular visits to the doctor going forward, huh?

I can so totally relate. The Bad news knocks you for a loop then the 'let's get this thing off/out of me' attitude kicks in. Then the good news, they can get it and get it all.

Positive attitude goes a long way. {{{{{ Lori }}}}}

That's the plan. He's a good doctor with a kind spirit, so I won't mind making my little contribution to his vacation home. ;)

Thanks everyone for your well-wishes! :wub:

Robin, I know you went through something more difficult. As always, you encourage and inspire me. {{{{ Robin }}}}

This intruder was bigger than a pencil eraser and a small tumor had formed. I knew to watch it and I learned that another factor is having a mole that differs from any other moles you have. Common sense there but I didn't know it was significant in deciding whether to biopsy.

I was smart, but also lucky! The surgeon I'm seeing is a specialist in advanced methods of skin cancer removal. Then he became a plastic surgeon too. Should be a pretty scar!

I was backing out of my driveway not long ago with my 23 year old Dodge. I was lazy and cut it too quick and scraped up against the mail box and put a scratch on the side. Looks like all the other scratches. :)

Lori, I am sure you know this, but I will say it anyway. (just in case) Changes in moles, especially to black, reddish, or texture...are danger signs. The one on my back was reddish. I have no idea how long it was on there. The one on the back of my arm turned black. The PA looked my whole body over for more problem moles, that I might've missed. (talk about embarrassing) I had moles that went from smooth to having a slightly different color, with a sandpaper feel. That is what I meant by texture. I had them removed over time. 3 were bad, 2 were thought to be cancer. But thank goodness the biopsy said it wasn't.

Follow your gut instinct. You know your moles better than anyone. I shouldn't have asked the PA about the mole. She let me down. But from now on, I will just go to the dermatologist, if I feel uneasy about one. It just isn't worth the risk. The dermatologist put the fear into me. I reminded them about the pencil eraser size, but they said that no longer applies. I am writing this for you, but also for the benefit of everyone here. Learn from my mistake, and don't wait months before you have it checked out.

Hubby had melanoma on his ear. They had to take a nice bit of his ear. The guy that did the surgery was very good. If you look at his ear, you can see that it is different but not so much that it draws attention.

Yeah, we move to Florida and we both get cancer. Thank God that both were able to be removed without having to go through chemo or radiation. :nun:

It is still a shock to the system when you hear that C word.

I'm going to expand on this a bit also. Rick's ear did not have any moles. It was a discoloration that seemed to spread. Not quite a freckle but definitely a grayish type color.

If you see ANYTHING out of the 'ordinary', get it checked.

Good info Kelly! This one had stopped growing, but it was the color change that finally made me go sooner rather than later. I was thinking a thorough and thoroughly embarrassing full body mole check is probably in my future.

I don't know, Robin, but it seems like PA doesn't like for any of us to leave. :) I must write Stephen King and give him this new storyline idea. (The C-word is not funny at all, but it helps to find ways to laugh.)

Since moving west, I've had multiple mini-lectures about how much more careful light-eyed people have to be in the sun out here. In the 70's we put baby oil on to tan faster. Not our finest idea. :facepalm:

    You'll like the boost feature on the Radius.
    My normal build is just over the limit of what a P3 can put out , and 26g is easier to feed into the deck on a Rose than thinner wire , I figger if I throw enough watts at it , it'll eliminate lag , I haven't used anything with a boost feature yet but I expect it'll come in handy . I like the form factor of the Radius too , wish they made one in Colt royal blue . Come to think of it , I have yet to see a mod with a good blueing job on it , a REO would look good in gunmetal blue too .

    dropped my IPV4 at the door when I got home... the mirrored cover popped off and it went into auto fire... pulled the batteries just in case... got the button unstuck and while I had the cover off I broke out the used up scotchbrite pad from the sink and "polished" off the mirror finish, reinstalled the cover... talk about a serious difference in screen visability... just wow.. :)

    good evening army.

    wow, that backlog... I'm in for a busy week, my gf had ear-surgery yesterday (second look, she had a more complicated one last year where she got a titanium prosthesis installed in her inner ear).
    So on and off to the hospital
    Plus work
    Plus that state-wide holiday on Thursday (so gotta get all work done before that, no one's gonna bother to work on Friday)

    otherwise, happily vaping HA on my Greek piece of art atm, surgery went fine, and there's a holiday and good weather coming up.

    hope yall doin fine.

    Mama's feeling better today and got good news from the Dr. while she took the stitches out. Dr. said she should start putting weight on that leg and stepping out slowly. She should be back to what normal was to her (before the fall) in about three to six months.

    glad to hear things slowly crawl back to normal out East...

    and so happy you caught this thing in time out there in the West :)

    Good luck with the treatment, surgery is never fun. But better sooner than later! :)
