In the dog house again... ...and I didn't do anything wrong! I just fell asleep in the parking lot of the market for about 10 minutes.

I was supposed to take the maid to the market and pay some bills at 7/11 then get some stuff at the market. I drop the maid off and told her she had to find her own way home unless she wanted to wait for me to pay the bills and do my shopping. To which she grudgingly agreed. (It's a 5 minute walk home from the market.)

I go pay the bills and drive back to the market and see the maid making her way back to the house with a couple of small plastic bags of groceries. So I'm thinking I made the right decision. I park the car and go over the list of things to buy and then ........................................................................

I'm out for about 5-10 minutes. I get home and Mama's all bent out of shape because I didn't come home with the maid. (sigh) Come to find out the maid is afraid to go outside alone because she thinks she'll get picked up by the authorities (she does have the proper paperwork, but is still scared someone will stop her for questioning). Silly girl.:facepalm::facepalm:
Mama is back to normal. :)

Good morning all! Another weekend! And despite what the weather man said - sunny and warm :)

How lovely! :D

Seriously we have a gathering of geeks here coming from the various angles of geekdom. Lots of good advice to benefit from.

I just write the code that makes computers do stuff. I can work under their hoods. I've taught how to use them and done tech support. One thing I know is that no one knows everything. It's too big a topic. Team effort all the way.

See? I'm a benevolent queen. ;)

I sure would. The one thing that's held Linux back from wider adoption is that installing it is tricky for the average user. It's much much better than in the past. I'd love to see them keep growing and making it easier.

Your code can be light years ahead of anyone else's. Better stability, performance and security. But if install and update isn't completely automatic, only geeks will love it and use it. #1 rule of GUI (Graphical User Interface) -> Don't Make Me Think. :)

I've gotten really tired of the cycle of buying/building faster, better hardware only to have the same slow performance thanks to bloated, inefficient software.

I entirely agree with our "benevolent queen" here :)

I've been playing with and programming these puters since 92, been on the Internet since 94, and had my first Linux distribution in 96 (Kernel. 2.0.something; ah, the old days)

As Lori I'm mainly at work under the hood nowadays.
I've been exclusively on MacOS for the last 10 years or so with my Linux skills mostly at work on the server side.
I've just recently, since growing weary of Apple's "Get our newest thing now" policy, bought some Chrome devices (a chromebook and a chromebox).
These little things work like a charm and are darn cheap. You have to sell your soul to Google, however.
Apart from that they are the perfect Linux machines for the average Joe as you don't have to do or know anything about Linux, google takes care of everything staying up-to-date and safe.
For the more tech-savvy using a gimmick called crouton they can be transformed into an all-normal, non cloud-based Linux machine.

I think I'm just schizo , I'm a beer drinkin , Harley ridin , rattlesnake catchin , python wrasslin , gun totin southerner that can build a computer and cook , besides you're forgetting BK , he can build rockets, lasers , Tesla coils , computers and barns not to mention beer drinkin and gun totin too . And Chak's another beer drinkin , gun totin computer builder too ! :)

...that being said count me in on the schizo and beer-loving part here as well.
I've been running a bar for a couple of years and had my time off the cyberworldz.
And I've built a Tesla coil with a colleague of mine a couple of years back :D

Isn't it "not breezy" to say one is breezy? :D

You'll have to reboot your computer with the disk in the drive , it should boot into Linux and there will be an install icon once it finishes loading .
I would suggest installing it alongside of Windows first and get comfortable with Linux then do a full install of Linux and erase Windows , or keep both and disable Networking on Windows entirely and use Linux for all your online stuff and use Windows just for games , as long as you have enough free hard drive space you should have no problem running both , if you choose to install Linux alongside of Windows you'll have a choice of which OS you wanna run when you boot up . I ran both for about a day and said the hell with Windows and reinstalled Linux as the only OS , haven't looked back since . BTW , Linux takes up a lot less memory and hard drive space than Windows does , That's what LA was talking about in reference to bloated software , Windows is overinflated at best .
Thanks again

lotza snippin

kewl on the coil.... my Icon is one I built, stands 9' tall 12" X 60"secondary with a 38KV primary... the streamer in the icon pic ( lower middle) is hitting the ground... including the arc of the streamer that makes it about 12' long...
for scale reference, the grey thing holding the toroid is a 5 gallon bucket :)

trying to find a pic of our tc (tesla coil, not temp control) experiments. couldn't find 'em yet - it's been too long ago to remember the specs (must've been 2008-2009ish).

but we had a lot of fun with it. I think the friend I built it with still has it as decoration (and maybe to scare off crooks) in his living room :) (so I guess ours was more like 6ft in height)

So what did they throw off the bridge? I know some of y'all were young when that song came out. I used to listen to it when I was a kid. I don't care for country, but always loved that song. Yesterday was June 3rd, so the song is quite appropriate. Funny, it doesn't seem outdated at all. Her eyelashes in the video were a big giveaway though. For those who don't know, the song came out in 1967.

Who was that actor that played Billie Joe. It was Robby something or other I think.

Robby Benson. I thought the movie paled in comparison to the song. The song was haunting, and stuck with you. The movie was just okay, and a disappointment to me.
Robbie Benson, that's right. I didn't care about the movie one way or another.

Got some vape mail today , coupla juices from Net.com . Glazed Raspberry amd RY4 .1 , must be me but I'm not getting the raspberry from this one either , just a strong semi sweet vanilla pipe tobacco , it's good but not what I was expecting . The RY4 however is excellent , rich , sweet caramel and vanilla and tobacco , Clay says he has three tobacco's in it and they definitely make their presence known without overpowering the other notes on it , hit's my sweet tooth perfectly , delicious stuff .

Microsoft's Deceptive Tactics Push Customers to Mac, Linux

Wow. Now this added some stuff I had not heard before.

I have been vaping the same stuff, nothing new in ages. Luckily I bought a fairly large stock in the past. I have some in the freezer that needs to come out soon. I am happy with my HHV products, and that is almost the only thing I use. Now and then I vape something else. I think the only other thing is Halo Turkish Tobacco, or 2-3 flavors from Yaeliq. The lineup is heavily in favor of the HHV tobacco, mostly net flavors.
