Yippee! The people spoke. All these globalization nuts have been sent a message.WE DID IT! WE'RE OUT!!! Happy Dance, Happy Dance. And that's all I'll say as I don't wish to offend.
Hi JW!You wouldn't be from the UK would you?
Thanks Hula. The kennel is always clean. LOL Daughter's coming over may have been part of the reason, but I believe boredom played a bigger role.Whoohoo! That's great news Chakster! Sounds like your daughter coming over has lifted Momma a little from her gloomies and physical distress? Sure hope so! Better clean your kennel again.....just in case that rolling pin starts to spin about your head!
Oh, that hasn't diminished at all, even with the busted leg... LOLShe's not all the way back until she starts smacking you around.![]()

Season 6 finalie is Sunday night. One if my top 3 shows ever. Enjoy.Well, we started in on the Game of Thrones series now. Should keep me occupied for a while. Need to get some new shows to watch. What season are they on now? Last I remember it was 5...
Wasn't Greece's problems After joining the EU?
I don't know whether I dislike media or politicians more. At this point they are running neck in neck.
Congrats on the wedding!Hope she's the ONE for you.Howdy army,
sorry for being so scarce. Just read up quickly and yeah, you're mostly right. EU is falling apart, what happened in the UK was an ugly accident, and one that's hard to watch, too.
I can only really recommend J Oliver's bit Lori suggested earlier. No better way to sum it up.
Thing is, yeah, people can travel freely across the EU, just like they can in the US. The basic idea behind the EU was to eventually get to something like the US. We made it pretty far, have (mostly) a single currency, have (or had) a united economic area (Schengen) where people and goods can travel freely.
But then after achieving all of that, evolving of the Union stopped; talks about a constitution (and a president, and united foreign policy, one army, not twenty-something armies) failed, instead the EU extended to the east. There was the historic opportunity and those countries (basically everything east of Germany: Poland, Czech Republic, Slovak Rep, Romania, Bulgaria,...) were rushed into the EU very soon after Russia lost grip and they of course welcomed it. Western economics, financial aids to bring them up to speed. All good, BUT - they had (understandable just coming of that Eastern block horror) no interest whatsoever in becoming part of something that would eventually HAVE TO BE like the US (having a currency and economic area without a constitution and some sort of _elected_ federal gov't is bound to fail).
I.e. none of them wanted to give up sovereignty, become part of something bigger.
And that's when trouble started, and then there's the UK. A country that has been member for a long time but have always acted like those newly joined states. Economy and benefits yay, integration and union nay. And they always got their way, their special bit. They were paying far less than they had to given their Economic strength. They were always special, but as it seems now, not special enough (you know, there's that one "special" kid in every class...)
So - just that you understand what's going on. And that it's something that tried to be like your beautiful union that is starting to break apart here.
And it's given away too easily, it's something that was founded after the ruins of WWII where we (the continent) tried to find a way that something like that would never happen again. Becoming one, forgetting dreadful national borders ands little-minded policies seemed like a good idea then and it does so to me now!
And all of that thrown away "just" because of that populist fear from immigration. Asylum seekers have never been able to travel freely in the EU. They have however had the right to go where they want once they were granted to live and work here. Afaik that's exactly what the US does and that didn't harm the UK at all.
We, Germany, are taking the most part of the Syrian and Arab asylum seekers and NO other state in the EU is helping us here. Nobody is taking any share, great union, thanks! We do an excellent job keeping our house clean, have (luckily) not had a major terror attack, but still, "Germany is a mess and crime ridden" is what I hear. It's bull!! (forgive my English).
Idiots, yes Muslims, but mostly idiots, harrassed German women on new years. But they were no refugess or asylum seekers, they were mostly people living here illegally (and yes, that's a problem, but are we to buld a wall between Greece and Turkey now? Or around Germany again? I don't think so). French, Belgian terror attacks: all natives, born and raised in EU. (Orlando killer, born an raised in the US).
So why the hell people are scared from poor people who have lost everything but their lives, is beyond me.
And what the heck the UK had to fear, I don't know.
...
Actually - just wanted to say "hi" and that I don't have time to participate in that current discussion, because
I wanted to break the news that
I GOT MARRIED YESTERDAY
Hence, not too much time to hang around here atm. There's gonna be a party tomorrow and probably a big mess on Sunday
Hence, no time to take part in discussion, so ignore the above. Just needed some place to vent![]()
