Good Morning and happy August 1st!!

My work shift changed today from 7am start to a 6am start (so i can overlap with night shift and try to build a more cohesive unit). I got anxious about my alarm not being set correctly so i just decided to wake up at 330. My oldest still hasn't gone to bed so i got to chat with her a bit. I'm guessing by this afternoon i'm gonna be sleepy

So I am getting unloaded in Troutman NC (about 30 miles north of Charlotte). This particular store is historically slow. As in, Receiving starts at 7:00, but they don't actually do anything until almost 8:00.
So I am finally getting started, and the unloader taps on my driver's door.
"You have to turn your engine off and get out of the truck. New rules."
"Do they have a new rule to open the gate at 7:00 ?" I asked.
Now he doesn't want to speak to me anymore. I guess I will get called in for that....

Thanks so much @LAwaters--I'll watch and try the bike adjustments tonight. As to the investments, I chose on my own..scary.. I know! PM me if you have any advice for a newbie.
Are you staying with mutual funds?

I'm sure it isn't the first time you will be called in. :)

Good morning Army.

Be careful when someone taps on your door in NC. It might be the General, and he might think you're the mailman delivering HHV juice. :D

Good morning.

Slept in today. I haven't done that in a long time. The system called Emily left behind lower humidity and some cooler temps.
Cooler and (better yet) much less humidity here. Loving it!

Maybe DH can help you with the adjustments. :)

^^This!

In the past, employers had advisors managing their plans and employees were given a list of funds to choose from. So the choice of advisors has been made.

As long as you don't invest in a brand new, high risk mutual fund, you'll generally be in good shape.

The only ones who benefit from frequently shifting to different funds are the advisors who get nice commissions for new investments. So the other good advice is to be patient.

Mutual funds have a large degree of diversity built into them. Hard to achieve through buying individual stocks. But mutual funds alone are not completely diversified either. Each fund usually concentrates on a particular strategy (low to high risk, small to large caps, industries, etc). At Bridge's age, she can get away with more risk than someone who is about ready to retire. I tend to like well established funds...they have a nice history of success.

All true. Then there's the factor of a person's risk tolerance level - whatever their age. If being in a higher risk investment is going to keep you awake at night, stick to the well established funds IMHO.

Most of us are too caught up in the emotion of it. We get scared and yank our money. It's the old adage: Buy low - sell high. When markets drop, smart investors get in there and pick up shares at a reduced cost. It takes a lot of patience and a certain level of fearlessness.

I worked for that firm in '87 - when the markets tanked. Clients were going crazy and I was cursed at like it was my fault! I was only the assistant!

When the markets recovered a lot of people breathed a sigh of relief and yanked their money rather than go through that again.

As wild a ride as tech is, it still suits me better than being an investment advisor. ;)

Hope your day is going well! I like to picture the long nap I'm gonna reward myself with on days like that. Even if I don't take one - the thought of it gets me through.
