When I saw the latest I thought of you. Do you have hurricane shutters? How do you prepare?

Praying for everyone on the east coast right now. It can really land anywhere or nowhere. Even though they are better at predicting them, it's still a crap shoot.
It's definitely a crap shoot at this point. We are a long ways away from this thing hitting the US. Anything can happen in that amount of time. Precautions are wise. Panicking and worrying is not. No one here has hurricane shutters. Wind damage is usually not a problem here as it pertains to hurricanes. However, that is not always true. Fran in 1996 and Hazel in 1954 are two examples of hurricane winds devastating homes and structures here in the Raleigh-Durham area. Generally damage from hurricanes here is in the form of flooding. The only way wind damage from canes is an issue is when the cane is travelling quickly. They don't peter out over land as fast then we are susceptible to major wind damage. And the worst ones are those that hit SC and travel north up to us. Flood damage is another story altogether and the examples are endless. This cane is moving fast so I don't expect it to create major flooding for any state. Local, yes. But not widespread.

Opinionated, I am so glad that you did not procrastinate on this thing. I wish you could've had an x-ray, but I understand. Were you sick before this, maybe a cold or allergy? The reason I ask is that I wonder if it was caused from a viral or bacterial issue. (not that it would tell you for sure)

Back when we got walking pneumonia here, my kids already had a breathing machine. The insurance company paid for most of it, but that was ages ago. I think the kids caught it at school, and then I got it. My daughter caught a terrible virus, that I nicknamed the Black Death when she was in kindergarten. She was very ill with that. It was the first time I was actually very scared. I even talked with a doctor in ER who was the on call pediatrician. He said not to bring her in. Her fever was high, and I was afraid she was getting dehydrated. She was sick for a good number of days. My son never caught it.
Well I ended up getting that virus from her after she was well, and that is when I got full blown pneumonia. I was in intensive care. My parents were watching the kids for me, and taking them to school. Then my daughter got bronchitis, and my dad brought her to the same hospital I was in. He was nervous as a cat. Two youngsters wanting their mama, and there he was with a sick child on top of it. That is why I say my son has an incredible immune system. My daughter caught that swine flu several years ago. I got it the next day after she started having symptoms. Once again, my son never got it.

So Opinionated, lots of rest is good. Lots of fluids will help thin the mucous, so you can cough. If your fever starts spiking, call your doctor and don't put it off. Mine was 105, and I couldn't bring it down, even with a cool shower. That is when I called my doctor, and they said get to the ER. My blood pressure was low. I didn't have a bp machine back then. Funny I don't remember having a hard time breathing. I felt congested though. That was one of the worst times I've ever been sick. I was literally sick as a dog. I'm sure you've heard that term before. You don't know how relieved I am that you got it checked out. Sounds like it is a good thing you got on it quickly.
Oh, don't wait until you fever gets to 105 before you call your doctor. Ask the nurse at what temperature you need to be getting it checked out again. I'm guessing 102-103 deg F. But I'm not a nurse, so I can't say for sure.

The places I've visited in Florida were like that for me. Key West was scenic. I went to a beach near baseball training camps - can't remember the name. Maybe 2 hrs SW of Orlando. Nice beach. I never did get to experience white sandy beaches. The humidity chased me away from the State though.

I believe it was St. Petersburg that had the whitest sand I remember. (I can't remember the Clearwater area sand color) I think the sand on the Gulf side was lighter than the Atlantic side. But this is from what I remember, and that was a very long time ago. I have been to several beaches in the past. I went to Galveston, and heard how nice it was. I wasn't warned about the oil in the sand. This was probably in 1987 or maybe 1988. I got the black stuff on my shoes, and it stained my floor mats in the car. The sand there in no way compared to the white sand of St. Pete during that time frame. I thought the sand was beautiful, but too white. The sun beating down on that white sand was blinding. I never went to Corpus Christi, but I doubt if I ever will now. My parents went there in the early 70's. (they didn't bring us) My mother got the worst sunburn of her life there. When they got there she spent maybe 15-30 minutes collecting sea shells. After that she was miserable. When they got back a few days later, she was still very burned looking.
Virginia Beach sand was not nearly as white as St. Petersburg either. I have been along most of the Atlantic coast in the US. I visited St. Petersburg before Hurricane Elena came through, not afterwards. It was just a few months before that hurricane. I later went to the area of the worst damage from Elena, and the wind was still so strong you could barely stand. I got there right as the worst part of the hurricane was over, but the winds were still quite strong there. That was a Category 3 hurricane I believe.

Awwww. No, sadly, our little GD who we adopted at 4 months old developed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. We had to put her to sleep before she reached 2 years old. :-( That was pretty traumatic, because the vet gave her a sedative first, which was dumb, because that just stopped the heart from working, and I think she died from suffocation before he gave her the final shot. It was horrible. Very sad. But she had a great time before that. Ripping up my wallpaper, ripping my hands, tearing up the whole house, little monkey. Our latest lady is a marmalade cutie called Munchie. :)

Oh no, Hula!! Was that the little Russian Blue you adopted almost right after Durakitty passed? Yee Gods, enough heartbreak already!

How old is Munchie now? You mentioned she was a bit stand-offish. My Buckley is just plain terrified of everything (including thunder), except when he isn't.:p He's definitely a nervous nelly, and I am very concerned about his reaction to the coming hurricane (especially with having house guests here too). Oh well, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

The shutter guys came by this afternoon and put up all the shutters, so I am as "battened down" as I can get. Now it's just a waiting (and praying) game. I do so hope Irma keeps sliding to the east, and bypassses ALL of the East Coast.

Eleanor, turn the tv or play music fairly loud. It will help drown out some of the noise. My son's dog is the only one who doesn't seem to care about bad weather. (IF he is in the house) The rest of them can get panicky, especially with loud thunder and bolts of lightning.

Chemo has been cancelled for tomorrow. I have mixed feelings about that since it was pushed back from last week.

Hopefully I'll be able to get in next week. Of course I wasn't able to get to my phone in time to take the call. Ugh. I will call in the morning to reschedule.

Mixed feelings: glad for another week of normalness. Anxious 'cause we were making such good progress and I definitely don't want to take a step backwards.

The Berserker MTL tank by Vandyvapes sure looks the goods. I might get one to coincide with my HHV order arriving. The 9mg HHV Net liquids I have coming will be perfect in that tank.

David, I've never heard of a dog doing that before! GSD are smart, no doubt. My dog wasn't scared of them until that tree started dropping huge limbs while we were nearby. After that heavy thunder will scare her, and firecrackers etc... She was maybe half grown when I took her to the river for a party. Some people were target shooting with various "toys". My dog didn't blink. So I thought good, I sure don't want her to be terrified of storms. The dog before her was scared of storms, but none of the other dogs we had were. When loud thunder goes off here, my dog wants to get in MY LAP, not the bathtub. I won't let her get in my lap as she weighs about 86 pounds, maybe more. I hope she grows out of that fear, but it isn't likely. The Thundershirt did nothing for her at all, I tried that.

I was just going to ask if you were going in tomorrow. I suspect it isnt a big deal to push it out another week but I would still feel the same way as you if it were me.

Never heard of that one.

Evening..........Speaking of pets and weather. When I was younger I had a German Shepard that would go to the bathroom in the center of the house and lay in the bathtub every time a storm came by.

Delightful.

Oh my! You remembered. Yes, that was my little Durakitty doppelganger. :-( Still, we gave her the best while she was here. Munch is about 2.5 years old, still dives under the sofa for any and all reasons, and she's getting fat. :D, which ginger cats have a tendency to do. Hopefully Buckley will take his lead from his mom. If you're calm, he should be.....Glad to hear you're shuttered now. A day early if I remember correctly. Hooray!

I'm so sorry you went through that. Munchie sounds like a real character. Which is another tendency ginger cats have. ;)

Ya gotta love any excuse to pick up new gear!

I haven't heard of that tank either. I recently got the Wotofo SMM Serpent and loved it enough to grab a second one. With Clapton coils and the airflow wide open it's amazing for flavor, but definitely not MTL! I used to vape MTL, but direct lung hits now. Weird at first, but I'm liking it. Had to drop my nic level because the vape is so dense.

You've had a lot of beach adventures! Never thought of white sand being too blinding, but that makes sense. I've been to many beaches in NJ. Also Maryland, Delaware, Virginia Beach, S Carolina, Florida and Nantucket. I enjoyed the Atlantic, but the Pacific has my heart.

The Berserker is on pre-order at the moment but as far as all Vandyvapes products goes, it won't be long before it is everywhere.

It is a true mouth to lung tank. Like P Busardo says 'it doesn't try to be too many things'. Reviewers are comparing it to the Kayfun 5 but the price will be kinder than the original Kayfun 5.

I've got the Serpent SMM as well. I love that tank. Great flavor, easy to build on and looks as pretty as a peach.

The build I have in it currently is a 0.33 ohm fused clapton and I vape it at 50 watts with 3 mg juice.

Nice! Same build as mine - .32 ohm fused Clapton - but I'm at 40 watts. It's a warm vape! 50 watts would be too warm for me. I dropped to 12 mg from 15 and may go lower. I sure can't chain vape at this level. Are you able to MTL on the SMM Serpent?

Good morning. We have most of the stuff on the back under cover or in the garage.

Going over to the MIL's today to bring in any stuff that needs to go inside.

Sitting back here and waking up with my coffee and listening to the sounds of the neighborhood putting up their hurricane shutters.

We are still going to do it Friday.
