Checking in. I had minimal damage, and NEVER lost power!!!!! (It did flicker off about 20 times yesterday evening):banana::banana:

My sister's place likewise was undamaged. OTOH, my neighborhood was in the 15% of the county that did NOT lose power, so we were very blessed. Terrible flooding in Ft. Pierce and up in Jacksonville; don't know yet if any niece or nephew suffered wind/flood damage.

After 72 hours of being on the "dirty side" of that hurricane, with the howling non-stop winds, I thought I would lose my damn mind or at least my last nerve when it finally stopped this a.m. Soooooooo glad it's over, although life will take a few days to get back to normal. When I looked out my front door this afternoon, my next-door neighbor's young children were gathering and bundling all the downed tree branches, palm fronds and sticks in my yard and driveway!:wub::wub:

Jose is supposed to be a fish storm. (Yeah, and Irma was supposed to skirt the East Coast, keeping us on her "better" side. :sneaky:)

It seems everyone has some personal disaster right now.

This weekend my close cousin was involved in a car crash where the 3 other people were burnt alive inside the car. The police weren't able to save any of the others and just managed to pull my cousin out. It was all over the media and I've had news services contacting me and they put me on the news to thank the police that saved him. The police who tried to save the passengers are being treated with counselling.

I found out about the car accident on the news which was an extremely bizarre and disturbing experience.

My cousin is serious but he is stable and likely to pull through.

I've been watching coverage of hurricane Irma and actually spared a thought for some of you who either live in the hurricanes path or have relatives that do.

The hurricane evidently changed paths a little and hit the other side of Florida. I hope this has not come as a nasty surprise that caught anyone unprepared.

Can't like this. I'm so sorry to hear about this Anthony. Was your cousin badly burnt, or did they haul him out in the nick of time. Sending a prayer his way and to family and friends of all involved.

Glad to hear that all is well Eleanor. I've been through a few in Okinawa (typhoons) and the wind really hypes you up. Can't settle nor sleep while it's going on. BK! Is that due to ions? BK'll know.......

Hello Army. Overnight in Louisa KY again. Not a drop of rain here, yet.
Robin is having a rough year. In four months it'll be 2018, and you can start over ! (I think it's called optimism)
Just thought I'd stop by and say hello.

Hello.
And about time too! Hi Pop!

The media had said he had injuries and burns on his face which was really disturbing but, in fact, he didn't have a single facial injury. The burns were on his power back and are 2nd degree burns. He has broken ribs, broken arm, swelling of the brain and a collapsed lung.

What are the chances? The other three people burnt alive to the horror of people standing around and he hasn't got a single burn on his face.

Two of the victims were brothers who were 31 and 39. I can't even imagine how the mother will be. Words don't come close to describing how she will feel (the father passed away 18 months ago).

Horrifying. The brain swelling sounds the most worriesome, as burns limited to just a small area heal, although are terrible to endure, with the bandage changes. And no-one can imagine the horror for the lady facing 3 of the most traumatic deaths any family member could go through, in just 18 months. My heart breaks for her. Hang tough buddy, and look after yourself too. It's a very bad shock you've just had.

Omg... I'm so so so sorry to hear about that! I will definitely pray for your cousin and of course you and your family as well as the first responders there.

That is just horrible.. but so glad that your cousin is reported to pull through.. always a plus in an otherwise very sad story.

Hello.

1st half of the year was great! 2nd half, not so much. ;)

Getting through it day by day is all ya can do.

Still no power. The sounds of generators around us are starting to really irritate. I prefer the sound of the wind.

Still no power. Hubby is getting VERY grouchy without AC.

I think I will avoid him for a while. Might just check him into a hotel until power is restored.

Not having power sucks, not having it when you need AC is even worse I'm sure.

I really really hope you get it back on soon!

I'm tolerating the no AC. Hubby is miserable.

I found him outside sleeping in a lounger with his ear protectors on. You know those things you wear when working with loud equipment like lawn mowers, leaf blowers... His lounger was facing the direction to catch any breeze that might come his way.

The ear protectors were for keeping out the noise of the generators around here. I'm thinking there are now 4 going around us. Hard to tell exactly as the noise bounces around...

Anthony, that is just horrible about the wreck involving your cousin and the others. I just cannot imagine dealing with that. I am glad your cousin survived. The mom who lost two sons in that, will never be the same. Any mother that loses a child will be devastated, but two at once? Prayers for your family, as well as the others. Heartbreaking stuff.

Eleanor! I am so glad to hear from you and that you didn't even lose power. That is great news.
Robin, I hope y'all get your power back ASAP.
