The difference here is that we mostly have electric heat too. Our systems are not designed for this type of cold. I have been in the cold in the NE during blizzards and very low temps. I hunted out in that weather. But they had boilers and radiators. They also did not lose their power if the wind blew in 20mph wind. We used to lose power maybe once in a year or two. Sometimes we lost it in more years than that. But now, I have lost count how many times from two years ago. But this, is when the temp is killing livestock, and wildlife is freezing to death too. Our normal temp now is 60 during the day, and 41 deg low. Not ever negative temps with a wind chill ten deg below that or more.

Well, that's the thing. Chicago frequently goes a week in a row without seeing above zero temps. It's expected. So the infrastructure was put in place to deal with it. Texas isn't prepared for this stuff. There will be lots of fingerpointing in the next days and weeks about who and how the ball was dropped. But really, this is a lifetime event that no one could have predicted.

Bronze, I spend a year just outside of Springfield. That and Oklahoma is how I learned about cold. Never again, not no way, but at least the infrastructure was up to the weather. My part of New Mexico does get cold, but not like that.
Springfield, IL?

Air Fryer bone in port chops for dinner last night, the "C" in CMD now stands for Chef.

I used the leaf blower to blow the snow off our wooden steps this morning, works like a charm and beats an old guy using a shovel. If I had the General's back pack Tim Taylor super blower I'd do the whole drive.
