A friend of mine got me into vaping and I have been doing it for about a week of vaping and still regular smokes. I understand that it is different and is going to get some use to it but I'm struggling and can use some advice. Let's start with my smoking habit before getting into my issue of finding the right ecig.

1 - 1 1/2 packs a day menthol palm mall 100s for nearly 20 years.

I purchased 2 blu premium 100 starter packs for the wife and I after trying one of their throw away samples. When I received the blu cigs I charged and went to town on them. I'm noticing that it has virtually no throat hit and I'm having to suck like a mad man to get any real smoke. The batteries appear to be working fine but it's not the same. I just ordered some Johnson juice at a higher strength to help with the throat hit but I am dissatisfied with my product. I might try to return them to blu for somewhat of a refund.

My wife says when I smoke a normal cig I flatten the filter and I'm wondering if I should get one that has a thiner mouth piece? Also what brand do I go with. I plan on refilling with juice but there are so many different selections. Would one with the button be a better option?

My thoughts based on reading reviews on this forum are:

Joyce 510 brand not sure what one.
A vapor king
Or ego-t

I feel I made a newbie mistake with the Blu but I'm hopping that when I refil the carts it will be better. My biggest concerns are throat hit and I shouldn't have to suck a golf ball through a garden hose to get smoke from an electric cig, or should I?

Thanks in advance for all your inputs and advice. If you believe a different ecig would be better please inform me.

Hi Battletroll and welcome to ECF. I would probably recommend a Riva. If you're not concerned about looks you may want to think about something along the lines of a Mod
Batt Info when considering a purchase:
on a single coil cartomizer 100 mah= 1 hour vaping before re charge

Hi Battletroll and welcome to ECF! I currently use the Volt by Smokelessimage. It is a KR808 device similar to Blu, but much, much better, in my opinion. You get decent throat hit and lots of vapor. It might be something that helps, or you could also check out Vapor 4 Life - they sell similar kits. Good Luck! :)

Wow! I can't believe u have to hangout in the new members area and rack up a bunch posts, in order to be able to post in the forum that u want. This must be something new??? I must admit that I don't hang out in the forums all that much, but I have been a ECF member for several months. I know back when I joined though, I was able to p.m. back and forth with people and post in threads, and now I am unable.

It took 5 volts for me to get the hit I needed. That whole long/slow draw thing is a PITA to me.

I use a 5 volt box mod (it's a 3x AA box so that'll tell you the size of it) with 2 batteries inside and a 3.0 ohm atomizer. Hits like a cig.

You can build them for about $15.00 if you solder... or buy them pre-assembled for about $25.00 ish bucks and up. Some are vv (variable/adjustable voltage). You'd need batteries and a charger too. I don't spend $200.00 bucks on an e-cig that could be broken or traded out for a new model... but that's me. I'm also broke so I have much better things to spend that cash on.

You can also use the eGo type units with an LR atomizer/carto to "simulate HV vaping" but if your after hit-quality you may just want to go strait to the HV stuff and skip "simulating" anything. The HV stuff lasts longer (LR atties fail quicker as a general rule).

Whistle tips are flat. Can be used (as mentioned above) for atomizers and some cartos.

Thanks for sharing.

Just post about 4 or so more times somewhere (on topic) ... say hi/welcome to some people. Good exercise to your social skills. I like that they prevent spam posts with this requirement.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Since throat hit is important to you (which it is for most of us) then at a minimum, I would suggest you look at the E-Power 510 or the Kgo. These are eGo type models but with better batteries and in the case of the E-Power, MUCH less expensive batteries that last much longer.

But if you really want better throat hit and consistency, then I would suggest a good 5 volt or variable volt model such as the 5 volt GLV2 or the variable wattage Darwin or VV Provari.

5 volt GLV2:

if you want to move directly into the mainstream hardware that most people eventually settle on, try an eGo, KGO, or Riva 510 with 2 or 3 boxes of Boge LR (low resistance) cartos. Variable voltage vaping is also popular, but can be expensive and not that much better than the above hardware. After all, when you move up in voltage, it's much the same as lowering resistance on cartos/atomizers with voltages in the 3.4 to 3.7 range. Yes, there are combos that deliver more vapor and taste, but at a cost and those may take some experimentation.

Even the people who have moved to VV mods usually have an eGo or Riva that they use from time to time, especially when they want something small and compact to stuff in a pocket for a day away from home. The last thing you want to do is move to a small battery design that ties you to a charger. New vapers sometimes want something that resembles a cigarette in proportions, only to find out that the only way to get 5, 6, 10 hours or more from a charge is to use a slightly larger battery that can deliver high current over time. Hence, the eGo/Riva/KGO styles.

I also started with a Blu disposable and really liked it, so proceeded to buy the kit. The kit was terrible in comparison for the amount of vapor and throat hit.

I found it did help if you have to take long, really slow draws; just enough to turn on the LED and no harder.

I ultimately switched to a Volt and sent the Blu back. It was a night and day difference.

Yes many new vapers report problems with the tank. My advice- buy the basic kit and get used to cartos, juice, batteries, etc and then later purchase a tank to add on.

I am also new to this: two weeks. I started out with the 510. I read so much about the ego-t that I got one. I love the battery on the ego-t. Definitely more umph! I am her a horrible time with it leaking. I've ended up using the 510 cart and atty on the ego battery.

Wow a lot of quick and great feedback. So it sounds like I should look at the ego, riva or A 510. I don't want to spend too much but if I have to so be it. Problem now is do I choose with or without a button, with a tank or carts.

If you all could help a little more and provide a direct link to the exact ego, riva, or 510 you are suggesting it would help there are so many to choose from. As far as the looks I could care less it is at best healthier and will be cheeper in the long run.

I got my ego-t from ecigbestsave.com. I have also ordered from myfreedomsmokes.com

Most DEFINITELY get the manual batteries (small button). Warmer vapor, better control and no fear of killing your battery due to liquid leaks like with most auto batteries. Pressing the button becomes second nature very quickly and the better performance just makes it worth it.

I would get the Riva 510, E-Power 510 or the Kgo over the eGo. EGo is only 3.4 volts whereas the others are 3.7 volts.

Pretty much the blu is menat for a light smoker if it even works for them. I would definatly suggest a kgo, riva, or ego to start with most people move to the ego style batteries. Another thing i would do is i would try to move up to about a 24Mg e juice. I used a ego for almost two years. I was happy with it. Eventually you will want to move up to a mod. Even while i was using a ego i was still smoking one analog a day> someone suggested i move to a mod and increase my voltage. I jumped up to a Maxi Roughstack and started using it at 7.4v Since i made the jump i have no longer even thought about a analog.
