They are still in for a surprise... :D

Good luck! Hope they learn to coexist and love each other. :)

Well sadly I will not be giving Peepster a home. In all of the planning and arranging there was never mention of an adoption fee. Although I understand the need for that. Within reason.

A few days ago I get an e-mail from Lucky Labs requesting $350. I feel like they let us get attached and then dropped their bomb shell.
3 weeks before Christmas? There was no mention at all prior to this. Not on their website and not in the application.

$350? Really? I already had to agree to have her fixed so what on earth is the $350 for? Please also note that she is a lab mixed puppy. My AKC registered lab was $450.

I just feel like they are untrustworthy. Any fee should have been mentioned upfront.

I don't know whether to suggest this or not, but there are so many dogs at shelters that need homes, and the adoption fee is much more reasonable.

Suggest away. There are so many innocent creatures just lingering in shelters, waiting for someone to take them home...

Whether fees are reasonable depends on the rescue and what they do. The one I help with spays and neuters all, they also get all their shots, a complete checkup by vet, they even get a teeth cleaning if necessary----- then they go to the groomer before they are shipped. Then they are put on transport....The guys that drive the semi to deliver all the adoptions (central pick up site for many various rescues) are ex-Marines who have been doing this for over 10+ years.

Many rescues also feel that people should pay something, and I agree....the rescues always need food, etc. and the feed bills are very high when you are running a rescue, so are other costs like laundry, and sometimes they do have hired help because it's a big job when you have 40 or so dogs.

But this rescue not saying anything about feees up front, and also seem very high considering the dog has not been fixed or anything either ---
!!!! S o sorry this happened to you!

I went to their website and combed every inch of it. Nowhere do they state that there will be a fee or how much it is. Not even on the adoption form. Only twice on the whole site was there any mention of it...and then it was just in context of asking for even MORE money...IE...."adoption fees do not cover all the expenses so please click here to DONATE"

I call BS and I'm really sorry that this happened to Amraann. :( I had something similar happen to me once with a Collie rescue.....we were SO excited because he was the perfect dog.....when it got to the point of Paypaling the fee and making arrangments to go pick him up they told me..."oh...sorry....the owners changed their mind...they were just trying to teach the kids a lesson about taking care of the dog".........

HI everyone :)

LoriKay, That is awful!

I will probably go to a local pet shelter here. I do understand the need for a fee. But Not one that high when they are not providing the services like Racehorse described.
The friend of a friend who was fostering the puppy supplied all the food at her own expense. The rescue was not riembursing her. Even she new nothing about the fee until I was e-mailed and told her. She felt that they should just wave the fee.
I did try to negotiate with Kathy (the owner) But she would not even e-mail me back. I got no reply from her at all or call like she sid she was going to. I do not know if there is any place to report them to.

Anyways ... Thank you all. At this point I am just telling myself that it wass not meant to be and the puppy that is suppose to be ours will come along when the time is right.

I agree with that 100%.....your dog will find you. :)

true! there are so many waiting :(

as to the fee - $350 is what's being charged at the rescue my dil is fostering for but spaying/neutering and all shots are done immediately after a dog is pulled from a pound. with some of them that provides a surplus of funds but that is used up real quick when others test heartworm-positive or need treatment for parvo :(

Does your friend still have the puppy? Could you ..oh..i dunno..sneak off with it?

Whatever dog you end up getting is going to be a very lucky dog. ((hugs))

Thank you. I kind of thought the same thing.. but not going to happen.

Tiburon, I understand all of that. However it was already agreed that I would cover those costs once I got her.
