What kind of belt hole puncher are you using? The one I have is like a large pair of pliers and has a wheel with 6 different sized punches on it, It works great for a small hole in the tank and I put a piece of masking tape on the flat anvil part and it seems to cut out a little more complete, I use the smallest hole size. What do you use for a stopper??

Looks like this one. I think I got it at Joanne's back when DH and I were losing weight. I use the 2nd smallest hole (much bigger and it doesn't work well. Then I use a rubber earring back (like this) with a metal headpin or something similar stuck through the hole. You can get all that stuff at a craft store.

Funny ya mention that. This 'project' has really taken off with so many valuable suggestions. I thought it be great to condense the actual building inputs into a 'how to' without the 'clutter'. That's not saying any input is without value... but it is quite lengthy with the comments, as opposed to 'da proven steps'.

The thread move, that disappeared for a couple of days, did put me in a slight panic, due to my interest and success. I'd be glad to try and condense the pertinent data, only if no one would feel sighted if I miss a few. This IS too much fun to discourage folk because of the thread's length.

Whatcha ya'll think...?

I'd watch it !! Great idea...

I was in a total panic when I couldn't access this thread. I had just started reading it, was taking notes and BAM...

That's just like mine and works very well. Thanks for the info about the plug. I just tried something new today and it works good, If you look at you condoms off of a 510 atty, one end has a plug inside and the others have a cone. The cone won't work but the plug works great. I used a number 44 drill bit and the fit is good, but with your idea, I used the smallest punch and that works great too. So I just cut off the bottom of the one with the plug, so you end up with just the round flat disk with the plug sticking up and it works and looks great. I put it in the little hole and press with my fingernail and the plug seals good.---This works very well.

I looked the other day at Joannes and all they had were metal ones. :(

Oh, that's a bummer. I've got a bunch. I can send you some if you want. Oh, also try Michaels, if you've got one nearby. They've really gotten into the jewelry stuff lately, and usually have a good selection of jewelery findings.

All I have been able to find is the metal ones also and I have checked every place you have suggested plus some. Bummer.

There is a Michaels not too far away, I'll try them. Thanks.

Well didn't read all the posts but I'll throw up a few random thoughts.

I started with Para's original idea of using a 22mm vial.

22mm .35oz Vials with Cap

And the vinyl grommets that were linked to.

Vinyl Grommet 5/16 Bore Diameter

here is what it looks like.

T1_new_5.jpg

The bottom of the vial is just cut off. In the cap you need to drill the correct size hole and set the grommet into it. Basically the way they are made to be used.

There is one more piece you need to make though, if you want a truly universal and hassle free loading version.

drip_long_7.jpg

That is the shorter one I made, I have a slightly longer one too. It gets shoved in the top cap's grommet. It's an atty tube with the cut off portion (the o-ring end) of a drip tip shoved into the bottom and the top takes any drip tip you want.

T1_top.jpg

Do a dry run and get the top piece to properly mate with the carto, shove into the correct position. It should be obvious how easy it is to re-fill. To fill just add your liquid and screw on the top till you make contact with the top grommet, then flip upside to finish. No pressure problem.

The same grommets work well with the 3/4" OD polycarbonate tubing. Here's another way.

fill_port_-_1.jpg

Again using the separate top assembly which makes both these so versatile. You can use any size carto you want. The Boges are about 35mm long the Smok DCs about 45mm. You can also use slotted Clearomizers, the regular or the XLs.

One tip, if you like slits keep them right at the bottom grommet and run them up at a slight angle. Then if they seem too big (leaky) you can move the grommet up a bit, covering part of it. Same thing with you hole if you are a puncher. The carto in the pic is a Smok 1.7Ω single, they rock and are less temperamental with regards to hole size and seem to last longer and draw a bit better than the DCs.

The nylon thumbscrew cap is from HomeDepot, there is a silicone washer under it like in the first pic, it's from an older CE2, pic 2 uses the carto end cap. Pick ur poison.

Basically combining ideas by Para , Vermonster and yzrmbsg from VF. And me of course. :)

'Taken off' is the right word! Still surprised how many people have made one :) A bit like when the first 'juice box' (as it was called) came out in the moding section; a classic that people still make - and this will be just like that.

The community has been a key driver of the technology and market; that's quite a rare thing.

I made a few of these a couple of days ago and ran into the "rubber taste" thing several people have mentioned. i noticed it only affected 2 out of 3 of my flavors I filled up, so I imagine not everyone will see it. It's likely a chemical reaction to the ingredients in certain flavors. I do have a solution though, albeit not perfect.

I decided to try wrapping the rubber plungers in plastic wrap ensuring no rubber was touching the juice reservoir. So far, no rubber taste. That said, there are a few issues. It's a pain dealing with the wrap so it doesnt bunch up and leave gaps between the tube and plunger and its also ugly. I cant seem to trim the excess completely so I get little bits of plastic wrap around the outer edges and the wrap inside the tank just doesnt look as good.

I think a liquid coating over the rubber would work better. I could try melting the plastic wrap to the plunger, but with a melting point of around 250 degrees for the wrap, that may melt the plunger too. Another thought is liquid vinyl. If I can coat the plunger in that, it should seal in all the rubber.

What are your thoughts? Obviously, the solution needs to be on the cheap or it would nullify the benefit of this mod.

My inital thought is to be careful what you are inhaling.

Yeah, that's obviously another concern. The melting plastic will create fumes, though I'm not sure if they would transfer through to the liquid once it is dried. I think the liquid vinyl would be a better alternative, but I'm not sure how that would stand up to the juice either.

I'm still looking around for other products that would seal the rubber plunger and not be a problem for the juice itself.

I finally made a couple of these and I'm extremely happy with the results. The cartos always have the perfect amount of moisture. I made 1 with a 12 ml and 1 with a 20 ml. I had a problem with the 2nd one I did where I dented it too much while punching the hole which prevented a good seal thus flooding the carto.
