I haven't made enough tanks yet to carry around extras :) I agree that the 3 ml plunger is pretty huge. I would also love something in between, but alas, as everybody has mentioned, that hasn't been found yet :/ Then again, not long ago, we didn't even know about building tanks, so I would say that I'm sure an answer is right around the corner. Somebody will wander in, or go shopping somewhere and find that perfect filler plug and say "Hey, check this out guys!". That's how we found the greatness of the saddle valve to put holes in cartos after all ;)

It's great how things get worked out, isn't it.

Sadly I got sucked into the "let's find a way to punch holes in cartos" rush. I didn't get sucked in at the begining of it though. But I did go through quite a few things before finding the saddle valve. I'm just awaiting the day when somebody copies it's design, making it easier for use with cartos (i.e. quick releases for the part the holds the carto in place instead of the massively long screws, no brass connections for pipes, easier to turn handle) and sells them for $15 a piece ;)

When I was at Hobby Lobby I saw some really cool, really tiny brass tubing. I'm thinking of sinking a fill port in the top cap itself - it'd take a needle to fill and whatever I used to plug the thing would have to sit pretty flush, but I'd rather fill from the top.

Made my first Tank from a 10ml BD syringe. Using a CCV Resurrector on an eGo battery.

I picked up 14 10ml syringes from a Health Care Supply store for $4.50.
Off to make some more.

I also prefer the 3ml one. What do you use to clean up the messy hole after drilling it? I got that far, but I have a very uncool looking hole.

I tried the 1ml plunger and it was a little too difficult to put it in. The 3ml one works perfectly. Im still looking for something in between also

You've just given me and idea that I can't use lol. My weird train of thought runs on many tracks all too often at the same time. I was thinking about what you said, then thinking about a cool brass/steampunk looking tank, then just a normal tank that had a brass insert through the rubber with a screw on cap. But I think something like that would be way too big unless you had a really long drip tip lol. End up rubbing your lips on it every time you inhaled. I don't normally share the paths my trains take, but thought that one was kinda interesting ;)

:D

I was thinking of sealing it with a carto plug ;)

But my hole is beyond a mere fingernail cleaning. LOL I tried a file, but scratched the area around the hole. Fortunately, I'm practicing my holes on some leftover pieces of syringes. Bill, do your holes look clean around the edges? And, boy, that plunger takes some work to get it in there!

i use my finger nail, i haven't found anything better....yet

Sounds like you need to make your hole bigger. I don't go off a particular size drill bit. In fact, I didn't really use one. I just made the hole and then reamed it out with my dremmel router bits (got me a corded knock off dremmel with 80 pieces for $10 at HF) until it looked like it was the right size. Then I made it less oval shaped, and rounded out the other sides, started back on the original sides to fix the new oval shape, then realized it was too big and started over. Was more careful the next time ;)

OK, my turn...

tank-smallplug.jpg

The 1ml syringe ($.25) filler plunger plug is in a 5/16" hole. Note that I put it quite close to the feed holes. I've found that there is no leaking due to the lil' pressure when reinserting the plug in this location, as the feed hole vents that pressure.

ETA: This tank hold 4.5ml, plus the carto volume.
Very nice, I think you did a fantastic job. Whats that funky mouthpiece.

The reason I am chasing the 3ml plunger is to get away from filling with a syringe. Do you think hollow punches like these would work to make a clean hole? 12 HOLLOW PUNCHES LEATHER PUNCH TOOLS | eBay

If so, how would you support the tube while making the hole?

I can think of lots of other uses for a set like this non-mod related.

I would like to know of how to make a cleaner hole in the tank too. Mine has large melted burrs inside the syringe after I drill it. And to clean it up I use a Xacto knife but it scratches the tube up. The belt punch makes a nice clean small hole, but for the 3ml syringe plunger hole, its not big enought.

I use a very sharp drill bit. I like to put tape on the inside of the tank where the hole will be. I remove the tape and hope it takes all the pieces off with it.

Oh my... where to start... I'm LMAO*...

I use TV bottle tips in my bottles (they fit in most vendors 30ml bottles)

Pray tell, whatcha talkin' about? Sounds like a 'marriage' made for 1ml fill ports and bottles!

... not long ago, we didn't even know about building tanks, so I would say that I'm sure an answer is right around the corner.

Totally agree!

I made a saddle strap jig and it's OK. But my warped mind (proof a lil' further down*) wants to come up with a simple semi-idiot proof device. Just soooo many vaping ideas and projects to 'constipate' on another brain fart...

That looks great!

How much joose does that hold?

I also prefer the 3ml one. What do you use to clean up the messy hole after drilling it? *

I use a VERY sharp Xacto narrow triangular blade and it does a clean and great job.

we need a 2ml plunger

OK, your mission is to find such an elusive device. Should you accept this assignment, you are to report your findings to the Mother Ship!

Hoping to receive some 'tip protectors' samples in the near future. We'll see...

But my... *

I truly apologize in advance... but, my sides are aching!

Could we pleeease call it the filler port? Cancel that... filling port.

Very nice, I think you did a fantastic job. Whats that funky mouthpiece.

That is a rubber whistle tip that came with the Mad Vapes eMDCCs. I luv 'em. Looking for the same style that fits WITHIN a 510 carto... not over one as in da pic.

The reason I am chasing the 3ml plunger is to get away from filling with a syringe. Do you think hollow punches like these would work to make a clean hole? 12 HOLLOW PUNCHES LEATHER PUNCH TOOLS | eBay

The main issue is that the sizes probably wouldn't match the required diameter of the filler port. Not sure...

I don't worry if the filler port hole is a touch outta round. That's why I look for flexible plugs.

I would like to know of how to make a cleaner hole in the tank too. Mine has large melted burrs inside the syringe after I drill it. And to clean it up I use a Xacto knife but it scratches the tube up.

See above. I just use the very tip of the narrow blade from the opposite side to clean the shavings and melted plastic. It's very efficient and results in a clean port.

Day-um, this sure is fun... in more ways than one!
