I read some place that the 2 ridge ones work better.

Don't know how they could in that I've had no issues whatsoever. If anything, the 'extra' ridge within the tank should provide even a more secure seal. Also note that the ones linked do not have the thin flimsy plungers.

+1, i've also only used ones with 3 ridges, not sure how they could be any worse other than maybe they're taller inside the tank and give you less volume, that's the only thing I could see different, but they should both work just fine.

I don't know... the Chopper tank I ordered came with a punched carto and it worked fine. Other people use them and I haven't heard any complaints about wicking. I guess it's also possible I just got a batch of weird cartos. I punched an entire 5 pack and 2 worked well, 3 didn't.
Were the 5 pack Go-go carts or standard 510 Boge type carto's??

Do you guys have a problem with the tank sliding up down on the carto? I tried using a 306 carto as the punch and that helps a bit...

Also if you use a three ridge plunger, can you put a washer or maybe even an o-ring around it so that the third ridge doesn't go into the tube?

I need to find a place that will ship to APO, the syringes I have been using cost about 10 cents per, but the plunger is one of the flimsier ones, still works but I'm afraid of putting it in my pocket so I just use it at home, which kinda defeats the purpose since I like to drip at home.

No, I haven't had that issue. My plungers stays in place, even when I drop a setup four feet onto carpet.

I'd go with O-rings. Washers would have to be very skinny in order not to protrude past the tank rim.

If you can't find a supplier who will ship to APOs, have the package sent to me and I'll forward it to ya.

I thought you said YOU punched the Holes in the 5 you bought. So I assume they were the go-go's also?? I am trying to figure out for sure what doesn't work for you.

I bought a Chopper tank that came with 1 punched carto. That is the only punched carto that I have bought. It worked fine. I've bought plain go-go cartos and punched or dremeled slots in them myself. The ones with slots work well consistently, and the punched ones (that *I* punched with the saddle valve) are hit or miss.

I haven't had a problem with the 3rd ridge going into the tube. Do yours do that? When I put the carto into mine they fit so tightly into the tube that have to really force the other two ridges to get them in the barrel.

Thanks folks. I'll look around a lil more locally and if I can't find em I'll order from the links you gave online. The three ridge rubber piece don't bother me too much.. it does a little because that extra ridge makes it thinker from top to bottom and it would take up more space it seems and to me it doesn't look as streamlined - But at 55 cents a pop I could order boat loads of them. Perhaps cut one of the ridges off with a dremel.

Those with good working slots - about how wide is the opening? Mine is about 2mm where can see through (the slot is about 1mm in width). Trying to come up with some guide figures.

+++

The punch pushes a rim (extrusion) into the tube, possibly disturbing the internal environment (squashing filler, creating an air gap along that edge, etc.).

+++

Also, could someone summarise the best way(s) to make the filler hole and stopper. Few sentences.

Any sleeve on the earing back?

1 or 3ml syringes? Which part is the plunger the rubber bit we seal our tanks with ?
The earing back has a round flat side and a cone shape that you use to place in the hole. You will need to put a pin or something in the tiny hole that is thru it or plug it with epoxy or melt it shut so you wont get an air leak . Yes you use the plunger that is the part that you seal the tanks, The the tank will need a bigger hole drilled in the side of the tank for the syringe plunger plug. The 3ml plunger is the one most people use, but smaller ones work great too if you can find them. Hope this is a help to you.

There is alot of posts in this thread. I'm just glad I was here from the beginning. I'm here everyday so I won't miss anything.. I just can't believe how much I love these tanks.
Yes, that's the best advice. I think some of the posters are getting lazy and not reading the threads. LOL
