i have used the "flimsy" ones also with out any problems. even dropping them.
I carried extra ones in my shirt pocket , no leaking. BUT to sell the tanks on my site, I switched to the IDEAL LAB, syringes. They are heavy duty.

BTW I use a #41 drill bit to drill one hole in the cartomizers. So far that works real good. I found out also, the hard way, not to remove the drip tip while the tank is full and not on a battery.
You risk pulling the cartomizer out of the bottom seal and what a mess!

I also found out that if you draw/suck very hard on the drip tip you will get a mouth full of juice.

I had some wicking problems with one that I made (small slot, not quite big enough). I covered the bottom of the carto and sucked on the top, just to get the juice flowing into the filler. After it got started, it wicked fine.

I partially figured out a fill hole. I used a belt hole puncher to make a small hole in the syringe and a rubber earring back with a headpin stuck in the hole (both of which I had for jewelery making). It seals very tight, problem is the hole is really small and I have to fill it with a syringe. :D I guess it's a little easier than pushing the needle through the rubber gasket, but I still have to use the syringe. Back to the drawing board.

Sorry, I tried sizing these pictures smaller, but for some reason they are coming out huge!

ETA Oh, now they are smaller. Whatever...

I do too. How well do those little caps stay in? Where do you get them? And doesn't the hole go all the way through? That might not actually be a bad thing if the holes are tiny and don't leak under normal circumstances... pressure is going to vent somewhere, so it might as well be there. I also wonder if you couldn't put the hole in top stopper and use one of those.

I'm thinking of trying that. A hole thru the rubber with a small nail in it to seal it. It should work

Only tool that's really needed is a pipe cutter. I got one for $11.99 at lowes, but they have cheaper ones that will work. I still conjecture that you could carefully cut it with a razor knife, though. The drill or hammer to punch out the hole could as easily be a rock or a hard-soled shoe. :)

not even I made my first one with a pair of kitchen scissors the kind that cuts through chicken bones I used a network cable crimping tool for the hammering because I couldn't find my hammer.

The caps seem to stay in fine, but I only just got one made yesterday, so hard to say if they will continue to work. I got them at, either Joanne's or Michael's in the jewelry section. Got a bag of 100 or so for a few dollars. The hole does go all the way through the earring back, but I took a head pin (used for making earrings- http://www.artbeads.com/sp-hp20-22.html?cmp=googlebase, stuck it through the hole, and then snipped off the end of the wire. Head pins come in various finishes, gauges and end styles, so you could even get a fancy one if you wanted...

I also wondered if you could put the hole in the rubber seal. I don't know if my belt-hole punch will go through that thickness of rubber. I might try it and see. Unfortunately, my Tractor Supply store is freshly out of 20 ml syringes (wonder why???). LOL.

Oh, and I ordered some grommets. I don't know if they will fit in the syringe barrel yet. Someone above said the 5/8" fit.

My point was, for people that do not have the means to make their own, Bill's tanks look fantastic and at a good price.

Bill, I just want to personally thank you for all of your help here with these syringe mods and a bunch of other stuff, too, even though it may cost you some cash in sales of your tanks. You want what's best for the whole community, and it shows. We appreciate you around here, and you are a valued asset to all of us! I am sure you will still sell plenty of these tanks, maybe a few less because of us, LOL.

BTW, one more thing, how do you get the writing off the syringe? I've tried nail polish remover with acetone and rubbing alcohol. Nada...

I use a drill press.
i'll go out to the shop and check the drill bit.
i'll be right back.

(hell, i'll never sell any of these. they are too easy to make. guess i'll have a sale on 50mm cartomizers)
