Dogs make me feel needed and make me laugh, cats make me feel used but I admire them and horses excite me, give me a challenge and feed my spirit plus they are all a big commitment and take me outside of the needs of my own little .... and put me in service to a higher purpose, you know, something besides me me me. I've always had multiple animals except several years in my 20s when I travelled and people always say they tie you down so much. What would you do if you didn't have to take care of them? Well, I had it down to 2 cats and one horse. It actually didn't last long. I filled it back up to the maximum and sometimes I feel like there is room for one more but I make myself say no. It's just what I'm used to, I can do it, I do it well and somebody has to it, there are a lot of good animals that don't make it for lack of shelter food and care. My mornings are alive, my day has more purpose ( retired) and my property is being used, not just looked at and admired but pooped on, run on played on. It just feels right and every night when every body has been fed and watered and put up it makes my world feel like a better place, safe, shared and cozy good warm feelings ( took me a while to feel good about the horses in Winter but learned more about how they deal with cold and it doesn't get that cold in Sweet Home, Oregon. ) I use rain sheets when it is cold. Pretty easy stuff EXCEPT THE M U D! I hate mud. I try to learn to love it but it's really hard. So now you see why the one thing that my maybe becoming ex boyfriend share being animals is enough for me to fight for that relationship! Who else is going to be happy with extra company making love and sleeping together making room for whoever is brave enough to try and be on the bed all nights? He's puts up with them better than I do in that respect. It's heartwarming. He says, "I can't move right now, the cats and dogs are sleeping". Me I just shove them off and tumble them over. They come right back anyway. But being a long haul Trucker alone on the road for miles and miles he just loves all the attention it gives him and they love there new interesting person. Oh so ..right. Animals are definitely family and less of a head ache than people and provide a real nice love fix but it IS nicer to share them! Hey, I'll do ALL the clean up and care! Bring your own, there is room for more ( a little bit) he he he. It's gonna be a fricken miracle if a guy shows up that approves of my lifestyle!

You manage that herd of animals and a man? Well, I am impressed!

I like cats, they don't like me. I'll be petting the little things, they're all cute and purring and kneading their little paws and all of a sudden, chomp. Sucker bites me. Every time. I'll stick with my dogs, they've never bitten but at least they give some kind of warning! Plus my girl is 120 pounds and scares door-to-door salespeople with her wolfish good looks. :)

Hmmm, when my fish died I threw them in the freezer. I took them out the next time I went fishing. Good bait, no use wasting money on a worm.

Ah, a man who I could probably get along with... :D My freezer has several bags of bait fish in it already- plus I keep a tank of live baitfish when the season gets rolling. :)

What is with all the Canine love here? I think we all know that the Felidae is the family with all the talent!

While I love cats, I have always had some kind of connection with the K-9. Not just homeowner dogs, but trained attack dogs, coyotes, and wolves as well. When I was about 8 or so I took in a stray dog that used to run around my neighborhood. When I finally got him tot he vet turned out he wasn't a dog but a wolf. Best pet I ever had.

So yeah anyone I ever get with must love pets.

But a cat will save you in the case of multiple gator attacks: Cat vs Gator (The ORIGINAL post by Eli) - YouTube

Cats rule, Gators drool. Stupid cold-blooded animals. And don't give me that "they have been around for a gazillion years" nonsense. Of course they have. They live in muddy rivers and swamps, who else would have that crap? It took millions and millions of years of evolution to yield the perfect apex predator, Panthera leo

I think we are way off the OP point now. But then again, I never thought this thread would make it this far....

lol. my grandmother thought I was hopeless when I admitted to her one day, as I watched a man walking his dog down the street, that I was "checking out" the dog.....

I think House Reed would disagree with you, but lions have proven adept at slaying wolves so you do have a point.
