I've been vaping for two months now. My first kit (510 basic) was $50. After receiving and loving it, I ordered more supplies (cartomizers & juice), then when out of that, I ordered more cartomizers (wrong ones accidentally) and a full size e-juice. Now, I'm waiting on a PCC kit (w/extra supplies) and two mega batteries (so I can use the cartomizers that I bought by mistake).

Overall, I'm estimating that I've spent $160 usd, so far. I'm hoping that these supplies should get me started and last me for a good while. My husband is still smoking analogs @ $5 a pack a day. I'm hoping to convert him & save money in the long run.

Does this amount sound about right? Or did you spend more or less while starting to vape?

It doesn't sound like you wasted any money. I spent $60 on kit and $25 on spare atomizers. I don't have any other hardware yet but I have spent additional money on juice. I drip so I don't have cartridge or cartomizer expenses. I've been buying primarily 10ml bottles of juice for trials and I'm starting to zero in on some favorites which I buy in 30ml bottles. I used to spend $6 per day on cigarettes and a 10ml bottle of juice is about that and lasts me much longer than a day so I feel like I can justify a little experimenting and still be ahead money wise.

Good luck with vaping.

Yeah seems about right at least to me, I initally spent about $200 getting started, but I got my starter DSE801 kit, then bought 2 additional attys, 2 bottles of juice, 2 packs of carts on my first order. Then I tried dripping and dont use the carts! (LOL) Second order, I bought some more juices and an extra batttery, then I bought the DSE801HP and love it! So my first DES801 is now my back up and then I bought a few extra HP attys and an extra battery, and some more juices. So far this has lasted me 2 months and I have pleanty of juices left and havent used any of my backup attys or batteries. So $200 for 2 months is great compared to my $200 a month for analogs! Now that Im set for a while, I only see myself really spending $30-40 in juices a month and maybe another atty down the road. So far the savings has been great, and I think can only get better. =)

Unfortunately, my first e-cig kit was purchased at a mall kiosk for $160 (Hey, it was the deluxe version). I then found this forum and realized that I'd overpaid by a factor of 4. No real regrets as it did get me off analogs. I eventually gave that kit to my father in a bid to get him to convert, and moved to a 510. I'm sure I spent well over $300 in the few months, but I do love new gadgets.

It sounds like you got off to a very good start, and you'll definitely be saving money (and your life) in the long run.

It doesn't sound like you spent too much for what you've paid for so far.
But "getting started" is a phrase that can have many meanings.
:)

For example, you can get started on a 510 by getting a no-box kit from Cignot for around $35.
Add to that some juice for around $15 and you are on your way for $50 total.

But then you don't have a PCC, or a passthru, or cartomizers, or a drip tip, or anything else you may come to want.
So if you consider the PCC part of getting started, then yeah, but next week you might consider a passthru also part of getting started

See what I mean.
:)

Once you reach the point of having what you need to get off cigarettes, I would call that having gotten started.

After that you can spend very little money, or a heck of a lot more, depending on a number of factors...
1) Can you be happy being satisfied with what you have?
2) Can you be happy being satisfied not trying new flavors?
3) Are you one of those who will continue to chase the perfect vaping experience?
4) Will you turn this into a hobby?

I spent more money when I "started" than you want to know about.
But I have sold off over $450 worth of equipment I won't ever use again, and given away an awful lot of juice.

However, I haven't spent much more than $20 in a month for vaping supplies for a long time now.

I got hammered on cost getting started. Then I found this place lol.

I got a njoy npro, and started to do pretty good with it. 78 bucks for a starter kit. So a week or so go by and I'm down to 3 or 4 smokes a day from 2 to 3 pad. Then it craps out on me lol. Store doesn't sell atty's just starter kits. So I get another. Then they wanted 20 or 23 bucks for an atty over the phone. After doing this a couple of times, I found green smoke. Well, needless to say lol I wasted another couple hundred bucks with them. Even though it was a bit of a better set up imo, it was waaaay overpriced. Once I found ECF, I knew I was on to something. Like the poster above says, in 09 there wasn't a ton of options. But the ecf crowd got me pointed in the right direction.

Started out with ego and ego passthru battery, bought the kit from LF along with the afore mentioned passthrough, 40 ml of juice, 3 T-atomizers and a 5 pack of empty tanks for a total of 120.00. It all came from Liberty Flights and is working great. I figure my husband and I would go through that much in analogs in a little over a week so it was money well spent.

I saw this thread title and thought, "I don' wanna tell." LOL

I thought I overspent a bit on my first order, but reading a few replys I'm feeling closer to an average. Mine was $192. I was aiming for a sale at Rocky Mountain Vapors. I read and researched for weeks before 'pulling the trigger'. By the time my order was sent I'd missed the sale and the code was invalid. But I was ready and not going to re-do my order. Later I learned the prices I paid were a touch high, but the kit was good quality and I have no regrets.

For my $192 I got:
2/Joyce 510 Starters
2/PPC's
2/spare attys
2 bottles of E-Liquid, 10ml cloves 18mg, 50ml menthol 18mg
and a box of 10 empty carts.

I could've done better, but I could've done SO much worse.

Now I'm ordering new flavors, accessories, starting to order DIY equipment, and I'm still under what we spent monthly on analogs. I can breath easier, taste, smell, I don't reek... the list goes on. Definately a win. :)

I don't have any of my supplies just yet....still IMpatiently waiting for everything to arrive....Luckily I found this site early on - but before I did, a Titan 510 kit had already been ordered for me ($35) that was severely lacking - only one batt, one atty, charger, 10ml juice, 3 empty carts....after spending quite some time on here and talking with people, it was clear backups were necessary for as heavy a smoke as I am...and once I started pricing and shopping, I realized a Riva 510 kit was cheaper (on sale at LF for $33) than just buying bigger batts and more attys. So along w/ the initial Titan kit, I'm also getting a Riva kit (2 batts, 2 attys, 10 carts, charger), a 5pack of Boge LR cartos - $11 (to try out vs. attys/carts), and 45 ml of 3 diff. juices -$28 (2 18mg, 1 24mg).

All in all, I've spent about $110 (shipping included) and from I hear...I've got a pretty darn good initial set-up.

I've already got my eye set on an USB pass-thru considering how much I'm on my beloved laptop - but waiting on that purchase until I get everything and see how it all works out....trying sooooo hard not to get ahead of myself....it's hard w/ all the options and *especially* with all the juices out there....

At any rate, hope this helped a little....since I'm not actually vaping yet - costs are the only thing I'm sure about. :)

Wow, you are doing great. My totals are above dormouse's! When I start, I really go all the way. Hopefully I am now at the point where cartos and batteries are all I NEED. Have everything else necessary and diy liquid supplies to last quite a while. What I want is another story. There is no end to my "starting". Good luck, and hope the hubby comes along for the ride.

I spent $70 initially, for a double kit of the Joye EGO, + a EGO T atty and carts and a few small bottles of juice...
Since my package has arrived I have done a couple more orders for juice in different flavors for about $17-20 each...

So maybe $110-130 total so far, and quite honestly, I think I am set for at least a few weeks now.

I was spending approx $52/wk on smokes... so not that big of a deal to shell out my initial amount. :)

I've spent way more than is reasonable, but I'm a little obsessive. It can honestly be done for $50: a $35 510 starter kit and 30ml juice. You just have to keep an eye on consumables (pretty much everything except chargers), and order replacements and refills when you can so that you never run out of anything.

While I'm making do with $1000 worth of stuff, the people I've giften 510 kits to are making do about as well with $40 worth of stuff. It's all about how comfortable you are with (a) the risk of not having backups and (b) a lack of juice variety.

Greetings,

It sounds to me like you are doing very well in keeping your costs low. I started out with spending a lot, but I have enough supplies to last me a couple years now.

I have spent probably about $1000 or so.

KR808D kit.
Tornado
GGTS back when they were over $200.00.
P10 and P18 from Super T
Batteries, chargers, bottles, etc.
Various flavorings.
Two year supply of unflavored nicotine juice.
Just recently ordered the Provari.

I am still way ahead as I was spending about $50.00 a week on smoking cigs and I have been doing this a year. :vapor:

I am of the > $1500 crowd.... Started Thanksgiving weekend (in '10) and have jumped in big time. I have 5 mods and counting. My starter kits were Smoketip - they had a 2 for one special at that time. It worked for me while I was doing my research! I still don't think I am out of the starting up period - omg. I love gagets I love juices I love sucking on something and inhaling and blowing it out.
