So, I just wanted to mention that I have had opportunity to try one of these out. Did I build it? No. I've been tucking away at this Micro-Gen for about 4 days now and I'm enjoying the h3!! out of it. I definitely intend to build one myself. I haven't run across any other rda with the same characteristics. I find it hard to peg exactly what I like about it. I guess, to me, its like trying to describe your most comfortable suit . . . . . . its easy to say what's bad about an uncomfortable one. Anyway, a great idea, and one worth trying out.

Oh, wait wait, I think I can take a stab at describing it. I think I just figured out what it is. I keep finding that I favor this atomizer over my others, and haven't been able to put my finger on what it is; BUT, I think its the unusual combination of the heavy bass notes that one can get out a Genisis, and the immediate kicking warm vape that one gets from a small dripper. Its a really warm deep vape, but with a lot of intensity. Yeah, maybe that's it.

I think it's the small air chamber... I've been using these in one form or another) for about 6 months now. When I finally broke down a bought a couple of regular size genisis attys I was able to get the vapor but not the flavor. It wasn't until I saw Scott's review of the Doodlebug that I put two & two together.
I also like what you've been saying about the Nextel braided ceramic... I think I'm going to order some and give it a try. I'm thinking that it I can keep it from falling apart, it would be the best wick yet. The fact that it's a hollow sleeve, is perfect...

I was thinking of sending you some; enough to try before you buy. There's a question of it fitting, tho. It is 3mm diameter (without a 1mm brass screw "all up in it"). I was going to try this soon; I think I'll need to make a few modifications for things to all fit. Cut down the neg. post a bit, add an air hole higher up (since my airholeadjustercuff will cover whichever I'm not using).

I got the "not falling apart" bit all figured out with my "vivi nono". I pushed the pos. post equivalent screw up into the nextel and sewed around where the ends would be with an "edge finishing" stitch (the screw so as to not constrict the center of the braid). Then I pulled the dummy screw and cut to length. Holds together very nicely.

I haven't tried Eco-Wool. With the Nextel, right now the issue isn't price so much as availability. Particularly of the heat-treated stuff. (Heat treating yourself isn't outrageous; but the specifications are exacting and the health/ventilation considerations are important, so I strongly prefer buying it ready-to-vape.) I'll send you enough to try a couple/three wicks with.

I was thinking of coiling it with a "Shiva the Destroyer" motif. Then I thought, "nah, I'll do a bipolar hexilinear updraft downbuild". Then I just put a normal coil in there. 29g Kanthal, ~1Ω I'm guessing. Hits about the same as your .9-1Ω build did. Although I think (not sure yet) the nextel does something with the heat (hides it up it's skirt, maybe). It seems to be running one iota cooler. I'll go chain vape and let you know.

ANYWAY: People, I present to you the very first Nextel anointed Micro-Gen!

Looks awesome! Now I'm really physched about about trying it my own damned self.

As for the "iota cooler", I wouldn't have guessed that... The fish wick takes a little longer than the ss to heat but it has a higher thermal mass. I would have assumed that the Nextel would have a lower mass than either the ss or the fish wick.

Once you've vaped it down to a point where you can remove the body w/o making a mess, pull the body and and check the negative connection. A loose negative connection adds unnecessary resistance. You'll be able to tell if the wire glows all the way to the neg post.

I've been having issues getting a good solid connection to the neg post and I've been going quite a bit of thinking about how to replace the IC pin in the design with something that'll be easier to make a secure connection to...
Everything I came up with got shot down because of the limited amount of space in atty. that is until I got the idea of something like a brass sewing needle (can't solder steel).
Figuring that brass sewing needles may be tough to come by, I opted for the next best thing...

I simply bent over the IC pin to make an eye and soldered it into place. Here are some pics...

... and a 1.8 ohm for the ProVari

... and the obligatory glowing coils shot...

The 'eye' makes attaching the wire to the neg post a breeze. Now I just need to run it for a few days and see if it will work long term. If I find needles that work, I'll give them a try too.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
If you want to use a SS needle, you can wrap the part that needs soldering with a single strand of copper wire first and then make sure the solder encases it all to keep it out of the juice. It is a very handy trick and I've even done this to solder syringe needles in place. A little deforming on the end make sure you can't pull it out of the joint as well.
