Yeah, my husband thinks I'm crazy & obsessed.
I've never understood people who are concerned about crazy and obsessed people.
It is a matter of passion, and passion is good.

I strive to be crazy and obsessed with everything that interests me.
As long as I'm passionate about it, crazy and obsessed happens naturally.
:D

Went to the Walgreens in Times Square. Browse all 3 floors and couldn't find them.

Are you using one drinking straw or two coffee straws?

With one drinking straw, you put 2 notches at the mouth end and make sure the notches are turned to the short side of the cart, especially if the straw is pressed against the long side of the cart, because you don't want to block them & the airflow.

The face scrub I'm using for the plug is a Walgreen's brand Facial Cleansing Sponge.
Facial Cleansing Sponges | Walgreens

It has a definite grain to it, so it's important that the side of the sponge material is the top of your plug - this lets you squeeze it like an accordian to put it in the cart & it expands to plug the end. If you put it the other way, it'll expand up/down and won't wick at all.

so... after reading this thread i decided i MUST try this... got home... FAIL. i did both the vertical and horizontal spring , and the straw , varying sizes of poly-plugs... FAIL , all i got was a mouth full of juice.

Weird....

Usually, when I have it wrong.... it'll leave the atty too dry and I'll get liquid starvation. The only times I've flooded the atty or dumped the load was when I had some kind of gap between the filler and the cartridge wall.

But..... I quite using poly with this mod some time ago.

For the last 5 days I've been using the blue Scotch Brite pad with GREAT success. I run a 901 cart, so I take a simple 5/16" punch and hammer out a bunch of plugs. I use a flush-cut side cutter to put the flat on the plug and I'm good to go. For giggles I put a new plug in every morning. Don't know if it is necessary... but I've got about 50 of them so.... why not?

Kristin over on the straw-plug thread found this Buff-Puff material that she's been raving about. I picked some up at Walgreens and I can see why she likes it so much. It's a "directional weave" material and therefore it has all kinds of options. Anyway... I made a plug out of it.. and it works quite well also. It's a bit harder for me to handle, and I can't use my 5/16" punch trick on it.... so there is some variability that will come from compression and cut size... but on my second attemtp I had it working well.

Oh.... and I'm one of those guys who uses the "vertical spring". The 901 carts don't have the ledge on them. I think the vertical spring has some other advantages too.... but that's just me.

Been using the straw version of this since last night, no liquid in my mouth, constantly good vape. :thumb:

The only problem I had was when I dropped my Titan, it started leaking about 5 minutes later, I must have dislodged the fluval stopper. :(

All in all, it's just as fidly as any other mod IMO (the initial set up and re-filling). But I will use it for the rest of the week and see how it goes before switching out all my carts in favour of this (I could probably do with a better plugging material to be honest).

Once again, big thanks to all the crazy mad scientist types who take the time to tinker around and share all these little ideas with us. :)

I've been using this mod on a 510 for a couple of weeks now with fantastic success! The polyfill had to go because it was slowing down the wicking process with VG based liquids so I switched to the Scotch Brite scrubby pad. Voila! Perfection! It just doesn't get better than this ...

... until I maybe try Kristin's buff pads ... :)

kristin i see that Buff Puffs come in regular to extra gentle. which would you suggest using?
I use Walgeens generic brand - I'd venture a guess that they would be a copy of the "regular" version. The key with the buff stuff (I stopped calling it a "puff" for the he-men, lol) is that it has an accordian type property to it. When you look at it from the side and squeeze it, you can see how a majority of the fibers run in one direction. When you squeeze it together, it springs back out - but only in one direction. This makes it great for a plug, because you squeeze it to get it in the cart and then it springs back out to seal the end - yet leaves the channel for the liquid to get through.

If the "extra gentle" doesn't have the same property, it won't work the same way.

I'm on day 4 of using the same plug and have seen no reduction in vapor production, no leaking, no hardening and no clogging. We are guessing on the RSP thread that this stuff may make a great filler, as well, for those that don't want to mess with plugs & straws.

I need a little more direction on how to cut the buff stuff :p

Also did you wash the sponge first?, I notice a white dots or grains on it. The ingredients said Polyester Fiber (good) and Polyurethane Binder (dont know if good)
a quick check on poylurethane degradation shows that at temps of 160-200c the urethane component will dissociate to isocyanate and polyol.the polyol is no problem but isocyanates are toxic. not sure what temps are at the bridge but may want to rethink its use.

I just got my first e-cig on Thursday. It's a sidesho and I love the design and feel. I was having to drip to get good throat hit and vapor. Saw this mod and I'm in vaping heaven! Was about to head out to buy the fish filter stuff when I saw this. Now I don't need it! I'm chain vaping like a champ! I used the spring vertical because it just slid right in. I did two carts with the one spring. Now I truly have the answer to analogs! YES! YES! YES!
Thanks to everybody for sharing all the tips! If I get sick of the polyfill, or get strings (so far it's working and wicking great), I'm sure I have a buff puff in a drawer somewhere. Thanks Scottyballs and everyone else for the tips!
