I don't quite understand the hype behind mechanical/fixed voltage mods.

And I don't think that mechanical mods are hype anymore. They built a lot of steam up in this past year and a ton of of people are subohming. It really is a lifestyle.. It's amazing. I've had some customers convert from a Provari to a mech mod and they never went back.

So definitely, it's not hype. And I'm certain it'll just keep growing.
One day they'll discover that a DNA-30 will let them run those same sub-ohm coils and while getting a totally consistent vape no matter the battery's state-of-charge. Then they'll come back to regulated mods and wonder how they ever put up with something as crude as a mech. :D

Yup, the fact that you can buy decent cloned mech for next to nothing while a DNA 30 costs close to $200 has a lot to do with it. But to imply that a mech is somehow a better vape is just plain wrong.

For me it has to do with the fact that my cloned Sentinel and its cloned Patriot dropped nearly 15? ft onto a concrete walkway, and emerged unscathed but for a broken acrylic drip tip and a wrecked coil/wick. The vape isn't bad, either.

When I hold up my"work of art Ballistic mech." next to my DNA 30,i will choose the work of art. That is what you do not grasp.Holding up any of my works of art next to any of my DNA 30 MOD's(or any of my regulated MOD's),the work of art gets the nod it is as simple as that.

One can imply that a mech is often a much smaller vape, tho... and that both a mech and a DNA mod can give an excellent vape. Which, to me, is just excellent :)

Im a mech guy, mostly because I love the simplicity.

I thought I was a sub ohmer for all of about a week.

But with numerous regulated devices coming out that have similar capabilities as mechs as far as sub ohming goes I cant help but think their popularity will recede in the near future, esp when we start to see more cheap regulated devices (thanks China) become available.

But there will always be those of us like myself that still love the simplicity and form factor of a mech.

Though the Zna30 does look pretty sexy. .

Something as crude as a mech? That's interesting, actually. As one of the posters said, a huge amount of mechanical mods are pieces of art. When it comes to the DNA20/DNA30/Gi100/whatever the hell Vicious Ant is making (120 watts?) sure, I'll give the nod in terms of vapor production. I've dropped my mods several times and they're still working as if they were brand new. There are a few battle scars here and there, but mechanicals are just wonderful devices. I don't have a problem with box mods, but they could look better in terms of aesthetics. I could think of a few beautiful mods right now. GP Paps, BCV mods, the Caravela, the Swan, the red copper Stingray.. These things are more than just metal tubes.

Mechanical mods have had one hell of a vaping career so far. In the beginning they were all that was available before vv hit the market. Then they died off for awhile with all the Provari's, Darwin's, and other VV devices that came out. Then genesis atomizers came out and now the mech mod gets a rebirth because it can do what the Provari's and Darwin's of the world can't.

Until now.

DNA30 and the new Chinese SXxxx can both do subΩ builds and provide excellent power regulation.

It also depends on the type of regulation. A Provari or DNA or SXxxx chip provides fantastic regulation. The DNA and SXxxx send a clean DC signal that isn't PWM at all. The iTaste uses 33.3hz PWM which doesn't work near as well as intended.

Which iTaste? The MVP produces DC. Unfortunately, it only produces 11 watts of it, and that's a bit marginal.
