I can't stick around and make 5 meaningless posts in this forum category in order to post in a different category.

well that is the rule and as many have explained it is for good reason.

I would like the forum administration to carefully study their strategy. Because making it difficult for new members to engage is not the road to success.

well how gracious of you to depart this wisdom upon them.

I have a little experience in this area. ;) But I'll find out about e-cigarettes from experience I suppose.

you have experience as what the owner of forumuniversity.com? a admin forum with 1400 members? ECF here is running 39000+ and is one of the nicest and well staffed communities i have seen online.

I own 4 (vbulletin) forums myself and tech admin at a dozen others so i have some experience as well ;)

Can my account be deleted? If it can't be deleted, can you just change my username to igottago?

i dont believe that any well mannered and experienced admin would act so childishly.

"delete my account or change my name" ... seriously?

ETA: that was a little mean but it gets under my skin when admins sign up on forums and act like they know how to run it better....

Alot of forums have rules to where you can post for new members..it cuts down on spam..and also gets most of your early questions answered fairly quickly..instead of posting in the wrong place and just getting *wrong area moved*...have some patience...and seriously..how hard is it to wish people good luck with their venture or answer a few questions for people that you know the answers to.

All my questions have been answered quickly and in great detail in the new members area..

Hi igottago, welcome to the forum!

As far as I know, you can delete your "acount" or change your user name yourself. If you post that query, surely someone will promptly tell how to accomplish that.

By my count you already have three meaningless posts. What would it hurt to add two meaningless posts so that you would earn the privilege to post meaningless posts in other forums? I can post anywhere I want, but I didn't get to that point by posting meaningless posts. The other forums are far less active than this one, and I spend way more time here anyway. If you're so intent on posting meaningless posts in other forums, why not just post them here and be done with it? If you want to post something worthwhile, why not post it here? More people will see it and benefit from it. Or ignore it because of your condescending attitude. It's your call, of course.

I'm sorry to see that you're leaving.

Lets not beat round the bush, lets look at it for what it is.....

Welcome to ECF SoftWareRevue. The members in this thread have done a great job of explaining why the 5post rule exists. I cannot add much except to say the we boot 30-50 unregistered suppliers/spammers per week. This is made a lot easier by virtue of the 5post rule. I think our members appreciate our efforts to keep the forum free of this type of undesireable element.

I do hope you decide to stay and join the community.

"Sure, I could post a bunch of junk and gain permission to post in another forum, but why should I? I would much rather contribute to the community."

As others have said, this is the most active forum on the site. If you think you already "know everything" then why not help out some newbies who don't? How is that "not contributing" to the community?

"But wouldn't they be lost in the New Members forum? What purpose would they serve? They would get me the permission to post in the real forums."

The most popular forum on the site, both for newbies AND experts, isn't a "real" forum?

I have taken the liberty of scrolling through the first two pages of the New Members forum, and and EVERY SINGLE POST has at least one reply, and the overwhelming majority have several. Probably a third of the posts have several pages of replies.

And I also don't see how any post in any forum wouldn't eventually get "lost" unless you made it a sticky. Dude, if you just want to post stuff and have everyone focus on you and you only, just start a blog. This is a forum.

"I would be happy to speak with the forum administration if they're interested in learning effective methods of engaging new members, while curtailing spam."

As others have said, the type of spam we get here isn't ordinary bot spam. We have unregistered supplier coming in and that is most of what the 5-post rule is trying to limit. I've only been a member here for a bit over a week, and I've already seen such suppliers come in, and get removed. It's a very efficient way of doing things. I can't imagine how much more difficult it would be if they had to watch ALL of the forums for this stuff.

It's just 5 posts. I was up to 5 posts in a day, with the first thread I posted. It's not that hard.

You're not a special snowflake. If you didn't feel you could deal with the rules here, I don't really understand why you came here specifically to post that you didn't want to follow the rules, and then turn around and leave. What is the point of flouncing? From your picture, I'm assuming you're well out of high school. Why do you still feel a need to act that way?

Some folks are just too important to follow the rules everyone else can follow on one of the fastest growing sites on the internet.

Bye important person.

Why argue it folks? OP is a font of information and will soon have their own wildly successful site.

<Smiling and waving>

+1 on Why argue it folks?

Im already tired of watching noobs come in whining "this isnt for me" and 75 regulars trying to calm them down with "if you just give it one more try"..BS, let em' go! Ya'll are just too nice sometimes.
And before anyone says it..I am chill :D

You can also post questions in the Ask The Veterans forum. Beyond that I encourage new members to learn (e.g., by reading the articles in the ECF Library and sticky posts in this and other forums) and to share their early excitements, frustrations, and puzzlements with other new vapers.

Feel free to PM me with an answer to this question: What can a prospective or brand new vaper teach more seasoned ones?
