I can't stick around and make 5 meaningless posts in this forum category in order to post in a different category.

I would like the forum administration to carefully study their strategy. Because making it difficult for new members to engage is not the road to success.

I have a little experience in this area. ;) But I'll find out about e-cigarettes from experience I suppose.

Can my account be deleted? If it can't be deleted, can you just change my username to igottago?

You will find a lot of information on this forum just by lurking around and reading other posts. Chances are, whatever questions you have have already been asked and answered.

In any event, there is a lot of activity in the New Members Forum, so if you have any issues you want discussed, you will certainly get some great input in this forum.

Time isn't the point.

In fact, I need time out right now to say Hello! to a fellow Michigander. Or is that Michiganian. Actually, we sorted that out years ago. ;)

Back on topic. There are effective methods of dealing with spam that don't interfere with the user experience. Sure, I could post a bunch of junk and gain permission to post in another forum, but why should I? I would much rather contribute to the community.

OK. I could write some good threads down here. But wouldn't they be lost in the New Members forum? What purpose would they serve? They would get me the permission to post in the real forums. But isn't that all that's posted down here? Crap to gain permission to post out there?

I would be happy to speak with the forum administration if they're interested in learning effective methods of engaging new members, while curtailing spam.

what question do you have to ask somewhere else that you can't ask here?

Just curious but if you dont have time to make 5 posts how are you going to have time to charge your ecig?

But the admins are right, this limits any spam to the new members forum and not somewhere else. So important talk can go on in the categories where they belong and not just some ecig question or shady supply advertising in inappropriate threads where it causes the modes to constantly move and delete posts

i think you might be a little confused, you should read the posts in the new members forum. 95% get answered with great advice, they aren't lost, infact after awhile of being on the site and learning about ecigs usually the noobs start to share the knowledge they learn with even newer noobs. Its a great perpetual cycle.

I don't have any questions at this point. I'm simply making an observation and offering feedback for whatever it's worth.

I was only wanting to give props (in some manner) to a thread. It isn't important now. And if I keep answering questions in this thread, I'll end up with them 5 posts anywho. But that won't change my mind.

Requiring 5 posts to a single forum as a method of defeating spam is archaic. We've come a long ways in e-cigarettes and managing forum communities.

What's wrong with just reading.....it took me a month to catch up on postings, and at that time there were only 5000 members. But if you go looking for an answer to any question it's here somewhere.
Everyone goes around the block the same way. Special considerations are usually earned, however no one is above the rules. We've all had a little experience in that! ;)

Well- I don't know how the administrators feel about it. But as an IT guy, and someone who has managed web communities on vBulletin and other php based community software, I'd love to hear how you would propose to control spam posts.

If you are referring to captcha- that won't work. The spam they are most interested in controlling is most likely vendor posts announcing this or that.

So do tell- and you'll be making another post. And I'm actually interested as both a vBulletin administrator and an IT person.

At this moment, there are 60 people viewing the New Members Forum. At least 20 more than any other forum here.

Posts don't get lost here. In fact, you'll probably get more mileage out of a post in the New Members, than anywhere else. I have plenty of posts, member for over 2 months now. But I still spend 95% of my time in the New Members forum.
And yes, questions asked get very good answers, and from the experienced people.

It's for the protection of the members. Unregistered and sometimes unreputable vendors join the forum and pretending to be new members, will post something like "I just joined the forum and I found xxxxxx to have great e-cigs. You should try them out."
How do you protect against that? It can easily be caught in the New Members Section, but a lot more difficult if it was spread throughout the forum.
