Hello everyone,

My girlfriend and I are currently both a pack a day smokers and are looking into buying a couple of e cigs. The amount of information and models out there is quite overwhelming.

What we are looking to do is to get a couple of good kits right off the bat. Don't really want to start with low end stuff, but would rather get a couple good kits from the start rather than waste time and money.

Unfortunately we are both newbs and do not know what exact kits to buy or what vendors to buy them from.

If you all were to honestly recccomend a decent kit to a newbie what would it be?

Janty NEO the way to go?

Hrm...

If my experience is worth anything, I found that a good beginner vape kit was getting an Ego (650 mAh+) battery with Boge cartomizers (low reisistance ~1.5 Ohms). The cartomizers are easy to use (tilt and drip in the liquid until the top looks slushy) and the Ego battery provides enough power for 2-4 mL depending on the charge of the battery.

Hope that helps!

You will get many suggestions - about as many as if you asked "what is the best cereal on the market." I, also, like the eGo or 510 for starters mainly becuase it is so easy to interchange with cartos, carts, batts, etc.

Other models do as well and there are adapters to covert one to the other, but the 510 series seems to be fairly universal and up/down-gradable as your needs or interests may change.

I don't keep track of these new Joye/Janty models. Don't even know what that is. Do you know what threading it is? Do you know what voltage the batteries are? Do you know what else it's compatible with?

If you don't know then I say no because at least 50% who start out with atomizer tanks end up switching to cartomizers. Don't buy something if you don't know what it's compatible with and where else you can get parts. There is at least one fat battery thing around that is compatible with nothing and for a first ecig I only recommend something with a popular threading (510 is most popular, KR808D-1/901 is second most popular) - reason is so you can try a bunch of atomizers and cartomizers, carto tanks, etc if you don't like the setup it came with.

Hi Chris, Glad you have chosen to do what so many have left until after their first purchase. Like many here I started with an over-the-counter solution from a local tobacco shop. It got me started and i am still thankful for that. I then two weeks later purchased a regular 510 kit..... Which was nicer but i found myself standing next to the wall charger waiting for a battery to charge so that I could put the one I had just run dead on...... which led me to another purchase..... I finally found what "hit the mark" for me personally. I purchased an eGo clone(see Riva/Kgo/eCo etc). The kit(s) I purchased where the eCo from Good Prophets. They where what kept me vaping over the last year. I have retired only one of the batteries from that kit and still have three in my personal rotation and my wife still only uses her two original units. The eGo style units all have much much better battery life (mAh) than the cig-sized units. The general rule of thumb is that 100mAh is equal to about an hour for an average vaper. So armed with a little more knowledge I hope this has helped to lessen the confusion. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

Oh Boy...You've opened up a can of worms. Someone will be telling you to get a Provari in a minute.

The eGo types are a good start. Way better than starting with those cig looking minis.
They are all available in a 510 thread pattern. That is what will give you the most options in cartos, attys, etc.

Get the largest battery you can if you get one of the sealed battery types. It will allow you to use low resistance cartomizers without doing any significant damage to the battery. A 650 will work, but a LR atty stresses any battery, so the bigger the better. And eGo types are disposable. They'll last from a few months to a year. For someone coming off a 2PAD habit, it would probably be closer to 6 months or so.

My personal recommendation is the E-Power. It's the only one that will take Generic, off the shelf batteries. It's also repairable. You can get new switch units for it if you need to. No other eGo type can make that claim. That alone is a serious advantage over the sealed units.

The E-Power costs more than most of the smaller, sealed eGo types, but it's worth it in the long run, maybe in the short run too.

Most of all, you will do well to skip the mini cigarette type ecigs. Any of the eGo types will beat the socks off any of the mini's in terms of vapor production, economy, versatility and, especially, battery life.

As for vendors, I know Madvapes.com has the E-Power and they're well respected. Pretty much any of the vendors on the ECF vendor list will do you right. For newbs, you can hardly beat the service at Cignot, but I'm not sure what their selection is right now. You're going to have to shop around a bit.

As Dormouse said, those are the most popular two. If you and your gf are in it together, maybe you could buy one "510" thread starter kit (eGo) and one "KR808D-1/901" type starter kit. You would be able to try the two major types and see what you like/not like about each. You could then either buy another one of the same or use an adapter connection to convert some of the features.

I'm pretty new myself. Me and the wife have been off cigarettes for 23 days now with the help of the e-ciggs, and it's the greatest feeling. Like I said I'm new, but I am finally using a setup I love after a little experimentation. I am using Ego 900 mah batteries, and the smoke tech mega cartomizers (the clear ones with the round tips). I love it. My battery lasts almost all day, and the cartomizer once full only requires topping off once a day, and I am a very heavy vaper right now (around 5-6 ml a day). The taste is pure, no dry hits, or burnt taste like I got every now and then with the atomizer and the cartridge. And if the car tonier only lasts a week even (which I've heard they last much longer) then its still cheaper than replacing one Mega atomizer a month. My wife is using a standard 510 with Boge cartomizers and she really likes it because it's smaller kind of like a real cigarette. Go to a local store, hold them, decide wether you want something that feels more like a real cigg, but requires more changing of batteries, and carts, or if you want something that requires less attention but doesn't look like a real cigg. It's really a matter of personal preference. Go with a good brand and read a lot on here. It's helped me a lot. Good luck with quitting, your gonna feel so much better.

Hi Chris - I too started on an EGO kit, played around with it and made some changes to customize for my own tastes. EGO T was a good starter for me as it captured my interest and gave me something to build upon.
Good luck on your journey.

All great advice from the above experienced folks, I started with the basic E-cig and went to the Ego system (Ego, Ego-T & Ego-C) with the 510 threads, it was a great start for me and now I can expand on my batteries if I want to because of the common thread size. Which I will probably do in search of the perfect vape:)

I recommend the KGO kits from Hoosier Ecig Supplies. You can watch the video on their site of pbsuardo comparing the battery to 18650 high end batteries used in mods. For $45 IMHO you can't beat it for starting out. I have 4 friends that have started this way and are all very thankful they did.

I started about 4 weeks ago with an EGo starter Kit 650 mah battery. The life on the battery was a bit short for me because my days are a bit long so upgraded to an 1100 mah battery (which is where i should have started) so in my short, not very experienced vaping life, I would suggest starting with an EGo (or similar Kgo etc.) starter kit 1100mah battery. Good news is that it is a 510 connector. If you want to stay with Ego for a LONG time you can and do quite a bit with it to "trick" it out.

Good luck and welcome to the vaping world!!!

I have the eGo-T with the 1100mah battery (atty and tank system) as my first, and only, kit. I've had no complaints over it and I was able to stop smoking analogs almost immediately. 27 days and I haven't looked back.

I still have 6 packs of camel 99's sitting on my shelf that just stare at me and i'm not even tempted to reach for them anymore.

I'm assuming there are probably "better" solutions out there for vaping, but so far i haven't even wanted to look elsewhere

The unit the OP mentioned Janty Neo is a 650mah model that I have never seen and it does not say what threading it uses.
Janty electronic cigarettes, e-liquids and carts - NEO Classic

It looks nice though I am only assuming the manuals are well sealed on the threaded end (I would not ever buy autos, especially not an auto big battery system - autos are too easy to kill with juice leaks). But hey don't say what threading it is. You could ask them and if the manuals are sealed on the threaded end and if it's 510 threading then sure you could try it - it's a bit pricey (to say the least) but you could get it if that's what you want. It's possible nobody will be able to help you with it if you have a problem though. KR808D-1/901 threading has less stuff available but still OK as a starter - there are some nice KR808D-1 cartomizers.

But I certainly would not buy that Neo with only the information they provide.
