First thing I remember is saying to myself, "I'm not gonna use one of those e-cigarette things." Then three months later I was a week and a month away from my third year of vaping.

Yep. Sounds about right. LOL. I, on the other hand, bought into the whole e-cig thing after the first puff on an expensive POS I got at the mall kiosk. From that first puff, I wanted it to work and I was determined to make it work for me. Seven smoke-free years later....it's still working.

Sometimes I think one of the biggest difference between vaping now versus vaping back in the day is

Will this setup work for me versus I can make this work for me.
When I think back to the beginning....we were all working very hard to make this work for us. I can remember carrying 5-6 (90mAh) batteries with me every time I left the house. I had those little ponytail 510 chargers hanging everywhere. (I had a power strip that looked like a huge spider when I was charging up for the next day.) I spent a great deal of time prepping for the next day. I would load up handfuls of cartridges (each cartridge held about 12 drops of liquid) and carefully label and stash them. Back then a carrying case was a big deal. Fun times. When the eGo style PVs came out, I thought WOW!

MY first exposure to vaping was one of those browser sidebar teasers that talked about ecigarettes as a sure fire way to quit smoking. There were photos and a testimonial from a female reporter who stopped smoking and started vaping after covering a story about a quit smoking clinic that used vaping to get people off cigarettes. Vaping was all shiny and new and wonderful back then. I had never heard of it. It's still wonderful today, though.

After reading that story I searched and found ECF. Been here since 2010. Vaping snatched up my cigarette habit and threw it away for me.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again...
I remember when you went by the name of JC Newbie.
    :)
I went by JC Newbie L-O-N-G after I passed the "newbie" stage. I think I became more credible when I changed it to JC Okie. I had the newbie name for over a year. And I remember you from back in the "olden days"..... I remember knowing what the DC stood for at one time.....:)......I may have to go do a search.

Then we started building our own devices out of harbor freight flashlights with cr123 batteries, how safe was that. I just built a mechanical box mod with a 20700. I never knew vaping out of necessity would turn into a electronics hobby.

And I look at that the New Members sub-forum these days, and find very few struggling at first vape anymore.
    Success, now, is nearly guaranteed.

You guys have done a great job with the technology. I'm new. I walked into the vape shop, knowing nothing, and just asked for something easy to use with a decent throat hit for not too much money and they had it. I liked the first flavor I tried. It delivers a satisfying puff. A monkey could use it - all you do is press a button. I got the thing as a novelty - I didn't really think it would help to quit smoking, it just seemed like fun (and I wanted to be able to use it indoors without making a stink). But once I had it for a while, I just didn't see the point in getting any more cigs. It wasn't like some big struggle. More like "meh. Kinda tastes like crap. I'll get around to it. Maybe."

You people have created a miracle. I can't even begin to tell you how badly I needed this. I had coughs that felt like they ripped my lungs, I lived on chinese noodles to afford cigs, I was sick all the time, I couldn't smell anything, I had a deep pain in my lung. It's all over. I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor here because, as far as I was concerned, it was impossible for me to quit. I had tried everything, cold turkey many times, patches, gums, Wellbutrin (bad idea), you name it.

    Thankyou!
