Welcome surprise Super T mail today as I never saw a shipping confirmation. Both are currently taking a bath. Was only able to screw my ELA one on like 2 turns. Anyone else had this happen to them?

They may be a bit tight, try a little lube on the threads (noalox or any petroleum based product) Work it back and forth and let me know if you got it on or not. Maybe be a burr too so check for that. I'll double check those going out to make sure too.

I must have overlooked my shipping notice because my ELA Stratas came without warning. Had my brother not received his ELA Stratas yesterday, I would never have checked the mailbox on my way to work this morning. I had a couple of burrs but I made quick work of those. I think I'm gonna go hide in my office for a bit to build this sucker. My only request now would be for a locking ring that matches the accent ring.

EDIT: Maybe it's just me but it sure feels like the internal dimensions of the ELA Strata are larger than that of the Simplicity/P+ Strata. Or maybe I'm just getting a lot better at building this thing :laugh: The air holes definitely feel larger because I don't have to open it up as much as the Simplicity Strata in order to get the same draw. Just make sure that you wash the Strata properly. I had quite a bit of machine oil in mine. Other than that, this thing is perfect!!!

Interior dimensions and air holes are the exact same on all models of Strata :)

Maybe since you thought it was bigger inside there, you were positioning your coils out further towards the wall?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's the case. I took my time building the coil, and I made sure to set it as far out as possible. When I get home from work I'll throw the P+ together so that the trio will be complete.

Hi folks!

I know I wont have time to write up the proper Ophion Coil tutorial, but what I can do is help everyone make their own attempts with more success...

From what I'm seeing in all your photos thus far is a problem with the coil itself. The concept is pretty straight-forward, but the coil prep is more critical.

The main thing you want to do before installing your Ophion Coil is to have it flat. I just made up a quick Ophion Coil to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Here is basically what it should look like before terminating it.

Sometime in April when the dust settles from my move, I will post the write up in depth for building the Strata with the Ophion Coil.

Thanks for posting this, gonna have to give this one a try. I've got it setup now with the stretched coil method and it's working too well to rebuild at the moment, but when it's ready this will be the route I try next.

So no wonder we haven't heard from you... The big move. Local or out of state?

What was your order number? I never got a shipping notice, but I did order mine within the first week of its preorder

Great to hear fraghole! What coil/wick setup you rockin'?!

Its dual vertical 28g micro coils and cotton. I set them close to the negative posts, close to the deck without touching, and put the bottom of the coils even with the deck. That way the coils are in vertical alignment with the air gap between the deck and cap. I use the engraved p on the drip tip to "mark" the location of one of the coils when the cap is closed, and since everything is symmetrical, you don't have to worry with the location of the second wick as long as you place it 180° from the other, and knowing that the actual air inlet holes are slightly to the right of the visible external air holes, it makes it very simple to adjust the cap for wick alignment and airflow.

A very easy way to make flat, even "coils": wrap a normal coil, then stretch it out, then press it between two flat surfaces, e.g., use a ruler to press it down on a table. This method also helps with determining what resistance you will end up with if you are used to a certain gauge, coil size and number of wraps. Stretch it out pretty good or it might kink in the corners rather than going perfectly flat and even.

Both mine arrived today so I put them in an ultra sonic bath. First with some detergent and a few drops of veg oil (a chemist guy told me to do that), then rinse and u.s. with steredent tabs, rinse and u.s with

plain water and job done.

I wired up the ELA Strata with one of those squiggley Ophion heaters to 1ohm resistance, stuffed it with cotton and to my suprise and disbelief it worked great, air flow control and all.

I was really worried about this purchase but so far so good and I am not a fanboy by any stretch.

Next is the P+.

A crude analogy:
Clearomizers/Cartomizers -> Mac
Classic RBA/RDAs -> Windows
Precise Strata -> Linux

All are functional, but some are more customizable than others. If you put in the time, you will reap the rewards. :)

Edit: As Snork wisely noted, if one wants to master the Strata, one must master the concept of airflow. Airflow is the end-all be-all of the flavor/throat-hit/vapor calculus.

And it's also not like the Strata is some kind of glowing radioactive alien object. Some folks seem to be freaking out that they may need to try new things, but hell, that's part of the fun! People are still coming out daily with the latest greatest builds for the Kayfun, Genisis, the Odysseus even!
