You want cotton to fill coil. You want a little tension/when you pull it back and forth..

Too little, you'll see a lot of bubbling in between wick and coil. Too much, you'll get what look like shoulders on either side of the coil..if this is happening, you'll almost be warping the coil forcing that wick in the coil.

rounding third and heading home...
it seems that everyone is only talking about the ipv2 50watt mod- thisthread was for both the 50watt and 35 watt ipv1. didn't anybody order the ipv1? i have no need for 50 watts and ordered the ipv1- doesn't anybody have anything to say about the performance of this mod? it would be nice for the few of us who ordered this one to hear any comments(good or bad) about it. so, does anyone have the ipv1 and how has it been performing? anybody?.......

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
I see, I think that's a good point.

So I'm having wicking issues, which has never really happened when I was using the mechanical, when you guys wick with cotton, if you look inside the coil is the cotton filling the middle, or can you see space between the coil and the cotton? It was working well for a bit, but now my 1.5 single coil tastes burnt, even at 23 watts, and any lower and it just doesn't hit well.

Its funny, I thought I was pretty experienced until I got the IPV2, now I feel like a beginner again. With the zmax I could build a great coil with no wicking issues, but now I am definitely having issues.

There is no possible way i could see into a coil , my eyesight isn't that good anymore but i know what your experiencing as i just started to experience the same and i'm baffled by it.

I wick like i have always wicked , i pull cotton through the coil and make sure it's not overly loose or too tight , mild resistance is how i would put it but for some reason i am starting to experience dry hits.

Weird thing is that i am not even vaping high wattage , it's happening at all settings .

Ya its weird to me, i havent had dry hits since the first week i started builsing. My wick has light resistance, it seems to be random, it will work fine for awhile but then randomly dry hit even when the wick is saturated. I am baffled as well.

SuspectK, that sounds like what my coils are like, not tight enough to have shoulders (I like that description by the way), but enough to fill the coil. Like I was saying, it works most of the time but randomly dry hits. Also, the coil is very uniformly built but if I take the wick out and fire it, it has hot spots even though all the wraps are touching, and its a pretty well built coil, much more uniform than the dual coils on my trident, yet the trident doesn't have hot spots and the IGO does. Any thoughts?

Hot spots signify that something is shorting slightly. Take a magnified picture of it...you may notice a wrap that has a portion of it some what bent, causing a small area to be touching, with a little gap around it.

PM me if you have further issues.

I had this happen to me a lot when I was trying out nichrome, my coil would be perfect looking but would develop shorts between the wraps after a dry burn to remove buildup. I could usually fix it by putting my drill bit back into the coil and repositioning the coil slightly and moving it right back.
Follow that with a pulse and squeeze with tweezers.(repeat)

This should help if you are using kanthal or nichrome.

Two questions that I am curious about:

1) Does this mod fit (relatively) easily in your pocket for when you are on the go? (I am coming from a nemesis which just fits oh-so-nicely) I am doubtful my kayfun+IPV would be comfortable, but maybe a dripper?

2) I read on a few pages back about the Magma not fitting properly due to non-adjustable 510 connection. Does this appear to be true for ALL the variations of it (clones/authentics)? I am looking to pick up an Infinite Magma clone to run on one but may forgo the Infinite one if it appears to be problematic. I also think I read something about a v3 of the magma that was released with a shortened 510 or an adjustable 510? Anyone having better luck with one version of the Magma over the other? If it is riding higher on the IPV is it high enough that with impact it could sever/jam the 510 into the box?

Thanks for the feedback! :toast:

I watched a video review of the IPV, wherein the reviewer was using a Magma clone. With the 510 screw all the way in there was slight gap between the two. I think the latest authentic Magma has shorter 510 connection.

Anyone order from elev8vape if so what's your order number and have you received your mod yet I'm in no rush but I've been waiting 2-3 weeks now and still nothing again I'm in no serious hurry to get my mod but it would be good to know what's the most current order numbers received

Yes, I have ordered from Elev8. First week of July, order #61** Silver, and no change in status.

Thats interesting elev8 isn't answering their phone.
Im starting to get a little sketched out!
from my best guess its been a couple of weeks since anyone received
anything from them. so they must not be getting shipments every 2 to 3 days
like they claim. looks like they only got their first shipment and thats it.
makes it kinda hard to stick with them when there are several other vendors
with them in stock no pre orders. no word on the silver being shipped either.
should of waited lol. this will be my last pre-order.

Are people trying to use their in site messaging system? Because every time I have emailed them from my personal email they (elev8) have responded. I received this from them a couple of days ago, they never responded when I tried their in site messaging though.
"The units are being shipped to us on Tuesday, all orders will start being fulfilled on Friday."

I checked the coil, there are no bends, but it looks like I may have twisted the wire on one of the wraps, its kinda hard to tell with round wire. I'm just going to build a new one after work, hope its just a fluke thing. I built a normal, non micro coil without the wire touching for the trident, still haven't decided how I feel about it, I built it before bed and I only bring my nautilus to work or people always stop and ask me why I blow out so much more smoke than them, which gets annoying, so I'll test it more thoroughly this evening, I read over in the RBA section that spacing them out is supposed to solve the dry hit problem

For what it is worth I canceled my order with Elev8 7/31 and placed a new order (+ $30) with Vivid Smoke on the same day. Tracking shows it will be here tomorrow. Communication with Vivid has been outstanding!

How easy was it to cancel your order with elev8? Did you just email them?
