Do we know anything about the firmware update process? This is my first box mod. Has anyone done it with the IPV2?

Is it as easy as mounting a drive and dropping a file onto it then letting it restart. Or is it more running a terminal command?

I know nothing about the chip, so this is just speculation, but I'd be shocked, SHOCKED!, if it were that easy. My suspicion is that if it's user ugradable at all, it'd be via JTAG or ICSP. (Or some other method that most vapers won't have laying around the house.)

The whole point of the micro usb port is to upgrade the firmware, So I don't believe a serial bus will be needed like the Jtag. I'm hoping its just drag and drop and restart. and at the must using a terminal or putty to make a connection and run a script.

I'm really not seeing the cost benefit to this unit yet..

Nah the firmware is easly upgradeable via USB, but I suspect from from my testing, and knowing that the charging circuitry is a total seperate board of it's own with nothing but input and output leads, and knowing for a fact AS IS will not output any voltage what so ever that no amout of firmware upgrade to the sx330 will fix it.
Its not like the output is feeding voltage to the to the sx330 chipset but the sx330 is not passing it, the dang charging board is not outputting voltage at all.
I ordered a Micro-USB charging module from Evolv when it arrives I'm going to mod mine from the janky powersupply plug to micro-usb, I'll keep you guy updated on my progress.

Defiantly keep us updated.
Someone posted that the charging board goes straight to the sx330 and so does the batteries. It's probably wishful thinking but I hope its just a firmware upgrade needed.

How does that mIcro USB charging module work. I would think it would take forever to charge 2 batteries

See my other post http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/variable-voltage-apv-discussion/613210-ipv3-closer-look.html for pictures of whats inside the IPV3

wouldn't any different than charging using an exrernal power supply, 500mA or 1A is all the same only the medium has changed.
Eeither way something is better that whats there now.... nothing.
It's a shame that one has to modify a brand new product just to get it working like it should have been from the factory.

Thanks looking now..

So pretty much remove the leads from the charging board and connect them to the mini charging module.. or are you planing to connect the battles directly in the mini module in some way.

If still using the leads to the sx330 we are still assuming firmware is working correctly in their.

Please totally keep me in the loop on this one I may go this route as well.

The other question will be do you lose the functionality of being able to upgrade using the USB. May be better to dermal out the power cord connector now and put a new mini charger in that spot.

First I'll try threw the sx330, if that fails to work, I'll wire it like for a DNA board

If this thing doesn't flipping charge with a cable as advertised, I'm going to flip out. It's the only reason I cancelled my sigelei 100w order and waited extra more time for a regulated box mod with 2 batteries. I don't even vape past 40w...

Feels more and more like a beta test unit to me. I have contacted eciggity but have not heard a reply yet.The thing vapes like a champ but there is a lot of stuff not adding up that makes me feel like I received a sample unit. I am really looking forward to other batches coming in so it can be confirmed on whether these features work as advertised on other units. I am getting the impression that P4U rushed the first batches.

@WeirdWillie -- did you notice the mcu on the back of the charger board? there is some logic there man -- I wouldn't be surprised if its just not seeing a current draw and it thinks the battery is fully charged and is shutting itself off -- I'll keep hoping that its something they will fix via firmware... Mine looks sanded -- does yours have a visable part number?

Edit - it might be looking for the batteries to be in the safe charging range too

About the straight USB charger replacement I'm not sure how that would work unless its going to boost the voltage from 5V to the 9V range to charge two batteries in series. and once you start boosting voltage you loose current -- which means longer charge times (250ma @5v vs 1A @9v is a pretty large wattage difference.) I'd really like to see a mod that would balance the charge -- it would take an extra input over to the center of the batteries but would be better for the batteries and safer then doing them in series.

It looks like its custom software -- they have a 60W and a 100W firmware available here (n/m for the wrong model -- removed) -- I bet its just using an FTDI chip to allow serial comms to the chip for upgrading -- I have the ftdi and atmel out of the box USB serial drivers setup on a laptop I use for my 3d printer and microcontrollers -- I'll give it a try later and see if it recognizes the device when plugged in.

I think I will hold off on actually upgrading the firmware until P4U releases the update.

The firmware up there now looks like its just a bin file with an SXI extension to keep it from being recognized by other programs.

thats for the sx350, different architecture.

If the latter, would that be in conjunction with trying to debug / make the existing charging circuit work? That PCB looks awfully sparse, so I wonder if it also uses some circuitry on the sx330 PCB.

That DNA charging module (is that the one?) seems a bit on the small side, but then that's my reaction to a lot of e-cig circuits -- for example the 2 Riva's I had that burned up. I tend to think more in terms of needing heat sinks. This is probably why I'm leary of what look to me to be "cheap" charging circuits. OTOH, check out the guts on a Pila.

Of course, I'm the sort of guy who'd build a linear regulated 6V supply to run the Pila, after the supplied wall-wart decided it was finished. I'm pretty sure it'll out-live me.
