I know i have seen research where people, nonsmokers, were put on patches and gums containing nic and after six months they were taking off with no addiction. Just what the heck is BT putting in cigs? still to this day i still crave a cig now and then...is it really the nic or other stuff BT is putting in their cigs? Yet soo many on this forum still add nic to their vape. Which is it, is nic addictive or not? I honestly don't know. But i do know this, having nic in my vaping is what got me off of cigs...so again what is the consensus? is it addictive or not. Research says one thing for nonsmokers, yet our practices in vaping say another. Did research get it right or wrong in this area?

I tried 0 nic liquid and lasted about one week. The cravings were not near as bad as when I tried to quit smoking before I vaped. I just like how nicotine makes me feel. Yes bt adds chemicals to enhance the hit and flavor. American Spirits is an example of cigarettes that just use straight up tobacco with no extra crap added to it.

My experience with 3 years of smoking:

I never needed a cigarette, just smoked cause I wanted to, wasn't concerned with my health at the time.
Nicotine messes with my blood sugars so I decided to stop.
I put them down one day, and that was it. I started vaping because I tried it one day and I liked it and I use 0 now.
I didnt use a vaporizer until I had not smoked for about 6 months, and only tried it out of interest.
As far as the first few nicotine highs at the start of smoking Nicotine I never had an addiction I could observe, hence why I just put it down and that was it.

Here is how I see it.............................

Some people have a couple beers while mowing the lawn.

Some people have many beers and get drunk and stupid then sober up and go to work on Monday and don't think about it.

Some people drink and bee, switch to vodka and come to in jail and/or rehab.

Some drink til they die.

So what is the effect of beer??

Nicotine seems to grip people different also.

For me once I got a vape set up with enough power and air to blow the nicotine in me I never thought about a cigarette again. Not once in whats become several years. I have never had a craving of anykind. As long as I'm full of nic. I get to far from my last nic up and the old edgy/angry me starts coming out.

I smoked 100% natural cigs. I don't believe they had any thing but selective bred tobacco with more and more nicotine. And to be honest if I knew which cigarette had the highest nic I wouldn't have cried about it I would have sought them out.

Well, the studi(es) thrown around are that nic is about as addictive as coffee. It's also a stimulant and I had a hard enough time with the other ingredients (American Spirits "say" they are additive free, but you've still got a tar MAOI detox and sometimes I wonder if that stuff was GMO, with some humectants and some alkaloid boosts, not to mention they spray their tobacco with straight up nic, I read one study where it had the highest nic on the market, not sure how it is now it's under (yet again) new leadership.... I'm just glad not to be buying it anymore.... When I talked to my doc and told him I smoked additive free tobacco he was like, "Oh, that's probably why you are still alive then, Anna." I am for the most part inclined to agree with him. :) Yeah, I've been smoking tins of American Spirits (we have an injector) for over 10 years.... I think it did aid my health, to a point. :)

I read some list somewhere that talked about all the possible additives, DeAnna, I can't remember where. I will try to find it. It was mind-boggling. To me, the alkaloids were tough to let go of. That said, I know nicotine is a brain organizer and I have ADHD, so I'm unlikely to give up nicotine completely....

OK, not really /thread, but I will tell you a story:

Many years ago while I was still a die hard smoker I was having a particularly rough day at a very difficult job. As luck would have it my immediate supervisor was one of those guys that would try to screw you out of your breaks. I had asked him to send me to break multiple times (we had to be relieved) and he kept blowing me off. At one point I had been working for five hours without a break doing back breaking labor in horrible conditions. The last time he said no I told him that I was going to pick up a three foot iron bar (a tool we used in the job), crack his skull open with it, and go take my break while he bled to death out on the floor. He offered me some Copenhagen and I told him that I didn't use it. He said, "You do now." I tried it. Within moments I felt better and no longer wanted to kill him. The miracle of nicotine!

What he did was against the law by making you work that long without a break.... I would have felt better from the snuff as well but I still would have wanted to dust him.

Almost anything can be habit forming. The word addiction needs to mean something more. How about unhealthy dependence? I don't consider vaping to be harmful to me compared to smoking. If I hadn't started vaping I would still be smoking. It isn't just about health. Smoking cost me $3,000 a year. A year supply of DIY costs me $25. That's what this is really about but the first rule of politics is never acknowledge the 800 pound gorilla.

I ended up bringing the situation to a head in a way that embarrassed him. We started getting our breaks after that. He eventually got fired for lying on his application, a previous drug related conviction.

I almost forgot to mention a story that is similar to your own......> One weekend when I was off work, I decided to quit smoking and go cold turkey.. I made it through the weekend even thought it was difficult to do. Then Monday came around and I had to go back to work. The only thing that was constantly on my mind was cigarettes. I was grumpy and feeling like crap..... Anyway, that Monday at work, I could not take it any longer... One of my coworkers offered me a pinch of chewing tobacco....... I didn't think it would help me at all because it was nothing like my favorite addiction, which was cigarettes ........ Man, was I ever wrong..... I put that chewing tobacco in my mouth and within a few minutes, my anger left as well as all of the physical withdrawal symptoms from smoking. It felt just like I had smoked a cigarette......... Needless to say, after work was over, I went to the nearest store and purchased a can of chewing tobacco....... I ended up chewing for many years after that.... So, I know EXACTLY what you are saying.......... I don't know if it was solely the nicotine or the other junk added to chewing tobacco but I do know that it sure cured my withdrawal from smoking.... I imagine there is just as much toxic junk inside of BT chewing tobacco as there is smoking tobacco.

Yup. That incident caused me to pick up the habit and keep it for years. It was always secondary to smoking but I used it in situations where I couldn't smoke. It was a lot easier to quit that then smoking was. I think it was pretty much all about the drug.

WholeCig, now Liquid Leaf, manufactured a Whole Tobacco Alkaloid (WTA) liquid that contained all of the alkaloids from the tobacco leaf. Liquid leaf closed their online store earlier this year.

There was some research showing that some smokers who tried vaping were unable to completely quit analogs and that they were able to do so with WTA. IIRC, the studies were inconclusive but showed promise.

I still have a bottle of the original WholeCig flavorless liquid. I bought it a few years back with the intention of adding some to my DIY tobaccos, but never did -- it tastes like vaping lawn grass -- but it does have a different effect on me.

Big old chew of Redman is what got me through milking for years. I'd smoke all day doing tractor work, often witha chew in, but no smoking while milking. This habit cost me my teef of coarse but what are ya gonna do.

This is why I'm always a little lost when people talk of oral fixations and chemicalsin combustion and what not. For me the bottom line has always been nicotine.

I smoked for over 40 years at least a pack a day. I actually quit cold turkey once for about 3 months and went back to smoking because I still craved a cigarette. Don't know if it was the nicotine or what the reason was but could not get past that 3 month period.

I started vaping about 8 months ago on high nicotine ejuice and only had a craving for cigs for about two weeks after that. I have since cut down from 48 mg liquid that was in those over the counter BT products to 3 mg nic and have zero desire to smoke anymore.
