My buddy sought long and hard for his Darwin two months ago. He had it less than 3 weeks when he offered to sell it to me so he could buy an Itaste MVP.

When he first showed it to me, I swear, he handled it like it was some sort of lost religious relic. I held it, felt the weight, but looked at it more closely. It looked like a Klingon toy. The whole swivel up-and-down 510 attachment was the biggest turn off for me. What an odd design. It could break so easily.

The menu was very attractive, but I've seen menus just as nice in the Siegeili (sp) Zmax, and the Vamo's menu isn't all that bad, either.

But his main schtick was that you could stick anything on it and it would automatically make it taste awesome, like it was the K.I.T. of vaping. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. He made it sound like the exclusivity of it made it priceless. But I for one don't want an expensive mod that I'd have to send off to get repaired if something went wrong. Just look at that Chopperguy's mod thread.

Ok, long post, sorry.

Now that we have ZMax's and Vamos for the cheap, is the Darwin still even relevant anymore? Anyone owning one care to chime in?

I don't think it's fair to knock the Darwin. IMO, it was the reason power regulation has gotten as big as it has. There are plenty of people out there that still love their Darwins, b/c everybody's vaping preferences are different. I didn't really like the swinging arm myself, but I really enjoyed the display b/c it tells you all the info on it. There's no menu, just quick and easy power regulation. BTW, it's all American designed and built. Evolv now makes The Kick, DNA12 and DNA20, which are all awesome!!!!

I wasn't knocking it. ;-) I was just asking if vapers think it's still relevant, now that we have relatively cheap VW. I'm sure it was a stepping stone in the right direction, but is it still that hallowed piece of hardware so many sought, but could never find? I still hear to this day they are almost impossible to find.

I wouldn't say the Darwin is the reason power regulation has gotten so big. The Darwin is extremely hard to obtain and pricey. The cheaper vw/vv mods are what got power regulation so big - the Zmax v1 started the ball rolling, even though it was only using AVG. RMS quickly followed.
I think the Darwin is just getting past its used by date now - non-removeable battery, and the arm which isn't suited to tanks or clearos - and a lot of people use those.
I thought about getting one some time back but after watching Scott Bonners review I changed my mind:
REVIEW OF THE DARWIN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE - YouTube

Its a piece of vaping history, and could be considered a collectible I suppose.
