...and start putting the blame where it belongs. We keep blaming Big tobacco for trying to get certain liquids/devices banned. We blame Big Government for knee-jerk reactions, idiotic legislation, and stupid policies. Look, I hate what both BT and BG are doing, but let's face it, what they are doing is entirely within the framework that we have set up.
That blame belongs entirely upon us, as a people. We have voted in a government (and governmental policies) that have so much control over us that these types of things are allowed to happen. What did we expect?...that the government that we, piece by piece, have given our freedom up to would always do the sensible thing? Always do the right thing? If so, then shame on us.
I am not an anarchist. I believe that there IS a place for government. I am just amazed that we keep voting away our freedoms. How do we do this? Every time we vote in another tax, ask for government to "give us more stuff", ask for them to take control of another aspect of our lives, we give away a little more of our freedom. I am an American who has lived in several states, Japan, and now England, and I see the same thing happening EVERYWHERE. This isn't an American problem; it isn't a European problem, it is a world problem. Until we take back control of our own lives, it will keep getting worse. And who do we keep blaming? Big Business. BG scr*ws us over and the blame falls on Big Business. How did they manage that? If we hadn't given up our sovereignty to Big Government, Big Business would not be able to pull their strings.
This is NOT meant to be a political thread. I have no particular love for ANY political party. I'm only asking that whenever you hear a politician saying ANYTHING that takes personal freedoms away from you, vote them out. Remove their power. We have it within us to change this. It didn't happen all at once. It was incremental. It may be hard to destroy a mountain, but if you chip away at it, piece by piece, it will eventually become a pile of rubble.
Rant Off.
