I don't hear 'they are blowing themselves up with their devices' when it comes to legislation on vaping mainly because those making legislation are so uneducated about what vaping is that they have no clue that's an issue. They still need to be educated on the fact that an e-cig is not just an electronic combustion of tobacco with all the inherent dangers of a analog.
I suspect that there will come more regulation on the commercial device maker if those start causing problems for the retail buyer but as for the homebuilder of powerful mods its less likely to be much more then a side (or distracting) issue for now. If anyone steps up with the idea that home made mods are a danger to society regulating that or making vaping illegal because of it is pretty far out there considering most of what is used in the mod is used in so many other things its not likely that they can ban the building parts like they do gun adaption supplies.
I think it all comes down to money. The federal government isn't going to outlaw or over regulate a growing, untaxed industry, with tremendous revenue potential. The first thing that will happen is a tax on nicotine.
