Agreed. Do you know how hard it is to discipline an ADHD child with a time out chair? :nah:

While I never took either of my boys over my knees, I had no problem administering a good smack across the behind when absolutely needed - even in public.

I can sympathize 100 percent with having a child with ADHD.

You almost have to go over the top creatively sometimes to get their attention.

Like the time I caught my son for the third time playing his Nintendo DS at 1am.

I smashed it to pieces with a hammer right in front of him.

And before I get a ton of flack from uber left leaning parents, my son had a severe video game addiction which is common with kids with ADD, ADHD. So much so that he couldnt have a normal conversation with anyone without trying to make the conversation completely about video games. Half the time no one knew what the hell he was talking about.

Even me and I'm a gamer.

That started his road to recovery but ultimately we had to ground him from playing ANY video games for an entire year.

Because we love him.

I use the term "whoop" but in reality my almost teenager hasnt been "whooped" since a single pop on the hand or thigh stopped working. I threaten "whoop" but its a pop,a single pop,on the back of the hand or thigh for my pressing 4 yr old. I forget no one here knows me and i didnt mean it literally. Then again im sure some may think thats just as terrible.
My preteen knows, because i have let him know about every time i want to smoke. Ive explain what its like trying to stop. How cranky i feel. Of course he knows how bad it is for you but i want him to know how addicting it is too and how that works. He forgets things pretty fast unless its drilled in,so i nag (actually needed) but i dont "whoop em" Now nagging can push them away too,but i have to do it. My son is also autistic,so things fade for him fast if its not repeated,so ive turned into a nagging women, thats as violent as i gets around here.

I used to give my son a little cuff on the side of the head -- not enough to hurt *at all*, but enough to get his attention -- till he was 16-17 yrs old. Except one time when he yelled right into my face -- that earned him a real slap in the face, and I said, "got your attention didn't I? Yell into my face again and you'll get the same thing until you learn not to do that." But he never did it again, because apparently I DID get his attention. :D

But my feelings about hitting children come from own experience -- everytime my mom got mad at me, I'd get a slap, somewhere on my person -- I wore her handprint for years. To me, hitting a child when you're angry qualifies as authentic abuse. When our son was 4-5, we came upon 2 occasions when we actually needed to give him a belt whipping -- 3 stripes on his bottom -- because literally *nothing* else worked -- and we made sure that we weren't angry at the time we administered those stripes. But after that... all we had to say was "do we need to get the belt?" and he was INSTANT compliance. But after he got into his teens... depriving him of TV/Playstation was FAR!!! more effective discipline. ;)

The times they have been "popped" only when i have like "stop" and "dont" 100 times already, lol. Its never been, they did something and i found out later, its in that moment i can swear they were just ignoring me. Ya its to get their attention, for me.
The worse thing i did, that i hate, but still feel it was a necesary evil,my oldest (the preteen) Hadnt cleaned his room before going to the video games. I told him several times already,so i went to take the controller out of his hands. To make him clean before the stupid games. Well he thought he was tuffer than i. His chest was puffed up and he had the "im gonna kick your a@@ face. LOL I ask him if he reeeeally wanted it back that bad with a smile and he stepped up with that body bumping stupid stuff i remember from school, the before the fight dance is what i would call it,lol. I did NOT hit him still but he grabbed it and wrestled mostly with himself of course and finally i just knocked him off it and pushed him on his ..... Then i told him,"if you thought i was just a girl you are sadly mistaken, and if you want to try and hit me,know this...i do NOT hit like a girl and will never have to argue about brushing your teeth again cos im going to knock em out" lol I think its been about a year now and he gets mad still but he remembers momma knocking his .... on the floor.

Don't really care about the age We all know dame well if thy won't to smoke thy will no matter what dad and mom says our do I would rather have my son vape over smoke and if I found him smoking I would take him right to a vape shop and set him up with a safe mod much better then having his buddy make home something that cud blow up on him.
