Well,

I received my sampler about a week ago. All vials are still not green. I recycled 2 of the bottles because they are so convenient to take to work. I only did that yesterday.

Because of the the above comments, I rinsed them (including droppers) with 99% alcohol. We will see what developes (or not as the case may be)

So some batch's allegedy got messed up. (1) They are going to report on the problem once they get the lab results back, (2) they are refunding anyone that had a problem, (3) the problem affected a very very small percentage their product, (4) noone reported getting sick from the problem--Does anyone think China manufactures would be on it and make good if this happened to their e-liquid?? Do you think you could even get a hold of anyone in China to see what happened?? So I think we should give them a break here. I use their product all the time and have ten 30 ml bottles here with no problems so it appears to be an isolated incident. They are making good faith inquiry and they are responding. What else could we all ask for???????????

This is what happens to Chinese manufactures that make people sick. Could be a bit harsh?

Have not been able to access the forum for a few days like some others but I found a story this week and I figure it deserves to go in this thread.

A New Jersey councilman seeing the fountain in his city had frozen due to the harsh winter decided to add propylene glycol to the water to keep it running as we all know, PG acts as an antifreeze. Well guess what -The water turned green !

I think this lends weight to JC's theory that the their liquid must have travelled through a cold patch and that this is what caused the discolouration.

My sampler bottles, the ones I never used, were in an otter box to keep my cats away from them. A couple were green when I looked the other day. I emailed, was satisfied with the prompt answer and they taste fine... other then they are flavors I don't care for. I can't see the stuff once it's in the cart :)

Anxiously awaiting the report from JC, but the fountain article got me thinking. Please follow this link and read the paragraph about DowFrost (Inhibited Propylene Glycol).

Solar Heat Transfer Fluid - Technical Note

When used in solar heating systems PG has to be chemically "inhibited" to keep it from reacting with stuff (mainly copper). Dow markets the inhibited PG as Dowfrost. Turns out if you accidently boil it, it produces black sludge. Also if the inhibitor fails it turns green.

I'm not suggesting that JC is using this stuff. I am suggesting that PG reacts with things (copper) naturally and has to be chemically altered to prevent it.

Wonder if anyone ever thows pennies in that fountain?

interesting find jaaxx. There would be a good chance that the pipes in the fountain are copper.

Another problem observed only with inhibited propylene glycol is the presence of particulate in the glycol, e.g., green in colour with Dowfrost HD, which is due to elements in the inhibitor/buffer package coming out of solution. This does not mean that the glycol has failed, but the particles may clog a strainer/filter if one is in the glycol-charged collector loop.

The last paragraph might explain why some people have reported seeing black specks in their carts:

This causes high solar collector temperatures on hot, sunny days and this, over a period of time, causes a breakdown in the glycol. It may become black (carbon particles) and/or very acidic. The black particles can accumulate at a bend or crevice in the collector loop and cause blockage of flow

I wanted to post an excerpt from an email (during one of my many varied conversations with Christian at JC) on the status of the lab testing for the mysterious "turning green" issue.

"At any rate, the lab we hired to do the tests came back and changed the completion date to 3/2/09 - which I felt to be ridiculous. So, we've hired someone else and knowing for a fact that it usually only takes about 3 weeks or so, it should be done by 2/8."

I offer this as an update and do not wish to debate others innuendo's, suspicion's or the like. I'm simply trying to keep others informed from the information that is passed on to me through those communiques.

I just had a 30ml bottle of PG peach cobbler turn green on me today after owning it for nearly a month. It was the regular color, until I decided to use the dropper from the bottle to mix my own juice (as for some reason I can't find a dropper in ANY local stores). The JC turned green within an hour of my mixing. The contaminants were: Lorann apple flavor, usp grade glycerin, and possibly a bit of saliva because some part of me really wanted a drop of straight apple flavor on my tongue. I did rinse it lightly in regular tap water before re-inserting it in the JC bottle. Within an hour or less the contents of the bottle had turned a much greener hue. My guess is this has something to do with contamination, either from contact with carts, or some other source.

Hopefully we'll get some lab results soon *crosses fingers*

I ordered 2 sample packs, plus 2 flavors in 30 ml. -- a tobacco for hubby, and menthol/mint for me -- and we've had them a little over a month. (They came in the clear glass bottles.) Out of all of these bottles, none have turned green except for my menthol/mint, which I noticed over the weekend. It is 1/2 gone... and green or not, I'm still vaping away on it. Hopefully "I" won't turn green! ;)

I think contamination could be a big issue regardless of what eventually is discovered. I think it would be wise to never let the dripper tip touch anything like the cartridge fluff, the mouthpiece, the atomizer housing, your fingers, other concoctions etc. Saliva is a seriously bacteria laden substance!! 8-o

(sorry, I couldn't resist)

There are still plenty of other theories to explore that make sense and I guess we'll be finding out soon what it was. It's still a good idea to keep bacteria at bay by exercising a little care. :D

I would also imagine "tap" water will introduce an assortment of contaminants as well as your flavour enhancers and glycerin's, including the fluoride and/or chlorine concoctions if your local water adds that.

I also want to mention that I have not heard back from Christian at JC yet regarding the lab results. Or on any of my other communications as of late.

I think they have been overwhelmed with their testing and release of the Kona juice. As well, I also think the influx of new interest and customer orders our devices have recently taken are exceeding all suppliers current set ups ability to meet the demands.

The minute I get any results (I'll keep harping him), I'll be sure to post the findings here.

Greg
