First time here in a few years, so hello again everyone. Time to ask some questions!

I purchased a IStick 40W TC battery and a Kanger Subtank Nano. I got two sets of coils; 1 set of .15 Ni TC and 1 set of .5 regular or whatever you all call them now :)

Anyway, I like the TC, I find around 480 degrees nice. However, I find it makes me cough a lot and doesn't produce a whole bunch of vapor.

With the .5 coils, the taste is not as pronounced, but is overall fine, and I can vape it more comfortably. Vapor production is average I would say.

I run almost all VG juice... its about 75/25 VG/PG 9MG

My questions are: is there any kind of notable 'break in' period for TC stuff where you can get used to it? To days was all I could handle. And, how do I produce more vapor with this setup?

it shouldnt have a break in. however, it sounds like the TC on your istick isnt doing as it should, seeing as 480* shouldnt give you coughing and minimal vapor =P

I run my VS DNA40 at 480* and 25W. Vapes liek a champ and never get a dry hit.
I use the same nickle coils in my subtank mini aswell, and I use Thumper (which although we have no idea what the PG/VG is of it, its a very thick juice none the less)

its possible it might just be a bad coil too. Nickle is very fickle about its builds and if not done right it will vape like garbage

hope it helps!

Somewhere
couple of things that could be happening.
In TC Mode.

I suspect it is too high a NIC. 9 Mg is way high for sub ohm.
on a .5 coil, is harsh as hell for me.
I now have to sit around 3mg or less, more like 1.5 or 2mg

Bad Coil or not saturated enough
Too High degree
or, your ramp up time is too low,, set your Wattage a little higher
I have the IPV 3 Li VR and it goes by Joules, if I set it too low, it does nothing.
40 Joules at 390F works for me.

It might also help to watch this video

I vape 18mg unflavored %100VG on my 'subohm' TC tanks almost exclusively - high nicotine or PG can seem "harsh" with higher vapor production. Until recently I had a STM with 0.22ohm nickel coil build almost 'live' on a TC40W. (IMHO) A very nice combo.

While the firing wattage on the TC40W is NOT adjustable in TC mode not getting much vapor production makes me wonder if the set/locked resistance is close to what is printed on the side of it and how well the Ni coil was primed.

When switching tanks/coils on the TC40W you really need to see the "new coil?" (whatever) message otherwise it will continue to use whatever resistance of the LAST tank/coil you had mounted. Once you get the message and answer YES, press the up+fire button at the same time to lock the resistance in.

I vape on STM's mounted to a TC40W at anything between 380-460F, the newer STM has more airflow wide open that I need/want/like so I have the air flow dialed down a bunch.
