BTW - Have you got some Plain Old 26ga and 24ga Stainless Steel Wire ordered?
Yes, about two weeks ago, but when I checked my orders this week it still wasn’t shipped because one of the two spools wasn’t in stock (although, when I had ordered, it should have been). Now it’s shipped, but still in Asia, that’s why I went to the vape shop yesterday, but they only had the Clapton wire. Just before, I actually unwound a few inches of it to build myself a simple SS coil lol.

I just now learned about TCR, it was completely new to me. Yes, I guess you’re right, I probably could have used or fine tuned a TCR for this particular coil. Now it’s too late, I’ve installed another coil, but it’s good to know what TCR means... ;)

TCR for SS316 is usually set at 88 to 92. You can vary it to suit your taste. I use 92 for SS316L. TCR (temperature control resistance) helps the TC logic determine how to read the resistance of the coil and adjust the temperature based on resistance change as the coil heats up and cools down.

You may already know that. Chiming in just in case.

Good Deal.

Exotic Multi-Wire Coils are Cool to Look at. And some Like them better than Plain Old Single Wire Coils (POSWC). But they can have Downsides.

And life can be Simpler (sometimes) when one just uses a POSWC.

For me, a coil reduced to its simplest form is easier to deal with. I like the flavor and vapor I get from a single coil at 10W. It's interesting seeing the complex coils that some enjoy. Whatever floats your boat ... :)

I’m still new at coil building, but so far I can’t say that I would be able to tell a complex from a simple coil in a blind test. I only bought the wire because I needed SS wire and it was the only spool the had...

A single coil wrap is the simplest. Dual coils come next. Claptons fall into the complex classification. Some people wind vertical coils. Past that the coil designs start to get really complex.

Check out this link for some bad boy coil designs!

Sorry to .... in but would the Replay mode on the new dna mods be able to handle the op's type of issue? Just curious, tx.
Absolutely! But the OP's mod can't do replay which you know now. But yes, Replay does away with setting TCR, mod resistance, atty resistance, etc. which all can affect TC.

I don't think that TC is overly finicky. I have had very good luck using it. Any issues I have had have usually been because of the coil not being spaced or the wicking not being good. I have used Clapton coils but don't usually and they worked fine.
Well, as I’ve said before, it works fine now with simple ss316 coils, so the problem was definitely with the coil. Are you saying that TC should work with Claptons as long as they’re spaced coils? Because my two simple coils are both contact coils (I have two atomizers), and there’s no problem with TC.

Yes I used SS Claptons that were spaced and they worked fine in TC. Usually even single wire contact coils cause issues
Hmm...maybe I haven't noticed then: Since I've started using TC about 2 weeks ago, all of my coils have been contact coils, and apart from the Claptons, it seemed to work fine, I have set the temperature between 200-220 C on both of my mods (Pico 75 and VT inbox DNA 75), and the vapour always feels just right. What kind of issues should I be looking out for?

Uneven temperatures. If resistance changes because something touching jumps or it was jumping when locked in and then doesn't that's read as something happening that really isn't happening.
That is why I asked if you burned them in very well.

I think some think a coil strand heating next to another strand throws it off but I don't think it works like that.

The resistance varies somewhat the first few days, f. ex. I had to set a new base value for the coil resistance this morning, because at first the vapor was too hot at the temperature I had used it yesterday. Unfortunately, in my RTA, I don’t really have a choice: the deck is so small that I can only fit 5-wrap coils, so if I wanted to install a spaced coil, it would be a 3-wrap coil. I have serious doubts that this is better than a contact coil.
