lorderos - can you post links to what batteries are recommended? I see red AW IMR, orange AW IMR, .... all different kinds.
For someone who has used only GLVs, this battery stuff is confusing. Sorry ....
I use a bunch of different mods...but I have always stayed with AW IMR's because of the vendor recommendation.... until now:oops: .... I ordered the AW IC Protection Built-In.....uh?? a 2-bit protection circuit as lorderos says...LOL...I was seeking larger mAh ..and may be i goofed...so yes lorderos....please advise this nincompoop and my friend Blu :)

I think that really depends on the camp you are in. Some people have complete faith in the $2 circuit that is attached to the battery being a reliable failsafe. I personally think the IMR is safer because it is a safe chemistry battery, not a LiIon battery with an overload protection circuit attached that could fail under a number of circumstances. I used the AW 2900 MAH protected batteries for a while and never had anything go wrong with them, but I feel safer with the IMR than with the protected cell because as we all know there is an inherent failure rate with any electronic device and that would include a protection circuit.

In my Katana, I use ONLY AW IMR the 18650 with a magnetic spacer in the long tube and the 18350 with the shorter tube. Same thing in my Hybrid Mini, Provari and SSGGTS. In my GLV3 mini I use AW rcr-123 protected's because that is what came with it when I purchased it from Great Lakes Vapor. With all the Genisis mods I own, the GLV is only used when I know the going may get really rough because even though it uses chinese attys, it is tough as nails and I won't get as upset if it gets dinged up like I would if one of my other mods got damaged :)

Frankly, the reputation of IMRs as completely safe is a bit of a fallacy. True, the manganese is "safe" chemistry in that, when shorted, the battery shouldn't vent flames. However, a short with no fuse is going to drastically heat up whatever is conducting it... The atomizer glows red hot with resistance in the circuit. A short heats up a lot more. Don't do this, but if you were to touch a copper wire to both terminals, it would quickly surpass 800°C (1500°F).

This was reported to be an IMR:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ures-serious-battery-failure-imr-18650-a.html

Don't get me wrong, the IMR are great batteries, and in smaller sizes, the only ones that can really keep up with the demand we put on them in ecigs. However, there are posts all over with people thinking that IMR are completely risk free, and that's simply untrue.

As far as the scoop on batteries, IMR (a.k.a "high drain") batteries can output a lot more sustained current. Sustained current, however, is relative to battery capacity, so with bigger batteries such as the 18650, even the relatively cheap batteries have sufficient output. Note, however, that some of the protection circuits kick in around 2.5 amps, which means you're flirting with their cutoff point with less than around 1.7Ω. For 18650, I use the AW Protected 18650 3100 mAh. They're not cheap, but are protected ICR with monster capacity (I charge mine for my provari every 2 days).

Here's another post I made with more details:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...5727-pictures-your-setup-123.html#post4960261

FWIW, I use RTDVAPOR.com for most all of my battery needs (coupon ECF5 for 5% off).

I'm by no means the authority on the subject... there are some battery wizards in these forums that have gone into much greater detail.

I ordered from two sources

Lighthound...i also ordered the 2900mAh batteries here ..... shipping may be more than the magnets value if you don't purchase more stuff...........I have received 8 magnets and like them...they will be handy little buggers

Magnetic Spacer - 1.6mm

and

eBay

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

the eBay are larger diameter for use in a VMOD-XL ....they should fit perfect in it...no clue how they would work in a Katana

I will receive 50 so if you want a couple after they arrive I'll mail them to you.....I adore those forever stamps :) PM me :p

Ok, I am going with the AW Black label 2900 mah ......
Hmm ... I wonder if that will last me a day? ..... LOL
Thanks for finding that for us Kami!

To answer four earlier question, the red and orange IMRs are in fact both the same as someone else posted. I personally use the AW IMRs on everything but my GLV. They are capable of providing more power at any given time and honestly, they outperform the black 2900 MAH cells but don't last quite as long. When I say outperform, I mean they are able to provide more power and subsequently better vapor than the 2900 MAH cells. The IMR cells are also substantially cheaper than the protected cells.

I am not saying tht the black protected batteries are a bad choice, just that the AW IMRs are a better choice in my experience with Genisis mods.

I've got a couple of the newer AW Black IC 3100's and let me tell ya these things have some seriously long run times, the IMR may hold 4+ Volts longer but I'm not even sure about this considering the mAh difference 1600 vs 3100 I'll have to check the charts on run times, and I'm an IMR guy but these newer 3100's are a nice Batt, I'Ve also got a few of the Readilast 3100's and there right there with the AW3100'S as well, both are some seriously great Batts, and yes the 3100's are the same size as the 2900's and fit most gear we use. Now also looking into the new Callie Kustoms Batts in there IMR's too, they have an IMR 2250mAh that uses the newest Panasonic technology.

Nominal Voltage : 3.6V
Capacity : 3100mAH ( rated at 0.2C discharge 4.2V - 2.5V @ 25℃ )
Operating Temp. : Charge 0 to 45℃ / Discharge -20 to 60 ℃
Recommended Charge Rate : max. 2170mA ( 0.7C ) - ambient temp. 25 ℃
Max. Discharge Rate : 6.2A ( ambient temp. 25 ℃ )
Dimensions :18.50 X 68.16mm ( +/- 0.3mm )

IMR18650 Specifications :

Also another power cell that looks like it is well worth looking into is the Calli kustoms here = http://callieskustoms.com/CalliesKustoms-Batteries.html Note there IMR 2250 AS WELL, LOOKS like a very good sell as do some of the other Callie Kustoms These are the same Panasonic power cell Technology that AW & Redilast use
