Hey guys! Did my first microcoil on the KFL. pulls 1.11 on like 9/10. first cotton wick was super tasty but too thick and wicking suffered from pinching - so it burned, and tasted like burning trash lol.

made one much smaller and it hasn't burned - but the flavor is fairly muted and cotton-y. Coil perhaps too far off the air hole?

Pretty underwhelmed with flavor so far. :/

The biggest thing with cotton/micro coils, is getting the amount of cotton right.

Thanks, Rule62.

I figure I just need to tinker some more. Thankfully the coil is great; I just need to dial in the wick!

It's tough to describe, even through pictures. It's kind of a 'feel' thing. I like mine a little fluffy. I don't roll the cotton tight. Just enough to hold a shape, very lightly. I like some resistance, when I pull it through the coil. Not so much that I have to yank on it. But not so that it slides through with no resistance either.
This one is about right, for me

hey guys as you know I am constantly doing different configurations for my k-lite, the latest one is amazing, although I am still fine tuning it. it is similar to my double vertical coil I use but this only has one vertical coil and is placed directly over the air hole. with this coil you cannot wick through it because it would block air flow, instead the cotton is wrapped around the coil. I remember gdeal did one with a custom ceramic wick in the k-lite and looked interesting so tried it with a regular micro coil. it really is just like a carto configuration where the coil is in the cotton. the difference in this set-up is the air flow comes right up through the coil, and this is producing the most vapor out of the k-lite then any other coil I have done with equal flavor too. I just have to fine tune the way in which the cotton is wrapped around it with the tails down to the channels. I have done it fairly good for now, but it needs some improvement because I cannot chain vape it right now but maybe after a slight break in I will.

I use a Provari so subohm doesn't work for me. That's why I use 30ga and you're correct...they settle in at 1.8 omhs. That's a 10 wrap with 2mm (5/64) ID. I would kind of like to use 28 ga for the reasons you suggest.

I also have a provari and use 30ga. I've tried 28ga but it takes a long time for the coil to heat up and when it does, it seems too hot. Maybe it's because the coil gets too wide when targeting 1.3-1.4Ω. That's about 11-12 wraps on a 1/16" drill bit and comes to about 3.5mm wide. With a 30ga, the width of my coil is about 3mm or lower. I know some people have great builds with 28ga and a vv but I haven't found it. Maybe 28ga is better for a mech with less wraps? Anyway, I just got my 29ga which I will try out later today.

I use 10 wraps of 28g on my Provari as my regular build. 1.2 ohms.

im with rule 62 here, when and if I do a set-up on my provari , I use the 28g for resistances between 1.3 to 1.4 and have no issues. what im thinking is the coil may not be perfectly tight, if you have a separation in the coil the leads can glow to the screws which may cause the extra heat, its just a guess though. next time keep the whole coil tight and just make a separation mid-way, this slight separation, along with pulling out a little bit of the cotton wick reduces the extra heat a little. also you can pull the cotton all the way through the crack and run 2 wick tails for each side of the coil.

I learned that from your 2nd KFL build video and is definitely on my list of things to try along with the dual vertical coils. I've never seen my leads glow on the KFL but it is possible (happened with my igo-l build). If anything, part of the last wrap on both ends of my coil don't glow as the rest of the coil. Thanks for the advice.

I think you should stop experimenting with coils and getting great results. It's hard to catch up lol :p. Definitely post pics up when you get a chance.

I sure did. I got the same resistance the vapers toolbox android app said I should get. Do you have a multimeter to doibke check?

Yes, I do have a multimeter. I just took apart my Kayfun and it is drying out. I'll check it later today and report back.

Multimeter Measurement: 30ga Kanthal, 10 wraps, 2.0 mm ID.

2.3ohms minus 0.4 ohms inherent in the multimeter = 1.9ohms.

Exactly what my Provari and VAMO are telling me.

kinda off topic but, when you're vaping using variable wattage does it matter what the ohms of you coil are? i vape around 9.5 watts most the time and have had coils rangeing from 1.2 - 2.2 .... and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

That's the beauty of VW. Set your wattage and the mod will adjust the voltage accordingly. Doesn't matter what your resistance is from atty to atty. The mod does the work.

The bad thing about vw is that you can't go past 15 watts.. I like 20 watts..

I usually wrap my coil at .9

Dna20 mods do 20 watts

They're expensive right now and there's no point in getting a vw. I think it's better if you get better at making coils cause I'm usually proud of my coils and how they hit..

Takes practice to get what you want
