Here's the one twisted I've done. 3 strands of 31ga. It's still installed, but I've since removed a few wraps so it heats up quicker. It works well, better flavor than a single 31ga but I still prefer just a single 28ga micro.

I twisted using vice grips. Clamped the three wires down then spun the hanging vice grips. Kind of fun, flicked it like a top and have it spin. I figured it was good enough when the hanging vice grip broke off lol.

It is done. Just ordered a black and decker cordless drill off ebay's daily deal. You guys should have seen the gf roll her eyes. :D

Super excited about trying out proper twisted coils on my kfl. What's most people using? With my hand twisted coil, I got 1.1 ohms with double 30ga, 8 wraps on a 1/16 drill bit. Coil was slower to fire up than what I would have liked though. Wondering if increasing the number of strands increases or decreases the resistance per length; im trying to get 1.3 ohms while keeping the coils to not be too long; I find that I get a better vape when my coils extend less beyond the diameter of the air hole.

Oh my god, a single coil RDA with no juice well?!?! That's a fossil now! Keep dat antique goin brotha!

You've inspired me to try a 3 strand wrap... I too always find myself going back 1 single 28g kanthal micro, but only on my kayfun, if it's a dripping atomizer, duals all the way, everytime.

Shoot, I got a dozen of those small drippers with two posts. Igo-S, A6, ERA, Cyclone.. nothing I've tried gives better flavor. Single 28ga Kanthal, 1ohm, sterile rolled cotton.. simplicity that hits my sweet spot for a perfect vape.

I also leave the airhole as it comes, no drilling. It's funny watching someone take a vape off my set-up.. that lung hit isn't going to work here lol.

For the 3 strand 31ga twisted, at 9 wraps it's at 0.89ohm and heats up as well as a single 28ga at 1ohm. The way it's pictured was a little above 1.2ohm, and was slow to heat up on a mech. So with 3 strands of 31ga I'd suggest going sub-ohm a little.

Lol, you can use your spare mechanical mod batteries to make a decent battery pack replacement for those cheap harbor freight nicad battery packs. Let's see, 1.2V per cell, 18V pack, 15 cells per pack. Hmm no wonder they don't last and are so big, bulky and heavy. They don't even offer replacement battery packs for the cordless rotary tool they offer. OTOH, it was on sale for $15 when I bought it. Guess if all you ever want it for is twisting Kanthal, you'd be OK with their offerings.

More on topic. Seeing these twisted builds has me curious. For the folks who like it, do you just twist 2 strands or do you prefer more?

This is basically the kit I bought about 8 years ago -
    Amazon.com: Milwaukee 2694-24 M18 18-Volt 4-Tool Cordless Combo Kit: Home Improvement

I got it when they offered a 3 battery charging station as a free bonus with the kit.

The three 18v batteries are still going strong and I use them with the worklight almost every night.
It stands in place and I can aim the beam where I want - very useful

I use the drill at least once/month, more in the Spring/Summer.
I've used the sawzall about 10 times and the circular saw a few times.
I have a corded P-C circ saw that makes the battery powered one essentially a toy.
