OK so I'm a light weight low watter (is that even a word ;) ) Not only that I often dilute my juice with unflavored because I find the flavoring rudely strong.
I'm really happy with the results, no urge to smoke. I happy enough to have three more Russians on the way.
I'd say if you are undecided just do it. For me the difference between this and a Aspire nautilus is at least an order of magnitude. I expect as the wattage goes up build details become more important. I am doing the wicks up the chimney and trim and I've had nothing but great results, no leaks, burnt hits, flooding, nada no problems. Just awesome vapor.
It's nice to know that should problems arise the experts here spare no effort i helping. :D

Woofer -- don't let those high wattage "bullies" push you around. Geez, just a little while ago they were all touting less cotton for the wicks, and now they are going vertical on wattage. What will be next?? 10% water in the juice??

My name is horton and I am proud to be a low wattage vaper. That's all I have to say now........

Yeah that's what I do too. Wet. Trim. Press against deck.

Then screw on cylinder, and then check to make sure the wick didn't get messed up. Imo a far superior way of doing it than trimming after the cylinder is on

edit: I meant to say trim then wet lol

Yes I'm also not a wick up clipper, with the bottom chimney first kind of guy. I have always trimmed and placed on ledge and then screw on chimney base, just like these photos

Ain't 7 - 9 watts nice? :toast: Batteries last a good day with moderate use, fewer problems with dry hits, and women think low wattage vapers are really hot (OK, I made that one up)
I'm just glad the vaping industry is able to offer pretty much everyone their choice of how they want to vape. Would be pretty dull if we all were stuck at 5 watts!!

LOL! I've tried just about every build setup at every power setting on every kind of device. I prefer single coil in the 7 - 9 watt range. Don't know why. I never ask. Don't know if that makes me more of a man or less of a man. Doesn't matter cuz I proved my manhood years ago. It's just what I like. :)

With my new ZNA clone I had to raise the ohms in my Kayfuns from 1.8 to 2.5 just to be able to use it. I used to burn them at 5-6 watts with my other PV's that had lower watt levels. With the ZNA, I tried using 32g kanthal, 6 wraps at 2.5ohms and it was ok. Tonight I will be trying 30g with 10 wraps at 2.5ohms. Thats the lowest ohms I can use at 7watts. Hoping for a little better flavor. I vape at 7-9 watts also. Any higher won't work for me.

I think my problem with high wattage stuff comes from being an electronics repair tech for the last 30 years....

When you fix schtuff thats broken all day you get tired if looking at it 1 and 2 I've seen the aftermath of too many "magic smoke " releases.

The draw to the RTA's for me has always been the percentage of dud coils and carto's out of the box.

I'm on third build on this Kayfun Lite...Have learned a lot from this thread and appreciate the info.

(28 ga Nichrome 8 wraps that has settled at 1.4 ohms on Japanese cotton and loving life.)

I can understand that.

I wanted more control over the experience AND I was having trouble finding the right heads for my Smok attys... took one look at the cost difference between RTA's and buying heads and about fell over in shock... I was prepared to spend more money for the benefit of better control and less reliance on heads, shocked when cost was the other way around.

I still need to go from the start to the end of this thread... but I have learned a ton from this board in general.

So,... THANK YOU ECF POSTERS for not just lurking and keeping the info to yourselves!

I still don't get the high wattage vapers. I tried up to 20w and other than a warmer vape, which I don't like, and shorter battery life, there's not much difference. I vape a 1.5-1.8 coil at 6-7w on my Istick so about 8-9w RMS. I change my coils way more than I should but usually just change the wick and a dry burn cleans them right up and work like new again.

The last few days, I've been trying out a ErlK clone and it's great but burns through juice way faster than my KF's. I have a KFL+v2 (Infinite) and another ErlK clone inbound from Focalecig. I haven't seen any other tanks I want to try out but I need (yes, need) a few more but I'm waiting for the new version.

Well... in general, I like a cool vape... and actually you CAN get a cool vape at higher watts... it's about air-flow. A major difference is with the flavor of the juice, it can literally change at higher watts. Some might say 'you are doing it wrong', but I don't think there is a 'wrong' way to enjoy yourself. I have tried out the higher watts up to around 50W and I'm just waiting to make my next box mod purchase.

At the end of the day, it's about enjoying yourself... if you are doing that, then you are winning!

I also wanted to get away from cartos after 3 of 4 Vea cartos were dead out of the box. $10 for 3 and each usually don't last more than 2-3 days w/o a LOT of degradation in vape quality. I knew the initial investment into RBA's were more expensive but the on-going cost is dirt cheap. And I'm much more satisfied. I started with Blu and Vea e-cigs from Johnson Creek initially over 2 yrs ago but it just didn't cut it and I went back to analogs (along with those ecigs) for about 9 months. I'm positive I won't be relapsing again with RBA's and RDA's. I find it fun and relaxing doing a rebuild too.

I'm fairly new to this (~3 months) but I have an addictive personality and I try to learn as much as I can about it (the nerd/geek in me). I tried almost everything I've read about and I might just have cheap juice or my sense of taste is down the crapper from 30+ yrs of smoking but I found very little difference. I thought I was one of a very few that vaped at low watts with a RBA.

And all this is definitely gonna keep me off analogs.

I vape mostly at 12w which is my sweet spot but I do understand high wattage vapers...

1.You can get the same amount of vapor in your lungs in a fraction of the time. You basically stop sucking on your mod as if it were a pacifier and start to mimic a normal puff from a cig.

2. You get much more nic from higher watts so it can feel more satisfying.

3. The flavor changes on high watts. Sometimes it improves a lot and you can taste subtle notes you weren't able before. Sometimes it tastes like crap though.

4. Much higher vapor production... Can be more satisfying inhaling and also to try to impress your friends

That being said. I still prefer 12 watts through the day with the ocasional puff at 25-30w when I want a quick nic fix.

Tony

@KTMRider... I am pretty much in the same boat with you regarding time in to vaping, only about 20 years as a smoker though... and my smell/taste have been coming back like wildfire. I'm going to venture a guess that it's simply the juice you are trying. I found big differences with juices from Space Jam, Tarot Labs and quite a few others. I notice is primarily the complex juices that continue to be complex and change with the higher wattage.

I say higher wattage, but that might not be the right way to describe it... I'm actually talking about lower resistance coils, creating more vapor with more air while at higher wattage. I don't want to make it sound like it's just one variable that's been changed all the time, but even when I put the same coil on at higher watts, I notice a difference... but I'm always changing the airflow... and I'm generally lung hitting given the airflow change, so I guess even then it's not a single variable :)

I love that there is so much customization and tweaking/tinkering available in vaping... and that people (such as my mom) can also easily buy an internal battery mod and be quite happy as they are.

I wish I had friends who were impressed with vapor production... :( Well, on second thought I'll keep the ones I got, but it wouldn't hurt. :)

I haven't noticed the nic performance change though,... I have heard of this from many people and a lot of the juices that I think taste better at 'higher watt conditions' only seem to come in lower NIC (so I bump them up), but I haven't felt the effects yet.

Oh I just grab a couple of trainees and ask them which wattage produces more vapor and I puff away... They always say wow, uh, that's so awesome, blah blah blah.

I know deep down they're just trying to please me but hey, if you can't impress your friends, get some fake ones :D

That's what is great about the kayfun you can vape it from low wattage up to about 20 watts.

Whatever you like no right or wrong

I do get all day and night about 3 refills on my kayfun using a hana mod clone and throw on usb charger before bed. One 18650 3100 mah battery never has been dead before I go to bed. 1.3 ohm at 15 watts
