Are guys cleaning/washing the KFL right out of the package...is it needed..?

Like most of the others, I did. Probably not, but it only takes a few minutes.

Also, do I need to "torch" the Kanthal (wire) before I wrap the coil....or can I do this via igniting it with the battery, or so to say.

You don't need to. But it does seem to help the coil keep its shape. I "torch" with a lighter - just run it slowly down the length of wire I'm going to coil, making sure all of it has turned orange along the way. I also pre-wind my coils on a nail, then mount and dry burn before threading my wick through.

So what do you think of the lite guys? Is it worth getting if I don't already have the 3.1 es? Or should I spend the extra $ and get the 3.1?
The 3.1 has air flow adjustment & is also a bit taller.. It is a personal choice. I like the draw of my 3 LITES. I guess if i wanted to adjust the air flow, i could put a piece of tape on the intake hole of my LITE and pop a smaller hole in the tape. But, i have no desire to, the LITE is perfect OEM for me. If you have the xtra $$ buy what ever you can afford. I spent all my vape $ on the LITE. I am not saying i dont use gennies daily. I also have ODY's. But the LITE is solid, no leaks & performs great every time. :2c:

I only have the Lite. Personally, it is so awesome, I would rather have 2 lites, than spend the extra cash for 1 regular Kayfun. If the airflow is something that really matters to you, maybe get the regular one.

My other rationale for buying the lite over the 3.1 was the lite also has less parts and it is easier to build. I'm still a novice at RBAs, so the KF 3.1 seemed to be a bit more than I felt I could take on.

that looks sweet but the fact that the KFL appears brass must be because of reflection off you mod right? looks cool.

heh yah. a lot of warm tone reflecting, plus white balance being out of whack. The finish is beautifully machined stainless steel. thanks :)

    Excellent, thanks.

Can you share what gauge your using, and how many wraps on the coil for 0.9-1.2 and also, what are you using to size the coils... 1/16 ?

    Thanks qorax

I've done many types, all Kanthal though:
    - 32AWG 'twisted' (image below), 3/4 wraps, 0.9-1.0Ω, Silica
    - 30AWG, single, 4/5 wraps, 1.1-1.2Ω, Silica
    - 28AWG, single, 6/7 wraps, 1.2-1.3Ω, EkoW
    - 28AWG, micro on a toothpick, 9/10 wraps, 1.1-1.2Ω, Cotton

My current two KFLs are on those last two.

The Lite is also 'shorter' than the 3.1ES, by 9mm, or 91% if u may ;)

Thanks for the help guys! I think i will go for the lite! Can you vape pluid in the kayfun lite?
yes, but after 2 days the upper o-ring will swell & fail. My solution is a protank coil seal... I posted this a few days back. I vape pluid & grenada in my LITE. But now, recovering from knee surgery... gennie + ceramic, sitting at home. When i go out, the LITE is in my pocket.

Question: Is it possible that my cotton wick is too thin on my KFL?

That's right, tore it down again, and still the flavor seems to be muted. The vapor is out of control, but flavor just seems to be dull. Threw my Spheroid back on my Lux and it's perfect.

If you're not getting any dry hits from the cotton, then the thickness should be okay. It's possible it may be too tightly rolled. Normally I get problems with cotton if the wick is too thick, because it tends to expand a lot and can choke the coils. I always make the coil first then insert the cotton. If the cotton is too difficult to thread through the coil, I thin it out a little. You should be able to slide a new cotton wick into a coil with just a small amount of resistance. Another thought, is the wick positioned above the airhole correctly and not blocking the juice supply.

Don't know if any of this helps, I'm just winging it here :D

Normally, I almost get too much flavour from cotton, if that's possible.

Enormous amounts of vapor/flavor is exactly what I was getting, and the reason I became sold on the cotton setup to begin with. After some due diligence, I have come to the conclusion that I have been vaping the same flavor for a week SOLID, and it is time to change it up/refresh the palette.

Slight case of vapers tongue then. As long as you've managed to suss it out, that's the main thing. A bit of mint or menthol normally does the trick for me, or half a bottle of J.D.
