This looks brilliant! nicely done

you know I usually run 26g on a mechanical but wanted to see if I could sort of equal the vape on my provari. the other day I did a 28g around a 1/16 drill bit for a resistance of about 1.3Ω. although it wasn't bad it wasn't close to my .6 build with 26g on a mechanical. I then tried 27g and this coil design, its still not the same as my mechanical set-up but its kind of close. It just amazes me how these micro coils with thick gauge wire works on a vv device.

on this vertical coil that I just posted, it works very well, and I believe it produces a better flavor then the horizontal coil but I was finding it didn't wick quite as well as I wanted. when I just re-installed the wick I changed the wick a little from the photo. what I did was to isolate each coil with its own wick. each little coil now has a wick end in its own side channel. the wick now goes through the coil and the bottom tail is inserted into the juice, and the top tail is also in the juice. each juice well side now has two tails for each side. now the 2 separate little coils are not joined by a wick, there isolated with there own wicks. this improves the wicking by a mile and is now throwing out the vapor. I did try this coil with 28g and found it a little hard, it just was to hard to keep the coils from getting scrunched and loosing their shape.

I checked the o-ring in my KFL and it is bigger than the new one but not by much. I will try out the new o-ring and see what happens. BTW, the protank seal you're talking about is the white silicone piece that comes with the replacement coil head?

Ok, so I replaced my o-ring and it does not leak anymore. Although it still gets flooded, I can hear it when i draw and see liquid inside the air hole. So it's definitely an improvement but I guess I have to work on my wick placement.

I vape maybe 3 different flavors in my k-lite, caramel, grants vanilla custard and kona crème. I might have had another flavor in there as well, I think crème brulee. last week I also had a butterscotch in there for a day. anyways in the last few days I am noticing my plastic tank is now not clear anymore and under magnification looks like vertical scratches all around it. I never thought any of the juices I vape can create this.

That's exactly how I imagined it. Good job man!

thanks buddy. you know I have done a lot of variations with the k-lite, different coils, different placements of the coils and never had any leaking issues at all. I find it hard to believe that coil height can make it leak. I think your issue might have to do with some kind of oring fault or the way you fill it maybe

It's really frustrating when I hear nothing but success stories here and I'm having leaking issues. At least replacing the top small o-ring helped. When there's something that can go wrong when building things, I seem to do it lol. I'll check the other o-rings when I finish this tank. Thanks.

I don't generally run my mechanicals with genys at .6 ohm. Usually I'm at .8 or .9 with 28g. I build my Kayfuns at 1.2 ohm micros, on Provaris, and for me, they are just about comparable to the .8 or .9 genys on the mechanicals.

when I first got the k-lite I had filled it up from the bottom, tightened up the screw and was ready to vape. then for some reason I wanted to look inside the tank, I then unscrewed the top cap and quickly screwed it back on. this made the device leak constantly until I removed all the juice and refilled. from then on I haven't had an issue. because of the vacuum once the pressure is messed up it just doesn't work correctly. now I fill it up(only from the bottom) and vape it until its almost empty, I never top it off. I only fill from the bottom, and when I do the device is totally upside down, I fill it, replace the screw, and turn it right side up. im sure you do it the same so this might not be anything new. the only other time I get a little leak is when I prime the wick. when I install a new wick I drip a few drops on the wick before closing up the device, sometimes the drips go straight into the airhole so it leaks just a smidgen, but this is just for a second or so. the only other reason I could see it leaking is if your juice is super thin and isn't getting vaporized correctly, this then would drip straight into the airhole. what wire? what resistance? and what wattage do you do?

the comparison I have been making is with the k-lite at .65Ω with 26g on a mech compared to 28g on a vv at like 1.2 to 1.4Ω (like your set-up). its quite a difference, the vapor is thicker and vapor production is more with the .65 set-up. I then went to the 27g on the provari at 1.2ish with the vertical coil, to me it seemed closer to my .65 set up then the 28g horizontal. to me with the micro coils and a vv device you are no longer stuck with 30g wire, the micros open up the option to use a thicker wire which imo produces a better flavor.

What I have right now is 9 wrap, 30ga kanthal, 1.8Ω and 4.2v. I do actually fill it the way you described with a syringe + blunt tip. Anyway, here are the pics I posted earlier just to show how my wick looks. The coil in the pics are different than what I have now.

Yah, it's tricky to break it open mid-tank. A very key thing is the chimney tube seal at the top. If that seal gets broken, everything floods and it's hard to reel it all back in for a good seal, without draining it. That said, I have never had any leaks whatsoever under normal use. That includes laying it on its side. It's another thing I love about this atty.

it all looks pretty good to me. the only other thing I have read is maybe over filling the device can make it possibly leak. I always leave a good size air space when I fill and haven't had any issues, but maybe if its filled all the way up its possible it can leak. I know cotton wicks extremely well and at less then 10 watts maybe all your juice is not vaporizing? I doubt this and it could be a long shot but have you upped your voltage to lets say 5 volts? maybe at this wattage all the juice will not have a chance to fall through to the airhole(if that is indeed what is happening)

I agree, besides that first mishap when I first got it, I have had zero issues. except now I have a juice that is damaging my tank. I posted above what juices I am vaping, I never thought I owned a juice that can do this

Contrary to popular opinion, there really is no pressure or vacuum inside a Kayfun Lite. They have open air and juice channels, so neither the chamber nor the juice tank are really pressurized. The only vacuum created is when the user draws on the mouthpiece. This creates a differential, and juice is replenished to the wick as the vaporozed juice is drawn off. It is actually a supply and demand system; sort of like those self feeding water bowls people have for dogs. The hole is specifically sized so that as the dog drinks water, the level in the bowl lowers, and the tank replenishes the water to a specific level. In the Kayfun lite, the juice channels are carefully sized, so that the only time juice is fed to the coil is when the user draws it off. If the channels were larger, it would constantly flood. If they were smaller, the juice wouldn't be fed fast enough. That's why it's important not to cover the channels with the wick. It will result in dry hits. Conversely, if you remove the top cap, it would be the same as having the juice channels too large. The chamber will flood, because the level of the juice in the tank would equalize in the chamber.

playerone, looking at your wick I would have to say if anything, mine is slightly larger. the cotton in your pic might be slightly under sized. but if its wicking well its fine and I wouldn't worry about it. but just comparing it to what mine looks like after its been in a while, my tails are a bit larger in diameter

Awesome looking, but no better result than the mechanical single coil build...? I've been reading in the micro coil thread many of the guys are finding the same results....

How about the high end ceramic wicks, supposedly superior flavor and wicking and a virtually maintenance free (somewhat) build....could that be around the corner or something else....?

Both your builds are exciting guys....luv the intuition and brainstorming...keep it up. Its only gonna get better....

very true I definitely worded it wrong. maybe its possible that people having issues with leaking could have channels that are slightly deeper?

I think they're all pretty consistently manufactured. I more tend to think it has to do with over wicking, and leaking out of the juice hole, or, bad o rings, especially in the top cap. I have one right now that will seep a tiny bit of juice out the air hole. Oddly enough, it's the only one with a big conventional silica S wick. My other 4 have micro coil/cotton wicks, and don't leak a bit.

definitely a single coil mechanical build is better then anything on a vv device. the only reason for this build is for people that have a vv device and want to get more flavor out of it. no matter what build I do on my provari it cannot match the low resistance build on a mechanical mod. as for the ceramic wick? I started the fc-2000 thread back in feb. I used it soley with gennys and loved it. the flavor with a properly set up ceramic wick and genesis atty is unbeatable and is still the best flavor I have ever tried. I have yet to incorporate it into anything else besides a genny. what I like about the cotton is there is absolutely no heat sink unlike ceramic. to me that was the only draw back to ceramic is that it took a while to heat up, which also took a lot of power. if anything I might try the diy white wicks and shape it in one piece for the kay lite. personally I wouldn't think there is much difference in flavor compared to cotton, the advantage is the ceramic will last a lot longer then the cotton. a dry burn every now and then and your good to go, unlike the cotton where every few days you have to re-wick. heres how I see it. flavor fairly even, heat sink goes to cotton with less power to heat wick. maintence goes to ceramic(will last forever). vapor production fairly even. making the initial set-up, cotton has a big advantage because ceramic is a little tricky.
