So leaving the kfl on the side... the air hole keeps leaking right? My jeans are soaked what a waste of boba

Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 4

Hm, can't say I have had that happen before. My KFL is in my side pocket of my service wear all day. That thing is sideways, straight up, upside down, inverted, submerged into my thigh, and I have yet to see it dribble. Hopefully someone here can help you discover the fault; they have the KFL down to a science. Me? I vape the dang thing, and report here when it will not perform! :2cool:

So I listened to vapdivrr and made my wick a little more dense, laid the tails flat in the base and poked them right up against the chimney wall on top of the juice channels. Seems to be working perfect. I get air bubbles just about every puff.

I used just a tad more cotton than I do in my drippers but rolled it a little bit just like in his video.

I think I got it finally!!!

From everything I've read I gather the point is to make sure you place enough wick over the channels but not INTO the channels. This will stop the juice from flowing into the chamber when sideways by plugging the channels enough to not allow juice to free flow into the chamber when the device is sideways or upside down bit still have wick at the opening of the channel to pick up the juice that gets sucked in when vaping.

Here's to having enough info on-hand to make sure my first build is just right!

I'm an excited soon to be Kayfun user! If I'm not a user soon I'm going to just order a second from intaste, it'll probly beat cloud9s here!

Micro or regular in a kfl?

-Lord

Anything works in a Kayfun. Currently got a micro with silica. I kinda get a kick out of all the attention this thread gives to wick/coil setups. While it matters in many devices, it's pretty hard to have a bad set up on the KFL unless you stuff the wick in the well too tight.

Enjoy your Kayfun Lord. I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it. It's expensive to be sure but they are quality juice feeders.

hey buddy just wondering what brand of cotton your using. I have heard that some do have different tastes to them. from all the info that I have read the cvs brand has the best results. also I would leave slightly more wick at the deck channel. I think positioning at the channel is correct but cutting the wick off right at the deck could be slightly short. I do cut at the deck but also add a little extra, this way you know the wick is staying at that point without the possibility of moving away. but you know the length and if you feel like it will stay fairly bunched up at that spot then its ok. for me personally, I have had the best flavor with the coil lower then what you have described. you know the big toe nail clippers? not the smaller one but the larger size, I use the thickness of the file part of this clipper to judge my distance. I slide this file under the coil, which fits in without touching the coil or deck. this distance, for me, produces the right amount of vapor, flavor, and TH, but this varies from person to person.

I don't suspect it is the cotton (Rite Aid - sterile, rolled) because it is outstanding in other atties. I'm pretty sure my issue is what I described before, I used more cotton than I knew I should have. I have 3 tests this week and no time to fart around with it as much as I normally would.

decided to make a new kayfun video because the last one I had to dub some cheesy music onto it to cover up some other music that was playing in the back round. when I went to upload to u-tube they deleted the sound because of copyright issues, this is when I dubbed over to re-upload. I also added a few other things in the new one.kayfun lite coil set-ups - YouTube

curious to know what brand of cotton you are using? it maybe possible that some cotton brands have different make-ups which may cause different tastes.

Super-X-Approved CVS rolled cotton, and some no-name cotton balls (100%, sterile). FWIW, I like the cotton balls better. Someone in another thread observed that rolled cotton was more mellow while cotton balls were more sharp. I was skeptical (100% cotton is 100% cotton), but I'd only used the rolled. Turns out I was wrong.

I only pack/twist one end enough to get it through the coil, then the I trim the tails so they just touch the ledge - so the packed/twisted bit gets trimmed off and everything remaining is fluffy.

I'm going to be experimenting with more / less cotton as I rewick. As well as trying the rolled cotton again in my current coil. I'm also going to be picking up some "organic" cotton balls soon as well, just to try.

thanks, just was trying to find out if it was possible that other types could mute the flavor compared to the cvs ball I use. these are the only ones I have ever tried so I have nothing to compare it to. thanks and good luck.

Well I spoke too soon, got a dry hit but only 1. Didn't seem to burn the cotton. I seem to have to suck really hard to get air bubbles to show....

I doubt my juice is too thick, its 70/30 wta

I'll know again tomorrow if this build worked or not.

tbh I really don't know what the air bubles have to do with anything. the only time I see air bubbles is after I fill the device then turn it upright, then after taking a few primer pulls. after that I don't see them again till I re-fill. although you could of gotten just a one off dry hit it still could be the correct density of the wick but it may be the length. you said you cut off the wick right at the deck, like even with it. it is possible that you may need slightly more length. if the wick is cut maybe slightly short it is possible that it could of pulled away from the slot a little bit. maybe when the juice comes in & out it pushed the wick away from the sweet spot. if your still having issues maybe next time add a tiny bit more to the length of the tail so it cannot get pushed away. tbh, im not really sure if this is whats actually happening, all I can say is I do make a slight bend on my wick tail at the bottom, it just is not cut off right at the base. good luck. oh, and I also doubt its the juice, I have ran 100 vg with no issues at all.

I know I'm just repeating what many have said already, but I wanted to add my micro/cotton experience for those that haven't read my previous posts.

Like others, I struggled with wicking issues for the first week or two but the key for me was to make my wick thinner on each build until I got it right. I don't roll the cotton, I form into the right shape -- enough so that the fibers aren't erratic and messy. When pulling it through you should get just the tiniest bit of resistance, enough so that it stays in place. I trim the wicks so that the ends lay across the deck and to be honest, I never really pay attention to whether the channels are covered or not. I figure the cotton is going to expand and probably cover them anyways. After everything is built, test on a DMM one more time, let it soak for a minute, and then vape away.

When its time for a new wick, I press a paper towel against the old wick to soak up extra juice, clip it close to the coil (if its being stubborn), and pull it out gently. A quick dry burn and brush of the coil, and a new wick is ready to be slid into it. I've been using the same coil for over a month now and replacing the wick takes only a minute or two. It actually takes longer for me to clean old juice from the tank pieces. I do this about once a week. I will probably replace the coil on my next build -- there's no need but I've got all this Kanthal, might as well use it.

One thing I did notice is that I left a cotton ball on my table for a week and then used it in a build. That particular build had a slightly different flavor to it so I only use new cotton straight from the bag now. I also make sure my cotton stash is closed to the open air -- I'm not sure whether the cotton collects dust or soaks up scents, but I do notice a small difference in flavor if the cotton has been too "exposed". I'd also suggest washing your hands before handling the cotton as I'm sure it inherits whatever is on your hands.

I also had a small bit of juice leaking from the fill screw area but that stopped around the same time I started using a wider bore drip tip. The two could be unrelated though. I'm guessing either my early builds were sloppy and caused the leaks, or the standard drip tip was causing condensation to build up in some way. In any case, the leaking has stopped and it wasn't really enough to cause concern anyway.
