that custom ceramic wick was made by gdeal, if you want more info you can probably PM him. I can list quite a few advantages of ceramic over mesh because I vaped ceramic exclusively in my gennys for a long while. I started a thread back in feb called fc-2000 ceramic wicks and loved it until the micro's came along. although porous ceramic, imo, is probably the best flavor I have ever tried, it does have some draw backs, for one, its expensive and is very fragile, also its not easy to wrap. the coil needs to be very tight on the wick, and I mean tight, if not the flavor is muted. I know some have tried ceramic and found it no difference to mesh but if its wrapped correctly, there is no comparison imo. the best thing about ceramic is there is no possibility of shorts because of the non conductive material. another plus to ceramic is no oxidation required, also I believe its a safer wick compares to mesh. mesh if over oxidized can create some maybe harmful chemicals, like chromium, I believe, this is why in part the ceramic became popular some time ago. all in all ceramic isn't an easy set-up to make, because of the tightness needed on the wick you have to hot wrap it. using a torch, you wrap the coil while the wire is glowing, this basically melts the wire around the wick. also you can electrically wrap it, this is done by connecting the positive and neg leads to a power source and charging the wire electrically until it becomes super pliable, at this point you need to make your wrap quickly. if done correctly you will be rewarded with a flavor that is very pure and tastey.

And after going through that trouble, how long does the wick last and how easy is it to clean it? I just started to read info un oxidized mesh vaping safety. Makes me a sad panda, it tastes so goood! I overly oxidize based on Rip Tripper's recommendation stating in a video that you will usually get a mettalic taste out of a lightly oxidized mesh, he recommends to heavily oxidize so thats how I've done it. It also guarantees no shorts.

Ceramic in a KLF works great. I have had this style ceramic wick in my KFL for over a month (over 100ml through it). The one with the coil inside the hole (carto-style) was not practical. It vaped really well at first but went down hill quickly. The vape also was too hot.

If you have a FC2000 or just a plain old white ceramic round wick, you can use that too. Just trim to width, wrap and use cotton for legs down to the juice holes. I think SteveW posted his set-up on this and was getting good results.

I haven't found that to be true at all. I found that the less I do to mesh, the better the taste. I used to oxidize like Rip Tripper does. Nowadays, I do absolutely nothing to it. No torching, either before or after rolling. I roll my piece of mesh up. Fit it into the pre mounted coil. Pulse it on a mechanical mod until all coils glow evenly. Fill and vape.

I don't know your stance on clones and the like Bronze, but between the slightly lower priced Russian, the less still ehpro clone, and the even less still Rocket 3.1 clone... You could conceivably (all Rockets mind you) have 7 or so for under $100.

I have two Rockets going right now... and they work surprisingly well. :)

Good info. I put myself on a vape gear moratorium for now. It can really get out of hand.

for the 1.3 ohm 28g set up? or just because you might want to try some extreme resistance coils?

Just making light of the high amp vaping. :)

never ordered from fastech myself, good place? and you can order just one device? for some reason i thought it was one of those places where you had to order like 50. i know that's probably not the case because i see a lot of people buying from them.

I have an order from Fastech coming today. It took two weeks to get here. The Chinese are holding up parcels in Hong Kong for extra inspections.

To the guy who has the zap and is getting tired of it.. take that mesh or ceramic out of it... take the insulator out of the wick hole and put a micro coil and cotton in it... the zap is perfect for a micro with cotton because you can pull the cotton down through the coil and down into the tank section with the tank off the device.. then slide the tank back on. You'll love your zap! The pic below isn't a zap but the concept is the same.

Hi Donna,

I have two ZAP's sitting around collecting dust. I hate them with a passion as they get my hopes and then require more maintenance than I care to have to deal with. That set up looks great that you have there. I've been away from the forums for a while and this is the first I'm seeing of it. Where do you get the materials (are they pre-made?) to set something like that up?

If I could find someway to get rid of the o-rings and have that top threaded so I would screw on and stay on securely, that would be great. Has anyone done that?

Also, with this setup that you pictured, can you lay the Provari/Zap on its side?

I was concerned as well with these. When I first got them, I thought "oops - these are just a little too shiny to be well made", but after disassembling them completely, making sure everything was tightened and adjusted correctly, hitting all the threads with scotchbrite and silicone greasing the o-rings... they work nicely, especially when my total investment is $40 for two.

There are some US sellers now... usually just under $40 shipped. If supporting US vendors is a priority to you.

Post a link to your source SoF. Thanks

im giving up on the cotton bed under the coil in the kaylite for now. although it works flawlessly in my other devices its just not consistent enough in the k-lite imo. had it working for most of the day yesterday but then it just lost its umph.

I appreciate you experimenting with all this stuff. Spares me the effort.

I've read all the posts since the couple I made last night and I'm very close to trying this thing out. It just still sounds like a lot of work. I like premium devices that give premium results without having to take time away from my daily activities to deal with them. I know, it's not a good thing, but I'm being honest. The KFL sounds like it once it's set up, it's good to go for a long time. For someone who wants a simple, easy to do set-up to get his feet wet, what else should I order aside from the KFL? I've heard that I need a ring of some kind for my Provari? Someone also mentioned InTaste - is that where I should try? I'm not interested in knock offs unless they're exactly the same high quality as the original.

Also, I'm vaping 50/50 24mg Rawr Caramel, Poison Caramel, and Poison at the moment. I've a got a decent stock of that on hand. Will it work well with that juice?

Last night I mentioned how much I hated the Kanger Protank 2. It was way too airy of a draw for me and I could not stand the taste of metal in my mouth. The KFL can take the standard cheap plastic drip tips from what I understand, correct?

Thank you all for the great feedback and advice. I sincerely appreciate it.

Lord, I find the KFL very simple to build. As simple as anything out there. Certainly no more difficult. And the KFL works great on any type of wicking media (I'm using silica now) and on any type of PV (regulated or mech). The KFL is not fussy. When you see folks boasting about certain set ups it isn't because it is light years better than anyone else's. It just happens to work best for them. And it's always fun for many of us to fuss with our setups. Don't be intimidated by all the wick/coil versions. I would start out with a simple microcoil with cotton ball wick (or silica if you want less maintenance). We'll get you through it if you need help.

Drip tips...like any other device. Some of my cheapies work fine in the KFL, others not. But I use the tip that came with the KFL because I like it. :)

One reason why folks think devices are too airy is because the vape quality sucks. Not the case with the KFL. I find it slightly on the airy side but the vape quality is so superior that it doesn't matter that it's a little airy. You adjust your inhale and adapt accordingly.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm about to order it now but looking for the best place. Can you recommend what else I should buy to start out with - like the wicks and coils? Also do I need a ring for it to fit on my Provari, a replacement parts kit and spare insulators?
Lord, I use a Provari with my KFL and I would get 30ga Kanthal to make your microcoils (10 wraps around a 2mm shaft). I use silica because it can be dryburned and used over and over. But you can go with cotton as well.

I ordered from InTaste because they were the cheapest to my door ($105) and it took only a couple/few days. They have some sort of VAT tax but it was waived for overseas orders.

I got a ring for my Provari. It dresses it up nicely. I would recommend it.

The KFL I got from InTaste came with spares parts...o-rings, and some screws. No insulators.

I just got my KFL from Vaperev in California for $110, in the box but no spares. Love this device. I am using silica and after you set it up its low/no maintenance.

On question I have is on washing out the wick and dry burning. I noticed after a week and a half the flavor is a little muted. Was going to recoil but if I rinse the silica and burn the coil will the flavor improve or should I just build a new coil/wick? Does the silica break down over time?

I ordered my KFL from Cloud 9. I received it the same week, packaged well, with extras. I've seen a few pop up in the classies as well. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks Bronze. Sorry I feel like a complete idiot ordering this stuff. They're telling me that they use 20ga and I don't even see 30ga on their site. Can you recommend a place for these extras to create the wicks? Also is it the same ring for the regular Kayfun? And when you say no insulators - do you mean don't order them?

Silica is glass. So it wont burn. And yes, after you thoroughly rinse/dry you can pulse your PV until you get a nice glow on your coils (and the smoke stops). Blow off the ash and it should bring it back to life. Silica lasts a good long while and the ability to dry burn silica is one of its advantages.

There are a few sellers on eBay, and one or two vendors with them in stock... looking.... looking....

Rocket Rebuildable Atomizer 4mL (Kayfun 3.1 Clone)

Rocket Atomizer RBA Kayfun 3 1 Russian 91 Clone Rebuildable Tank Best Vapor 510 | eBay

Rocket Kayfun V3 1 Russian 91 Rebuildable Atomizer Clone in Color US Shipper | eBay

Rocket Atomizer RBA Kayfun 3 1 Russian 91 Clone Rebuildable Tank Best Vapor 510 | eBay

I could have sworn there was one more vendor listing... but it's not showing up in a search with the words "rocket kayfun 3.1".
