If your flavor is dropping like that, try a SLIGHTLY less dense wick. (Assuming you are using cotton )

Yup, I just took it appart because I blended two juices that ended up not to my liking and I re-wicked it. This time with less cotton density and a little less density on the tails as well. Put a different juice in it and the flavor is being a lot more consistent. I'm vaping 80%VG juice at the moment with no issues whatsoever with flavor and wicking.

HI KFL threadsters. Haven't dropped any posts lately but enjoying reading the tread. Glad to see some of the people who were struggling finding some success. I guess I consider myself fortunate in that I haven't experienced a dry hit yet. And it was because I researched this thread thoroughly before building my first KFL nearly two moths ago.

Only thing I want to add for the newer KFLers is that if you're getting leakage, the first thing you should check is to be sure all your segments (inside and out) are fully tightened. And also check that your o-rings are not damaged. You have four large and one small o-rings. Checking for tightness and o-ring condition will solve the vast majority of leaking problems. The segments should bottom out with one another. You think a snug fit is good enough but often it is not. They have to be seated next to each other.

Just got my kfl and got a couple questions. Can the plastic tank get cracked by certain juices? Can you lay the kfl on its side? Noticing slight leakage with the top portion of the plastic tank. I'm gonna try out one of the spare o-rings

IIRC, some folks mentioned that the small o-ring (4c) in the top cap can swell with harsh juices, causing leaking/flooding. See post #4074 http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/rebuildable-atomizer-systems/436118-kayfun-lite-408.html#post11001146 for links to replacement rings.

And I think somebody in this thread offered to send smaller packs just recently (running out of time to search...)

Hi guys.... Ok, so I've been trying to get a consistent vape from my kfl for almost a month now w/out getting 1. Every time I think I have a great setup, I end up burning the cotton and having to start over again. I've done Micro coils ranging from 30 gage kanthal to 24 gage and from 1¹/16 drill bit, to a 3m screw and all sizes in between. For the life of me I just can't seem to get this thing to hit the same every time. I have gotten a few builds to vape a whole tank, but then as soon as I refill the kfl, I'll get a burnt wick shortly after. I even waited 10-15 minutes before vaping it.

I went ahead and took some pics of my current build and as of last night it was performing flawlessly, but as of now, it has hit dry & burned the cotton. It just about made it through my work day! I am posting this so of someone could please let me know if you see anything in the pics or has had this same thing happened to u & can please give me some tips to fix my setup, cuz I'm constantly having to dry pull a few times just to be safe that it's not dry.

Also, I forgot to mention that As far as the cotton goes, I'm using organic cotton balls & my current build is a 1¹/16th drill bit with 29 gage kanthal with a 10 wrap at 1.6ohms. I have as much cotton as I could stuff in the coil, there was a good amount of resistance pulling the cotton through . I then pulled the cotton tails through the half of the chimney and trimmed the cotton a mil or 2 above the top. I then used a small screwdriver to situate the cotton into the top of the channels for the juice.

Please let me know if u need anymore information.

Sorry about the long post!!

That actually looks quite good. What ohms are the coils, What juice are you using? PG/VG ratio? and also what device and settings are you firing the coil on?

The only thing I can think of is that there may be just a little too much cotton in the coil. Just a bit.. can't really think of anything else by looking at your pics.

I think it's too much cotton, shouldn't be so tight going through the coil, should be very slight resistance as you pull it back and forth, if the wick is choked in the coil then it will burn the center of the cotton and when you pull it out you'll see it being black where it was in the coil, make it less tight, bit less dense

turbo is correct. Thin up on the cotton. Should be able to pull it through the coil with only slight resistance. Have the wicks cut so they are the width of the Kayfun itself. I use silica on my Kayfun but I use cotton in all my Phoenix RBA's because I vape some nasty NETs and the juice gunks up quickly. What kind of juice are you running through your Kayfun? Maybe you just need to change your wick more often...like after every tank. It's really not hard to do. Pull the wick, do a dry burn. Replace with a new wick.

Don't want to interrupt the (KFL/cotton/mech only thread) to much :D, but this is the best setup for me by far and thought some may be interested.

Russian with vertical hollow coil and hemp wick....more info here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/378875-just-hemp-16.html#post11014899

I've played a lot with verticals a few months back, what I found was that the wick would get a bit dry at the very top of the coil and give a burnt taste there, it works pretty good and gives a really nice vape but keeping the top of the wick wet enough was the problem. I think a lot has to do with that long leg too, the coil heats from the center but with that one long leg it moves the center up and the top of the coil heats more than the bottom with this build. always meant to go back to it and build a vertical post to eliminate the long leg but haven't revisited this in a while

Some have had a little success with cotton and this type of build, but this hemp seems to be the trick....or at least one of them

Micro/Nano is another part of it....as well as getting the packing density right on both the tight wrap around the coil and loose filler on the sides.

Done right you can hit a low ohm build with a lot of power 20+ watts. Its a pretty versatile setup and I don't need to use that kind of power for my preferred vape, but I can take it to a true 20 watts on a DNA mod and it doesn't burn.
