.........But the most interesting part was the deck had a machine mark. .....

I think machine marks can be pretty common, and it's up to quality control to catch it and correct the problem or buff them out for the final product. Another thing I've noticed in pictures of the clones is the different 'look' of the metal finish between the various sections of the unit. A good example is the ehpro r91 clone that has a different look on the top piece than the tank section. I think that's from different feed rates on the lathe machines and a lack of qc to buff the fine lines out for the final product. I'm going by pictures so I could be wrong, but I've seen several pictures and that's what it looks like to me.

What I'm getting at here is that I think you have every right to be proud of your collection. They have superior workmanship and it shows. Like the old saying, the quality will remain long after the price is forgotten.

..... I was actually embarrassed to vape with what I had with me in front of anyone. I took a provari/kfl and a roller/DID wicked with cotton with me today. The times I've been out and another vaper sees it.. they're like "what is THAT?" I don't really know what to say without feeling like I'm showing off.. which I'm not and try not to be viewed that way. I'm am proud of the gear that I have, I've worked hard for it and it's taken me a long time to get the stuff that I have. Of course I enjoy taking pictures and showing them off but I don't want to come off as an elitist snob. ......

I can't imagine you as ever coming off as an elitist snob. I had to grin at Bronze's tease though. :vapor:

I have 5 Kayfun Lites; and all have the machining marks on the ledges, to varying degrees. They have no functional purpose. They are just a part of the machining process, I assume. I don't pay any attention to them. They are inside the chimney and under the wick; so the only time they're ever seen is when I'm rewicking or rebuilding.

It's true. I've been loading up 2 drippers for the drive and making due with what's in there til I arrive. I just am not into cartos, not even worth it to me to make the climb. I don't really know much about REOs though. Never looked at how they work but assume if they were a viable option it would have been mentioned in at least one of the threads I've read on altitude change. From what I understand they are like a dripper with the bottle inside so you just feed it more liquid when needed? If that's what it is it seems like it would work, but I assume there is simple more to it than that.

Nothing complicated about a Reo, and judging from your posts I think you would like the Reo. Basically a manual tank feed dripper.

He's absolutely right. I have a Reo Mini 2.1 tumbled Aluminum. 3 ml bottle. I have the Reomizer atty also on it. Microcoil and cotton. Could not be simpler. I don't think it would leak due to pressure changes, as the system is "open". But I'm always sure to set it upright. If I "over-squonk” and lay it down, 1-2 drops of liquid might come out the air hole. But small enough to set in your cup holder. I like it. Easier than a dripping atty, and no problem to squonk and drive, even with a stick. Flavor is great, too.

How much were they selling the Kayfun for? I am about an hour and a half away from Charlotte. :)

Sent from my Astromech in a galaxy far, far away. The force is with me. so is Mr. chicken.

The unit that I looked at was $70.. it was the kayfun 3.1 clone. It's cheaper to just order from the website. In the retail store, they mark their prices up (to pay the overhead) so if you factor in gas... shipping is cheaper. I just stopped in because I was right there and it was fun to look at all the stuff that I don't normally get to see in person. I wanted to hold the "clone" in my hand to see what kind of quality it was. Since I paid premium prices for the kfls I have, I was hoping for a piece of crap... but it actually wasn't.

I have the ehpro Lite clone and honestly, besides a few really tiny things they could have done better with, it's really really nice.

Amazing thread!! Took quite some time but I've read through most of it and am now building coils that produce the taste and vapor I've been searching for. I'm using a Kayfun Lite on a Nemesis (not cloned) and use 28 gauge kanthal with organic cotton for a wick. My latest build came out at 1.2 ohms and that's pretty close to what I was aiming for. I don't want to go any higher than that.

A friend has been wanting a KFL but we just saw the Aqua in a local store. Anyone here have experience with them? Looking to get an opinion from someone familiar with the KFL who's also tried the Aqua.

Thanks
MT

Posted this in a thread related in general smoking..LEAKING airhole.

I've had a few successful builds on mine. I'm following the manual on problems and so forth. My coil is ~2mm above airhole, my wick isn't compacted in the wells just laying over them..tried leaving them open just getting them close to them too, my top oring grips so well, I sometimes unscrew chimney when removing top, and I've tried unscrewing top and tipping over screwing it back on.

Don't know what's going with it..

Don't know what's going with it..

Are you filling from the fill screw? Using a dropper, bottle, or needle? I find when using it straight from the bottle or dripper, air gets forced in the tank. The tank works on vacuum not pressure. Mount baker vapor has these needles that screw on your bottles, they're like 50 cents I bought like 4. They make filling much easier and I never flood my tank with them. Also, to add vacuum to your tank, after filling, hold the tank upside down. Put your finger over the air hole, and give a few short quick light sucks on the drip tip.

Make sure you juice up all your o rings before screwing things together. Make sure connections are tight, but not hulk tight...

Don't suck so hard. Don't take primer puffs. To clear a flooded atty, hold tank upside down, blow through airflow hole for a few minutes. The juice sometimes takes a while to flow down out of the drip tip connection. Make sure you use a paper towel to catch the juice.

Lastly. You could be using too much wick. You don't want to cram so much wick through the coil that it can't actually absorb juice. Your wick should be about the same diameter as the inside diameter of your coil. If you feel you need additional wicking, wick your coil externally by looping the wick down to the channel and back up to the coil. A lot of people are calling it a Truman coil on this forum. Good luck let me know if you have any more questions

I got a clone version the other day. I'm having issues with leaking. I've tried using fill screw, filling from the top and tipping over, and even fill screw with releasing pressure by tipping. It's a clone with the laser etch just like the original.

The orings look good, so I don't know what to do. The fill hole doesn't have a gasket. I don't know if that is a plus revision, or if the original has one.

It's not pouring out, but it will seep out airhole over night.

SuspectK, don't know if you resolved this or not, but I had a similar problem - found out the fill screw was not sealing well (this was supposed to be a genuine KFL from VapRev.) Try wrapping some Teflon (plumber's) tape round the screw before you insert it. Worked for me.

I know it's a tiny bugger, but it can be done. :toast: Let us know if that works, Ok?

You can fill with the bottle tip on bottles like Mt. Baker's. That's the way I've been filling my Kayfuns for months now. To equalize the pressure when its about full I just flip the tank upside down and let some air up into the tank from the bottle and then I put a tiny bit more juice in there util I see a large bubble going up and down the tank when I flip it either way. Remove the tip of the bottle from the fill hole with the drip tip facing down and tighten the fill screw down. I've only VERY rarely flooded my chamber while doing this and its only when I over fill the tank by mistake.

Cheers!

On an other note, I've been wicking "truman" style for the past week still using the same 1 month old coils in my Kayfuns and they are working better than ever. Just a hair tighter but the overall flavor is much improved!

Come to Rochester NY if you want some sick pro level courses :)

Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk

Just bumped into a guy from Rochester yesterday.

I live near Pinehurst near Raleigh-Durham, NC. (site of the 1999 US Open...I was there for the final round when Payne Stewart rolled in that long putt for the win). Also the site for the 2005 US Open and again in 2014. It's a golf mecca here.

Something that I've discovered with the kayfuns that I use. I use micro coils and cotton and if the cotton isn't dense enough, I'll get burnt hits. Even if the wick tails are properly placed.. if that strip of cotton is wimpy or wispy it just doesn't work for me. Each time I've rewicked and picked up a strand of cotton and thought "Maybe this will be good enough" ... it wasn't. If the piece that goes through the coil isn't "dense" .. if it will pull apart with minimal effort.. then I'll have problems with it. I know I keep repeating myself here LOL.. but I want to make it clear what I'm talking about.

Just thought I'd pass this along as part of what I've experienced.

Pbusardo just did a video on the kfl+ and about 20 minutes in..he times himself building it from scratch and then he times himself rinsing and then rewicking. Notice how much cotton he uses! That's way more than I've been using. I'm going to try using that much next time I rewick one of mine. I usually let mine sit for a few minutes (thinking that I'm letting the cotton more fully absorb the juice) but he vapes immediately and declares it perfect.
