I did it!! I wrapped my first coil today! 30ga 8/9 wraps on 2mm mandrel...2.0 ohms. I then took a piece of yarn which is 4 strands and took out 2, doubled it up and pulled thru the coil with a needle/loop. You may be asking why didn't he just use the full strand? Well, I actually don't know why other than threading it thru the coil was much easier looped and it seems that I have more "fingers" on the deck!! Been thru about half a tank of HHV dark horse and not a gurgle or a dry hit!! Running my provari at 4.2 ohms.

Nice Job :)

More importantly, that Z06 is sick, so I hate you fine sir...:p

For my micro coils on the KFL and also the Russian 91% I always use a 5/64 bit, 30 gauge with 8 wraps. Squeezed tight and I come up with 1.7-1.8 ohms.
I'll stick with my sterile cotton for wicks. Got enough for a life time. The micro coils on my rm2' all get the same setup but the bit is either a .059-.061 diameter. Turns out between 1.3-1.5. Same wraps. Just smaller diameter.

Hey guys. Just wanted to see if something I'm experiencing is a common/normal occurence.

I've always used my KFL+ on a GP Paps in 18350 mode. For the last month or so I've had Gambit from Five Pawns in there with a 1.2 ohm micro coil with cotton (10 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal on a 5/64 jig). I absolutely love the setup; it's everything I can hope for. But every time I try to use the same exact KFL+ build on an 18490 mech mod, even the same Paps with an 18490 tube, I start to get that borderline burnt flavor. Not quite singed cotton, but definitely not that perfect clean flavor I get with the Paps in 18350 mode.

Is this normal when switching to a bigger battery? Should I build my coils with a little higher resistance if I'm going to use it in 18490 mode?

Did you test the voltage at the 510 connector that your two batteries are putting out? It's possible that your 18490 is putting out a higher voltage compared to the 350.

Get your batteries tested on a multimeter. Then test the voltage output under load on the 510 connector of your mod. Compare results.

Something may be off..

Batteries have an internal resistance which effects how much current it can deliver under load. The less the internal resistance the better, and batteries with a higher amp limit have less resistance. My Samsung and Sony with amp limits of 20 and 30 come off the charger kicking more than batteries with a more internal resistance, and keep in the higher volt range longer.

Bigger batteries will come out kicking stronger, but the age of the batteries also comes into play. The internal resistance of all batteries gets higher as it gets used and re-reused. So if I have 2 18650 batteries that are the same, one is new and the other has been charged a couple hundred times, they both may show 4.2 volts when fully charged but the new one will deliver a higher current under load. So if your 18490s are newer and less used than the 18350s, they will definately be kicking out more power, and your resistance may need to be adjusted to hit your sweet spot on a mech.

Both the 18350s and the 18490s come off the charger between 4.2-4.1 volts on my multimeter. I also have a 510 voltage tester and I have tested the voltage of the batteries firing in the mods and I get the same. I'll have to try them out under load to see if I get a significant difference.

I have 4 350s and 4 490s. Funny thing is two of my 350s are newer than all the other batteries by a few months. I'm no expert, but I think my 490s are still good since they work great with all my other devices. Just giving me that problem with the KFL+ for some reason. I have a Russian 91% on its way so I'll try building a higher resistance on that one and try it on an 18490 mech.

Thanks for the input guys :)

Under load is all that should matter, and hopefully will be your answer. Fingers crossed..

As long as they came off the charger at 4.1-4.2 I'd say the batteries are still good. What they deliver under load though will tell you what power level you're vaping at with them and if you'll want to adjust your coil's resistance.

I have a bunch of batteries, if I'm running a slightly higher coil resistance or in the mood for more oomph I'll grab for a battery that has less voltage drop under load.

To my knowledge the 18490's have less internal resistance, so you may actually be getting more power to the coil under load.

Testing under load would verify this.

*I'm referencing AW's here, i didn't read anything about what brand batteries you are using.

That's pretty much what I was getting at.. but Buzz is much more concise and to the point lol.

Daggone!! Well, I grabbed another KFL+ and a couple accessories and the next thing I knew...192.00!!! What in the heck is that VAT for 20%, that was a hammer but I placed order anyway since I've been on the notification list at Vaperev for a few weeks now!! I don't usually @@@@@ about pricing but dang.....how long do deliveries normally take from them to east USA?

I didnt think you had to pay VAT if it's shipped outta country? I was in the military overseas and when I had to buy something expensive on the local economy, we had a VAT form that knocked off the VAT for in country use. Something seems strange to me.

Anyone else here in the states paying the VAT when buying from places like cloud 9?

Yea they got me too with that VAT. I wonder if we can get refunds. Has anyone tried that before?

My order was placed on a thursday (thanksgiving day) and arrived in LA on monday. very fast. Then it sat in LA for a week w/ no movement at all but maybe this was because of the holidays.

I just sent them an email to inquire about VAT. If others have comments, please let me know. Is this a tax?

They responded quickly! The VAT is included in the posted price and then they they break the VAT out on the invoice. Her response was very detailed about why some sites charge and pay the VAT and some do not!! I could post her answer if anyone is interested but I guess it is what it is!! No refund coming my way!!
