Here's the complete build…the top wick should be good and wet and when you lay it over the coil, then install the chimney tube, it'll snug the top wick down over coil…I have yet to have any wicking material out of place. Break in takes a bit, it'll perform really well after about a 1/4 tank.
1.5mm diameter coil, 8-9 wraps , 28ga Kanthal A1…measures 1.2-1.3ohms

hey buddy in my previous post I was more talking about different coil designs not wire gauge. along with my latest coil configuration (going from macro to nano and back to macro in the same coil) there are a lot of other different types of coils in which there are small differences to a standard micro. some may feel the difference while others may not.
Oh yeah on the second part of the message I was commenting another post I read about which gauge wire gives a better vape. I can see how that was misleading since I mentioned your name on the first part in reference to the ridiculous outcome of the Superbowl :)

I haven't tried different coil builds other than the standard micro coils with cotton on my KFL+ ever since it replaced my spaced wraps around a strand of ekowool. It's so simple and effective I kinda don't even want to try another build in case I somehow notice a slightly better aspect to the performance. Then I'll want to keep building a more complicated coil, and so begins a period of frustrating practice builds and fails.

Im a highly trained Samurai warrior, I toss a cotton ball in the air, take two swipes and my wick lands right on my coil…

Actually…I use the rolled cotton, it's layered which makes it very easy to cut a strip and peel off layers for the desired thickness, and yes very sharp scissors to get whats pictured.

Hey Truman. Do you use a scissor to snip your cotton? Cos bloody hell, you have the neatest cotton wicks ever.

im glad your happy with whats working for you, so if it aint broke..... getting back to wire gauge, imo a thicker gauge produces a better flavor, I have tried every single gauge available from 34 to 26 and find I prefer 26. the issue is that the thicker gauge results in a lower resistance which equates to higher wattages and higher wattages plays havoc on wicking. if one can get around this I believe its a better vape.

I am still using the first 2 wicking patterns that you came up with, and I like them both, but I have sharp scissors also, and mine never look as good as yours, but they still work great. :)

Mostly thru Vapor Wall, Sir :)

Is that an invitation only forum? I tried joining it a while ago. Never got a confirmation email, login attempts always result in "...currently inactive"; "Forgot email password" link says my email is not in list; "Register" results in username and email already exists. Only option is to contact a forum administrator. I haven't been able to find how to do that.

I wasn't all that bothered before, but Lord!

Oh, lordy! That Lord Edition is a perfect match for my Parker Sonnet fountain pen that I still use!

Crap. This is a baaaaad month for my vape budget.

I used to have the same pen, and thought the same thing...! I moved on to a Pelikan...best fountain pen ever, IMHO.

Never had a Pelikan, but my collection, while never huge, has dwindled quite a bit. Now down to Watermans and Parkers. I find myself picking up that old Parker more than any of the others. My favorite, lowest maintenance fountain pen was a Parker P51 (probably a replica), but I cracked the barrel some years ago. I prefer the slim pens over what I call the baseball bats.

Just about time for me to rewick a couple of KFLs, but I'm procrastinating.

I like the Watermans, too...if I write with a slim pen, I get hand cramps, but I don't like the baseball bats either...the Pelican M800 is what I have...what I like about it is that it's a piston filler, and holds a ridiculous amount of ink. I also have a M200 Demonstrator...might be more to your liking, size-wise.

Just rewicked all my Kayfuns last night...isn't it funny what we dread doing that really takes so little time!

Read the entire thread

This was AFTER I bought a KFL by Tobeco about a month ago..... and if I had read through all this before, I probably would have passed on it just because of the "burps" that the original was having, ie. tweaking, leaks, additional parts given, not given in orders depending on the vendor, etc. :?:

Someone had suggested the Kayfun Lite, as an upgrade to the Kanger PT2's I was using on my Provari, on the Alice in Vapeland thread. I had pretty much mastered recoiling them, horizontal and vertical with cotton, and other than dripping (don't want to go there), it looked like the direction to go. They also suggested Tobeco, I didn't have a clue about the original company.

With one viewing of a Rip You Tube video, I got my Tobeco KFL and went to work on a cotton 1.1 ohm coil (28ga, 10 wraps, 18 gauge needle) build with the cotton wick across the deck (coil running the direction of the 2 screws, o-o) .........ok, leaks through the air hole. ("o" and "O" are screws, "-" and "l" are the coils for this post)
Not even thinking there was actually a sub forum on KF or KFL's, I took it out and revisited my coil, rebuilt it thus, OlO, (so shoot me, I don't have pics!) and with the cotton sticking out like flat bunny ears, I trimmed them at the point they were over the edge of the base. Primed the wicks, pre-fired, pointed the "ears" upward to put the stack on securely and used a paper clip to push the wicks down on the channels............
No leaks. Been changing out the cotton maybe every 4-5 tanks, no problems (I change my juice flavors alot). Have had no problems with o-rings expanding. (citrus, bakery, tobacco (NET) juices)

My only complaint about the actual unit was the "machine smell" when I got it, but I clean all my "toppers" before I use them. One hot soap and water bath, no smell/taste. Threads are smooth, pieces fit very well together, air intake screw turns easy, juice port screw didn't leak. TBC KFL included: 1 phillips screw driver (no keychain attachment, bummer), 4 large and 2 small black o-rings, 1 small opaque o-ring, 4 contact screws, 2 juice port screws, 2 air port hex threaded inserts, hex/allen wrench, and 3 pre-coiled wicks (they went in the trash). I had to wait 5 days to get it because I ordered over a holiday instead of 3 days.

It vapes like......well, it's incredible! I have filled it from the top, once, no leaks, and built a .8 ohm coil in it at one point (no "error" on the ProVari), very nice! Gave the BF all my PT2's.

What I would like to know, has the "original" KFL manufacturer fixed the problems mentioned in this huge thread, and do any of the US distributors give you all the extra parts the manufacturer does, now? Would like to have the original........:)
