Hello all. I need some help troubleshooting this mystery. I got my very first KFL+ (authentic) about 2 weeks ago. My very first build was a great success, then at some point the flavor went from KABOOM to almost none. Plenty of vapor, no dry/burnt hits, just no flavor. I've tried everything I can think of to solve this, and am out of ideas, and hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. Here are the details:

My Build:

Micro coil/cotten. 6 tight wraps on 3/32" (2.38 mm) drill bit, tweezed and torched = 1.8Ω every time, voltage on provari 3.7 to 3.9.

What I've Tried (without any success):

Wicking: Less wick, more wick, medium wick, longer tails, shorter tails, always out of the way of the canals, but at least resting on the deck.

coils: Have re-coiled 2 or 3 times, and tried higher and lower placement over the air hole. My coils are beautiful and fire just right (from middle out).

Cleaning: Have totally disassembled, cleaned everything, dried and reassembled.

Airflow: Tried adjusting airflow: tighter/looser.

juice (50/50 Ahlusion Maple Dream): After all else failed, I had to consider the unlikely possibility that I had a bad bottle of juice, so I switched to a tried and true and got the same results.

Filling: FWIW, when I top fill, I always get leaking through the air chamber after tightening the cap and releasing my thumb from the air hole. I always have to blow it out after that, but no leaks thereafter.

All o-rings seem fine and all fittings secure.

FWIW, I also have a Russian 91% using the same build with no problems.

OK Guys, what am I missing here?
Just cleaned and rebuilt with a 1.5 ohm coil, less tight. Still no joy.

Someone suggested you send it to them... might not be a bad idea. Not actually giving it away, but having someone else build it and see what they experience. Do you know anyone locally that rebuilds, or have a shop that could give it a run and see how it vapes?

I'm not trying to imply you are making a mistake on the build, but it would be an easy way to figure out if it's a setup issue or something else (and oddly magical apparently ;) ) wrong with the atty itself.

Come to me, you experienced Kfl coil builders.

I have an original KFL lite+, newly acquired. I've fooled around with a couple of coil builds using Kanthal28g (all I have in hand) and cotton (nothing really exotic.)
For me, the throat hit I'm getting is too much. I much prefer what I'm getting from cartotanks.
I like flavor and vapor, but don't want to cough.

Any suggestions on how to build this to get where I want to be?

For less throat hit, put the coil very close to the airhole on the deck. I mean like 1mm or less if you can manage it. Just be very sure you're not shorting it out between the posts.

Also, I dropped nic from 12mg on cartos to 6/8mg in a Kayfun. They're very efficient.

This is throat hit heaven. Even better if you're into warm dense vapor.

It depends on the size of your drill bit, but 8 wraps gives me about 1.3 ohms, and that will work pretty nicely on a Provari and it will also be easy on your batteries.

I ordered an authentic KFL+, 28 gauge Kanthal, and 2mm Ekowool Silica.

For a Provari, what ohm coil's should I be looking to build? Roughly how many wraps would it take to get there?

What are some of the best looking drip tips to put on a Kayfun? I find myself going back to the stock drip tip alot because the small opening really ups the flavor for me and all my others are wide bore.

I feel the same way... I've tried other tips but love the small ones on the KF's best. I'm not fond of the wide bore tips, personally. I've looked to try to find others like the Kayfuns.

I use a 5/64th bit, wrap with 32 ga wire 4x5 times and use cotton for my wicks, I get a read anywhere from 1.5-1.9 ohms.
I try shooting for 1.6 or 1.8 ohms, I'm liking it on my ProVari and the 18350's last 'bout 3hrs when I'm chain vaping.

I do really like the stock tip, it almost makes the vapor chewy it's so dense. I'm constantly getting condensation in my mouth doing lung inhales though, so I rarely use it. I've been playing musical chairs with tips on my Kayfun, it seems to look good with a variety of tips:

These do all look good, but do you find that the flavor becomes muted with the wide bore drip tips?
