I'm not even sure what a vertical coil looks like, nevermind how to make it or mount it.
There's a thread about a thousand posts long titled something like "show your working coil seup" that has plenty of pics of vertical coils, along with stove top and Clapton coils among others. Most posts are of traditional coils.

A vertical coil is just the standard coil you've been making but mounted so it stands up, ie it's oriented the same as the screws in your Kayfun. Stove top is a coil that's wound concentric-ly, ie like the stove top heating element of an electric range.

I'm looking for a new variable volt pv that will fit and match my Kayfuns. What's out there? I would like to use 18350 and 18650's.

Sigelei Zmax v3 flat-top, but it's not *really* flat, so I'm using one of the kayfun rings as a beauty ring. it works great because the kayfun is 22mm, and the sigelei is 23mm, which gives just enough room for the kayfun ring to ride outside the threads where the sigelei's top cap would normally go.

Yes it will work with the itaste. As far as is it "better," that's really a suggestive question. I tend to try not to PUSH a product on anyone; but, in my opinion, yes it is better. From the toppers I've tried I think the KFL is the best out there; especially on a regulated mod. It's the easiest to learn how to coil and build on, it tends to have the best flavor and vape production you can find, according to almost all of us that use it. But again when you start getting into what product is better than others it's all matters of opinion. The. Best thing out there is the thing that works the best for you. To me that's a kayfun, 5 ml juice capacity so I'm not filling it during the day, easy deck to work on, and killer production.

Stupid question but searching this thread is painful. Will a Kayfun-lite work with an itaste SVD and it is "better" than a nautilus?
I'd say that the Kanger Aerotank is better than the Nautilus and they even make a mega version now which looks good on 22mm mods. Comes with a stainless steel tank in addition to the standard glass tank. And doesn't require rebuilding, if that's what you're looking for. The Kayfun is a good first rebuildable tank although I suggest tiny chambered RDA (drippers) as first time devices. I prefer the taste I get from rebuildables over the Aerotank which I feel is the best glassomizer or clearomizer.

I don't wanna sound like a snob and I'm really reaaaaaally not. But with enough practice, you will be able to build a kayfun properly and there is just no way a nautilus can come close to comparing with a kayfun. Don't get me wrong; a nautilus or an aerotank are both REALLY good fuss-free non-rebuildables. Excellent devices. But built right, a kayfun delivers a far superior vaping experience, whether it's vapor production, throat hit or flavor.

The caveat to this of course is that you build it right. Which you will be able to if you give it a shot and have enough patience to stick to it :)

Tripple digits half way to home
I cut a coat hanger and made a mandrel for my coil gizmo because it does not come with a 2mm mandrel and the coat hanger was exactly 2mm

Exactly how I did it. Nothing could be easier. And their perfect every time.

I hear you on that, way to strong. For me personally I just like a thicker gauge wire, but then again I prefer lower resistances. I have always felt like the flavor is better compared to a thinner gauge but that could just be imagined. Especially in my droppers and reo much prefer a thicket gauge because I usually set those up in the .4 range. If doing those low resistances a thicker gauge wire is needed for sure, imo a 30g wire in that application is nowhere as good. Now in the kayfun using standard resistances I do feel like 30g is your best bet but there again because I go lower in resistances the 28g suites me better. Like I said I feel like the flavor is a little better, it's easier to work with, it holds up better, gives me better wick coverage. On the con side it probably uses more power and is not as responsive.

I was really freaking about the gap with the v3 flat-top, because the top ring isn't *really* flat, and the 510 connector is pretty tall, but someone posted that tip about using a kayfun ring as a beauty ring on the sigelei, the very week I got a kayfun -- so then I just had to wait to get the M-tank (and the nano but we won't go into that mess!) so I could actually use one of the kayfun rings that way. Takes a bit of fiddling, to get the KF's center pin *just* the right height to a) contact the battery post and b) the ring not rattle, but it works great, and looks so much better than that ugly gap. I just ordered a 2nd KF last night, so now I'll be able to use a KF with 'standard' tank-rings, while also using the *other* kayfun ring as a beauty ring, and that should also look nice. But I guess this solves the question for me of what mod to get next; really need to get another sigelei zmax of some kind, to keep the 23mm so I can keep using the kayfun rings this way.

I doubt I'll ever buy any other tank again, I love the kayfun so much. My decent T3S collection, I'll hang on to, for my son when he comes home, or to PIF for newbies so they can discover the wonder that is vaping, but the only non-kayfun I'm likely to get much use out of anymore is my Mini PT II for my morning high-nic zero-TH apple-cinnamon, and the Caterpillar for tasting new stuff.

Ricks, I use primarily a Provari but I also have an SVD and it works fine. It's telescopic so you can use a variety of the "18" batteries including the 18500 and 18650. My only gripe about the SVD is it is really tall. Performance/durabilty wise it is a fine PV. My advice to people who have committed to vaping is they should (when they can afford it) buy a Provari if they want a regulated mod. It is not only a superior device but minute to minute is the cheapest. They simply do the job and they last forever.

Caaaareful now. If there's one thing I've learnt as a fellow provari owner, it's that recommending a provari is the surest way to incite a riot. :D

Been through all those wars. :) Many with Provaris are snobs and the ones who don't have Provaris are jealous. They deserve each other. But as a purely objective viewpoint, the Provari is simply the most reliable and durable regulated PV money can buy. I would not recommend one to anyone starting up. They have to know vaping is going to work for them first before I would recommend a Provari. It's a sizable investment.
