I also kind of keep my wick tails close to channels. I feel the closer they are, the better because I feel they are right there catching the juice immediately. Maybe because I vape at higher watts then most, personally when I keep my wicks or try to keep my wicks away from channels is when I have issues.

I also pin my tails to the side of the terminal block so the channel has some open space up against the inside chamber.

Here's my latest KF build and likely the last for me, performance is stellar in every category, it's a Rayon wick and outperforms cotton on every level, I can go weeks on end before rewicking with no loss of flavor or general performance.

Tonight I felt like trying 32g kanthal wrapped around two 3mm silica. I did a 5 wrap coil coming in at 2.1ohms. So far so good. I usually have the tails fluffed up covering the channels but this time, I left them totally clear. I'm getting a little gurgling at times. If it keeps up, I'll spread them out to cover the channels some like I normally do.

This is why it is so hard for me to build these things, every video I've seen on you tube says to keep the wick away from the juice channels. There are a million ways to build these thing, but I suspect the KLF is sensitive to NETs, for me I rarely get more than an hour with the wick +nets. I'm going to try a simple grapefruit next and a spaced coil for my net. Its so time consuming building all these variations.

If it makes you feel better, svoemesto's Facebook page had an official post saying to keep the wicks away from the channel. So there's that. That was quite a a number of months ago tho

I've always run my wicks straight down, ending them right on top of the juice channels...never a problem with dry hits from any of my 4 KF's with cotton and now rayon, not sure how this would create a problem. I guess if you overstuffed and plugged up the vertical channel that could lead to a wicking problem, but resting the wick on the deck on top of the channel isn't...at least for me.

Oh no I have no issues with that. In fact I run my builds both ways, just depending on how I'm feeling on a given day. I also never had any issue with dry hits, regardless of whether I push the wicks against the deck walls or right above the juice channels.

I just thought if someone is thaaaat frustrated about it, an "official" response might help him narrow down his build options and tweaks. Yup!

The KFLs both authentic and the better clones seem to be extremely forgiving in build. With whicking being the only "touchy" part- at least that's been my experience. I'm almost starting to think some of the problems people are having is overthinking and over compensating.
I've had very limited issues with them. When I first started it was me trying to "stuff" it with cotton or trying to do the navy nest build- where you wrap cotton around the inside of the chimney- essentially turning it into a carto. Other than that nightmare it's fine well.
Chimney coil, dual, single I've tried them all. But just a regular ole plain jane single coil with a thin piece of cotton or rayon and that's a wrap seems to run smoothest.

I hear you on that, there are so many variations you can do. I think for the most part keeping totally away from channels is a the norm but imo different power levels requires variations. Take for instance the amount of cotton, if your running low wattages, you can have the wick kind of loose but I have found running the kayfun close to 20 watts requires a wick that's a little tighter in the coil and slightly more in the tails. So yes, it's a must to experiment and find what works for your particular set up. As for nets, I think the rayon gives you a longer time before having to dry burn

Think about it. You suck on the drip tip like a straw drawing juice into the combustion chamber. As long as there is enough opening in that channel you'll be OK. I always have a little opening at the point where the channel enters the combustion chamber.

Well I just ordered me some Japanese cotton pads. Im just wondering if its worth all the fuss. At least it will be easier to handle then my organic cotton balls I have been using..they just seem to fall apart on me.

I like using the pads cause I find it way easier to get a more accurate/repeatable measure of cotton for my builds.

For ease of build, the kgd is awesome. I definitely prefer it to my regular cotton for consistency but comparing it to the cvs sterile for flavor, not a big difference. I have tried a load of different wicks, hemp, regular cotton, sheidso, kgd, rayon and I forgot the name but it's sort of like rayon, but I also tried that. In all those materials, I have not found a big difference in any of them flavor wise, yes some are a little better and there are some I definitely prefer, but as for night and day difference, i haven't noticed. Maybe it's my tastes buds but if you really think about it, all those materials are pretty much white fibers so they can't be that much different.
