Wet the wicks with juice first. Press them against the side then put the collar on. Then push the wicks around so they go to the ledge. Then screw on the air tube

Pic helps, ty. The thing with my build is once the cylinder is screwed on, I clip the wicks, I have to gently push them down. With the space on the light version, they wicks don't really draper like that...or at least I can't tell.

Yeah that's what I do too. Wet. Trim. Press against deck.

Then screw on cylinder, and then check to make sure the wick didn't get messed up. Imo a far superior way of doing it than trimming after the cylinder is on

edit: I meant to say trim then wet lol

I think this is how I will do it next, the explanation and pics from you both help a lot. I've watched several vids on youtube and searched here, but everyone has their own way. This way makes the most sense to me and I am hopeful it will be the last piece of being confident I can use my Kfl all day without issue.

No thank you I was going to mix some juice up tonite instead I setup my 26650 kayfun that had been sitting in my vape drawer just had not got around to it as I had to regular kayfuns in rotation.

Sry all for monopolizing the thread recently, I know this isn't a "how to" thread. I put it together and am vaping...we'll see how it does over the next few hours.

How did you make out?

Right now, I'm really enjoying some space jam eclipse and watching tv with my baby...vaping perfectly. I have enough info and tips, thanks to you all , that I feel I won't have any other issues. I'm still going to keep one kanger tank handy, just in case, until I feel more confident when out and about. Thanks a ton.

I'm about a month into vaping and a week into RTAs. Probably a typical progression, evods to mini pros and mini nats to rta. I chose an original Russian 91% as my first rta. I'm delighted with the R91, but my setup is off the track from what most seem to be running.

Coil is 10 wraps of 30 ga kanthal formed on a 1/8 inch mandrel. About 3 ohms running 3 to 8 watts depending on the juice and my mood. I'm getting lots of cool sweet vapor from 40/60 pg/vg.

I've read most of this thread, thanks for the help folks! :)

3 - 8W puts you in the "so cold, you're dead" category! :D

Welcome to the thread!

What mod are you using to fire the Russian?

LOL, no one expects a zombie apocalypse! I'm using an iStick so it's probably a bit higher...
I have a dna40 coming, I'm interested to see where I find it makes me happy.
I like low watts for fruit flavors and somewhat higher for darker flavors.

Thanks for the welcome. :)

I'm on my 2nd Micro coil and. I now understand what the fuss is all about. Been using regular coils with silica for the past year and oh my god the difference is night and day. Add to that that Micro coiling with cotton is a million times more idiot proof, anyone reading this please give it a shot is so worth it

I've gotten more info about building a kayfun in the last 3 pages than I have in a few months of building the thing on my own. Good work chaps.

Will be putting all my new knowledge to work now...

View attachment 385300 Oh and I use a magnifier as well ;)

I need to get a magnifier, great idea.

I'm glad I found this place, so much help. The local b&m advised me to use silica and just wrap the wire for starting out, nice to have help and support jumping right into micro coils and cotton here.

Is having the coil tight instead of spread out any better with using silica? I only use silica in my Kayfuns. Never tried a tight coil like these pics.
Here is my thoughts on coils and wicks for the Kayfun .....

In my SvoëMesto Kayfun Lite-Plus, I tried using a micro-coil. The problem I had with them is that the inside diameter of the micro-coil was just too small to effectively install a cotton wick.

So ... I went back to making coils with a larger 2.4mm or 2.8mm inside diameter. Much better!

2.4mm inside diameter = 3/32" drill bit
2.8mm inside diameter = 7/64" drill bit

The photos below show a wick made with cotton yarn inserted in a Kanthal 28 AWG wire coil with a 2.4mm inside diameter ... This coil is 1.6 ohms. Feeding it 3.9v results in 9.5 watts (this seems to make for a very nice vape). :)

The problem with cotton yarn (or any cotton for that matter), is that it causes the juice in the tank to get very dark colored after a couple of tankfulls. Needs replacement all the time, and cannot be dry-burned.

Problem solved by replacing the cotton with braided silica (it resembles the cotton yarn, but WILL NOT burn, and lasts a looooong looooong time ). It also does not turn the juice a dark color like cotton.

Vapor production and flavor with a silica wick is just the same as cotton, but I get no flooding problems anymore on my Kayfun since changing over to silica.

OK so I'm a light weight low watter (is that even a word ;) ) Not only that I often dilute my juice with unflavored because I find the flavoring rudely strong.

I'm really happy with the results, no urge to smoke. I happy enough to have three more Russians on the way.

I'd say if you are undecided just do it. For me the difference between this and a Aspire Nautilus is at least an order of magnitude. I expect as the wattage goes up build details become more important. I am doing the wicks up the chimney and trim and I've had nothing but great results, no leaks, burnt hits, flooding, nada no problems. Just awesome vapor.

It's nice to know that should problems arise the experts here spare no effort i helping. :D
